First Chinese principal dancer in NYC Ballet history hopes to inspire more Asian performers

Chun Wai Chan is the first Chinese principal dancer in New York City Ballet’s 74-year history. The 30-year-old who was born in China’s southern Guangdong province, says he still finds it “unbelievable” each time he hears his name announced as the US troupe’s top-ranked performer. Chan hopes his experience in one of the foremost dance companies in the world will inspire more Asians to pursue professional ballet careers. “Asian male dancers are definitely able to dance,” he said, “because I have been dancing forever.”

Now that's a powerful mindset that has gotten him to the pinnacle of his career. Gratitude, hard work and resilience.
because he is asian, they dont get discriminated like us black... if you think this apply to us, then your wrong cuz we cant reach the top because of our race we need to work 10000x harder just to get a little bit

Watching him, listening to his story puts tears in my eyes because as a chef, I totally understand the drive and the hard work that comes with doing something I truly love. I'm sooo happy for him.
I remember being able to perform in the same show as him when I was around 10yr/o and I've been a fan of his ever since. It's honestly so inspiring seeing Chun Wei grow and gain recognition as a Chinese dancer. He is such a talented, humble, and positive person. Keep being an inspiration to us all! :)

Some people are born to do certain things. Obviously, he is in dance. How many Asian families force their children to live in other people's image to pursue their parent's dreams. So glad he insisted on following his own destiny. What a talent! Bravo! You are inspiring!

I love what he said about not being able to change his race, but he could improve his skill so that there would no longer be an excuse to discriminate against him. I wish it wasn’t that way but it’s what usually makes minorities like us stronger and better than normal.
