Iwanagara apple blossom is a popular orchid here in Finland too. I know many people who have them, but I have never seen peach colored ones, only pink/white colored. The ones you got sound very, very interesting, and I would love to see updates on them. I hope you are keeping one for yourself after you sell them. Well, you probably will keep one (you sounded excited about them in the video). :) I would love to see what kind of blooms they will make (though it will still take some time). Thanks for making this video about the community pots. One reason why your channel is so interesting is that we get a rare opportunity to see how a greenhouse is run, and we can learn a lot from your advises. I love your taste in orchids, and you have a very impressive, diverse and interesting collection. If you have the time, would you consider making a video of you dividing one of those community pots, and of you potting a couple of those seedlings? Thanks, Wade!
Awesome! Great haul Wade a lot of great looking plants :) I'm very interested in some you've mentioned also my encyclia bractescens is doing awesome!!! I think it has like 10 or more growths. I hope it keeps doing well. Also the onc. Twinkle is doing great! Currently has 5 spikes maturing it's just taking awhile lol :))
+Rosanna Rodarte Hi Rosanna! I remember that bractescens very well! What a beautiful plant!! Also, I've noticed that Twinkle seems to take forever for the buds to open (maybe to teach us patience) but they will get there. I'm so glad you enjoy them!
Awesome haul!!! I see quite a few that I want, especially those dendrobiums! BTW the ones that I got from you around Labor day are doing great, I'm still tinkering with watering schedule, but luckily for me they're patient and very forgiving plants :)
+marian e Glad your plants are going well! The Kiwi bark that I use helps to prevent overwatering and is perfect for the Dendrobiums that like to be watered well and then dry fairly quickly. I'm very excited about this batch of compots! Like everything that I sell, they are plants that I want in my collection.
I was wondering what kind of media is that - I never saw kiwi bark irl, only in videos :) It's size is very appropriate for small-sized plants and seedlings, unlike the universal potting mix I usually buy at Lowes. So far I'm watering them every other day, both grown-ups and seedlings, just take them to the faucet and run some water for a min or so, then wait for it to drain up a bit and that's it. I'm not sure about fertilizer so I just spray some regular one on the leaves every 2-3 days of so.
+marian e We're moving into cooler and darker days so from about now till spring go light with whatever fertilizer you use (I don't fertilize at all from around mid November till mid January but Pennsylvania is very gloomy during that period). As far as watering, just be sure that the Dendrobiums, Cattleyas, and other true epiphytes cycle from wet to "almost dry" between watering.
oooo....I see a couple I want :) that looks like alot of work! but hopefully enjoyable work right? ;) my apple blossom is developing her buds. ..this will be her second bloom toys year and has another new growth half way mature. ..she grows like a beast! I love them! !
+April Arroyo Yes, it is enjoyable work. I have ALWAYS loved seeing small plants when they start to grow. And Apple Blossom is another one of those that puts out more than 1 growth a year. It is one of those Cattleyas that are great in so many ways.
If I can, I would pre-order a jungle elf, enc. cochleata, and bl yellow bird. No body fights with me in the jungle elf! I also think this should be the project plant next year, but only if I get it!
+Jackie Fu Jackie, you are a dear! I really appreciate that and I'm sure there will be plenty but I can't take pre-orders simply because if anything should happen I can't guarantee it. I actually suggested something like this for a project plant but several were against anything more than a year from blooming. If a group would like a project plant similar to this I could probably handle it though. I could probably offer them for about $5 + shipping. We could even do it with 2 crosses. I don't think that I could advance the topic because I could make a profit from it.
Hello wade! So I see you order some plants now my question is you sell them once they grow also? If so send me a link to your website I'll be very interested :) Thank you!
+Anna Vidaurri I started selling orchids this year. My offerings are and always will be limited due to space but I have gotten a very nice response. I don't use heat packs so I'll be closing soon for the winter. My web site is www.wadesorchids.com. I don't "push" my sales here because this site is about Orchids and how to grow them. Selling my plants is about that too though. My plants are always in good quality and the plants I choose are ones that I feel are very interesting and will improve collections. Thanks.
+Ellofez Potinara Hoku Gem 'Freckles' is probably the best of all of them. In addition to its wonderful flowers it blooms 3-4 times a year and seems to branch leads pretty well. I now have 2 plants in 6" pots and one of them is always blooming. Forgot to mention that the flowers last 4-6 weeks!
Hi Wade. I bought a community pot from HR at one of the shows here in Miami, last year. I didn't divide them, I kept them all together and put it on bark. I didn't know any better :(. They haven't bloomed. Do you think that is why they haven't bloomed? Should I divide them? My is a summer pot C. "Lulu". Any advice? Thanks.
+Charlie B (Bodhi's Mom) Usually it is at least 2-3 years for plants to bloom from a community pot. As far as dividing them now it depends on how difficult it would be to get back off the bark. It is partly up to you as to if you want them to be separate. The other factor is if they are grown onto the bark pretty well it may be difficult to get them off. I personally keep plants seperate from one another but again, they are your plants. Especially if they seem healthy you might want them to be all together.
love the collections. Can't wait to see it grow in their own pots. I do enjoy caring seedlings.
Some amazing plants there. I had a google tab on the go all through your video :)
