Paul Jackson was a one off - true electric bass royalty. A marvellous analysis of his supremely creative playing on 3 different cuts. That must have taken lots of listening and subsequent transcription - not to mention the virtuoso technique required to pull it off. Bravo Jonathan.
Fantastic stuff. Have just got into Paul's amazing playing and it's great to see some analysis of his approach. You're clearly a very talented musician yourself so thanks for sharing this. I'd hesitate to say that Paul is underrated as most people who hear him seem to rate his playing very highly. It's just a pity that he's not better known!
I just subscribed and “liked” so glad I discovered you ! I recently discovered Paul Jackson also. And you’re in Oakland? Rocco Prestia area too? Must be something in the water….
If you like Paul Jackson, you should listen to his works with Char (a Japanese guitar player), too. Search these. Smoky by Psychedelix Char 20th Anniversary Live Paul's bass guitar is on fire on these.
I just bought Thrust. I played Watermelon Man & Chameleon on trumpet in jazz band. I decided to pick up some Herbie Hancock albums. Thrust is one of his funkiest thanks to Paul on bass.
Great job, sir... how about a little insight on the tone? So that's a Moollon you're playing with Super Bright Nickels.. 40-100? What pickups and DI are you using? You're going in flat? Any compression in there? Thanks!
Thanks! Glad you like the video. Yes, a Moollon P-Classic. Dunlop Super Bright Nickels, but I think they were 45-105. Stock Moollon pickup (replacing a Moollon pickup is rare, b/c that’s a big part of their special sauce). Going in flat. Signal chain (to the best of my memory) is Bass->Tube Tech MEC-1A->Orion Antelope->Logic. I probably put a dash of UAD LA-2A on it, too.
@@JonathanHerrera_Bass Great playing. PJ is/was so awesome. What EQ settings are you using if any and what compression settings are you using please sir :D

Mans killed it, such a helpful video. Hard not to notice the change in concentration when he plays flood at 125bpm. Paul Jackson is a legend

Nice work man! Which is your favourite version? The line to the live version (not Flood) sounds really cool. Im going to check it out now. Thank you
Hey! I love the Flood version; it’s so hip, w/ line coming in late in the bar.
RIP Paul Jackson 😪
Que modelo de bajo es? Y que modelo de pastilla usas? Tremendo!

Very tricky!
Noice, I play bass and I like Paul Jackson. He’s an awesome and amazing bass player. Other than that, cool:).
The flood version is top
This Pereira digs Herrera
