Saw him in the annual Morristown Orpheus Choir concert many years ago in a Welsh chapel and he was wonderful.....sang Donna non vidi mai and I've never forgotten it..... underrated!!!....
From the WNO production that toured in Autumn 1982 - I saw it at the Apollo Theatre in Oxford and it was indeed magnificent. A much more traditional and naturalistic production than that picture suggests.
Not English singers though; both were Welsh. I always felt they were badly underrated on the global opera scene, eclipsed by the snobbery which attaches to continental European-sounding names. They should have been more widely known. Wonderful singing and interpretations! The major recording companies of the day slipped up badly in neglecting them.
@@osscar29 yep my grandad was a proud Brummy, later naturalised Australian citizen but did love his time at WNO and enjoyed the many Welsh choirs he sang with i'm told.
