Any ESP32 based development board will do. I have a Sparkfun Thing. Espressif sells their own $20 board. I heard of another board on Amazon called HiLetgo ESP-WROOM-32 that is only $10. They all use the ESP32 processor. The second option is the micro:bit. The biggest difference to one of the ESP32 boards is that it doesn't have WiFi. The third option is the PyBoard, which was designed by the inventor of MicroPython. Looks like a high quality board, but a little more costly in the $50 range. Good knowledge and thanks for sharing. But atleast better up your delivery. There are parts where you pause on your phrases which seems as if you're unprepared. Just my opinion though.
Some good info but very unorganized, slow, monotone, boring. Write the script in advance, be more efficient because you are wasting everyone's time while you sloooowly figure out what you are going to say next.
learn javascript, js.node and database SQL. There are a lot of jobs in which require these three. you could work as a freelancer or full job as a front-end developer, back-end developer etc

Unfortunately I got to the part where I have to upload the binary to the ESP32 and I get an error and can't progress. I have looked everywhere and Im at a loss to solve it. Could you please give me a little bit help to get this completed if you can. The Upload commands I used. "esptool.py --chip esp32 --port /dev/tty.SLAB_USBtoUART --baud 460800 write_flash -z 0x1000 -/downloads /Users/graeme/Downloads/esp32-idf4-20191210-v1.11-633-gb310930db.bin" I get an error ." esptool write_flash: error: argument : Must be pairs of an address and the binary filename to write there" I have tried everything and I'm getting no where. Could you help please.

C or C++ produce much smaller programs when compiled so the amount of memory is a big factor.

Answering 3 years late: No. Not all microcontrollers can run micropython. For example I believe 8-bit AVRs such as those used by Arduinos cannot.

How about a basic esp8266 or even better esp32. The esp8266 is only around 2 bucks and the esp32 is about 4 bucks.
