Armed Forces Day 2023

Members of the various armed services of the SANDF will parade through Richards Bay on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast today, with President Cyril Ramaphosa taking the salute on Armed Forces Day. Armed Forces Day was instituted in 2012 to honour the work of SANDF members in service of the country, and to commemorate those who have fallen in the line of duty.
These include over 600 South Africans who died on this day in 1917 when the troopship SS Mendi sank in the English Channel during the First World War. We now take you live to the wreath-laying ceremony which is taking place ahead of the parade.
