Someone asked who are we to give feedback on others perfromances if we are not musicians ourselves. This is a fair point. Dave just dropped a video for his band Tellers Scribe which he directed the video for. This is an unsigned band and the first song and video from the band but its only right that you can have an opinion on what he does, the same way as he has opinions on what others do. Check it out if you so wish. th-cam.com/video/sW1266_5pJI/w-d-xo.html
I really wish had way more music because I love the feeling I get from their music. VOB is an unbelievably amazing and talented band. And they're Muslim women covered head to toe!
Regarding the lyrics being a bit "on the nose": certainly, there's an element of in-your-face directness in VoB's (Marsya's?) lyrics. But after listening a few times and digging a little more, I realized that this earliest recordings of the song showed up on youtube around the time that the massacres of the Rohingya were stepping up and that "Mrs. Nobel" is probably a specific reference to Aung San Suu Kyi. This has made me wonder about what may be buried in the lyrics of some of the other songs. Marsya is a voracious reader and I suspect that if I were a bit more conscious of what informs her songwriting, I might see some of the layered complexity in her lyrics that we hear in the band's music. Regarding some of the songs that are very popular in VoB's home market: I've read the lyrics to some of their songs in translation and don't understand what's so interesting about them, but I see comments in Indonesian that rave about how great the lyrics are (at least this is what google translate tells me). I suspect I just don't have the context to appreciate the implications of what the words are saying (not yet, anyway)
I respect your position and for that i will leave your comment on the channel however i must state that i support peace only andnot one side or the other. I feel sorrow for lives lost on both sides of the conflict and condem anyone whom takes another human life.
President Joko Widodo's reaction to VOB lacked attention. Maybe because the lyrics of the VOB song have been criticized a lot. Even though VOB's criticism is general, President Joko Widodo doesn't like criticism. We know that President Joko Widodo really likes loud music
