    Congrats Ian. One thing that impressed me is that he achieved it all on not a top end bike. Just goes to show you don't need the best to be the best.

    Here in 2022. Ian's book Endless Perfect Circle is an excellent read as well.

    You gave a fantastic insight into your World Record achieving ride ‘Top To Bottom’ at The Heeley Institute in Sheffield.
    I didn’t get any sense of ego. I’m working towards riding from Sheffield to Cleethorpes and back in a day (approx 150 miles)
    I’ve a long way to go before I’ll be fit enough but You have inspired me to do this in 6 months time.
    You are a special kind of cyclist.
    Thank you

    Really inspiring interview. A massive congratulations. I stumbled across this video searching for the Whyte Wessex One, I’ve decided it will be my next bike. Please may I ask what your height is Ian and what size frame you chose. I’m 168.5cm and I’m torn between the 50 and 52 frame size. I also have short legs and a longer body I think so if the Wessex One fit you well that’s positive news for me. Thank you in advance for any reply.

    Inspirational ride Ian! Kudos. It was a hot start and colder finish, did most riders carry all their foul weather kit with them all the way from the start or ship it ahead and pick it up nearer to where it was needed?

    • @IanWalker1
      @IanWalker1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think people probably carried everything with them. I know I'd be reluctant to set out relying on finding specific items partway through. As well as anything else, you've no guarantee what time you'd hit a place. You might spot a great bike shop half-way round, and plan to buy a jacket (say), but then get there at 2200. I'd say better to be self-sufficient and handle it by getting lightweight kit!

    Which Aerobars did you use?

    How do you eat a massive family tub of yoghurt without stopping? That wasn't the food choice I was expecting!

    How did Ian get on with the wheelset? Were they stable in crosswinds?

    • @IanWalker1
      @IanWalker1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi! They were 50mm deep and completely fine right up until the last day. North Cape had properly crazy winds - I'd estimate it was blowing around 60 kph with gusts that were much stronger. In those conditions I did have to fight them a bit. But all the rest of the time I had no trouble. Having a little more weight over the front wheel from the aerobars, foodbag and water bottle seemed to help, interestingly. The front wheel feels slightly more skittish now I've taken those off again

      Conveniently, road.cc has reviewed them both so I can give links! The front was this: road.cc/content/review/221409-ravemen-pr1200-usb-rechargeable-dualens-front-light and the rear was this: road.cc/content/review/174603-seesense-icon-rear-light
