I love these two. 😊😊 I love the vintage style, and I also love so much the immense amount of fascinating expertise that they share with the audience! Dr Colleen mentioned in another video the laws of ancient Egypt. I hope someday we'll see a video about that! 😁 Thank you so much for sharing! 🤗
I feel blessed. Your channel is literally the best thing happened this weird year.. Thank you for sharing the amazing information and for the 1920s aesthetics. Love you!!!
I like how they’re having a conversation and it’s like we’re included in it. Like we’re all having a conversation about whatever they’re discussing, it’s so fun and inclusive
Dr Darnell and Dr Darnell both inspire me on so many levels. While I am fascinated by and respect their enormous expertise, it is their approach to life in general that I really love. The immersion into the styles and fashions of one era, while delving into the study of yet another, is such a deliciously exuberant way to live fully.
You two are living my dream! Oh, to have been an archaeologist in Egypt in the 1920’s...it’s obviously a bit romanticized in my head, but you’re the physical embodiment of my ideal. Thank you so much for creating these videos for us! I eagerly await the next installment. Love, light, and blessings to you and yours.
all of these videos are superb, as a hugh fan of Egyptology the have me glued to the screen..... At last a useful purpose for TH-cam. please upload more... p.s. love the fashion..........
I discovered your channel via Michelle Coursey's "My Vintage Love: 1920's Makeup Tutorial." With the discovery of King Tutankhamun's Tomb approaching its centennial, I decide to begin reading up on Howard Carter and his discovery via historical fiction and biographies. My daughter, who is a history, major watches your channel as well. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
Thank you for taking time to share your knowledge and expertise. I've been a big fan of both of you when I discovered Dr. Colleen in an Egyptian documentary featuring the lost queens of Egypt. It means so much to me to be able to learn about this civilization because Egypt has always been so special and close to my heart. I am so grateful for what you do. It allows people like me, who can't afford an education in Egyptology, to study and learn at home while nurturing this curiosity to keep discovering. Thank you Dr. John and Dr. Colleen!
Hi i actually saw you in Racked before and i was frustrated that you didn't have a channel, then today i saw you in Rachel Masky's channel and she put the link to your channel, i couldn't click on it fast enough to watch. What a treat and thrill, i have always loved all things egyptian from Elizabeth Taylor to Agatha Christie's. love love love this and can't wait to see more.
I just discovered this couple because of another video about the movie “the mummy”. Automatically hook to these guys. Love their look. Her hair cut is amazing.
I have just one thing to point out - at around 1.30 when you talk about Hatshepsut's tomb, and John says its been excavated by Howard Carter, and Colleen says "Wow". That. That right there is not necessary. You know this, it is NOT a surprise to you :D
My nan and grandad took me and my cousin to Luxor when I was 16 (it's been 15 years), we went to the Valley of the Kings and Queens, learning that Life is on the East (sun rise) and Death is on the West (sun set), where the Valley is. Walking down into the tombs, and they're deep into the ground, stifling heat, but all you notice is the beautiful artwork that people have painted/carved, explaining how that person lived, and beautifully carved sarcophagus. We went to Luxor Temple, went on a hot air balloon at 4:30AM to watch the sun rise over the temples, I was absolutely shattered when I got home. Absolutely fascinating place, you see photos but until you actually see it face to face, the scale of tombs, statues, buildings, you literally don't realise how large they really are, like many other ancient cultures and all built by hand and all still standing. The saddest part, we have technology and machines, and everything now is so goddamn bland and breaks easily. I love ancient history, sod off to recent World Wars that we learn at school.
You guys are so fun and engaging! I love the Tutankhamen bit at the end. As a fan of Colleen's Instagram page, and also just from having a budding interest in Egyptology, I hope to see more from your channel!
I absolutely love these videos. It makes me feel like I’m an egyptologist in the hay days of the 1920’s. I do listen to music from the 1920’s and dream that I’m in Egypt.
I love that you don't talk down to us mere mortals. It's so rare now to find online and TH-cam videos that don't talk down or are over simplified and give complete information in an interesting way. This is such an interesting subject
Thank you, Doctors Darnell. Great video. Love the photographs depicting how the area looked a century and more gone by now. What a time of discovery that must have been. As always, the History is so fascinating. My best to you and yours. Take care. Stay safe. Looking forward to your next.

You could not ask for a more thorough and compelling explanation of Ancient Egypt. The Darnells are the gold standard in academia, but also have the gift of making the material understandable to those who are novices to the subject.
I am so grateful that you both exist! So fashionable and insanely knowledgeable. My brain can’t handle it and I’m totally ok with that. Much love and appreciation ❤️
What an absolutely exquisite home! I can imagine a glass of red, some cellists playing the corner and the walls and shelves filled to the brim of beautiful ornate statues and bookshelves full of ancient texts kept in pristine condition. Thank you so much for this channel! ♥️
I would happily sit with a whiskey sour and listen for hours. Incredibly intelligent conversation and absolutely engaging personalities. Thank you so much for this channel

I was so excited to find this channel, being obsessed with the 1920s and Ancient Egypt even more. I even named my daughter Merit, after the character in Mika Waltari‘s book, The Egyptian. Enjoyed this video very much, thank you!
I am loving these videos so much. I've had an obsession with Egyptology since I was 7 and first learnt about Ancient Egypt, and have wanted to be an archaeologist for even longer (a dream that unfortunately will never be fulfilled). So these videos are giving me life. They're incredibly interesting, and the conversational way that you present the information makes it really easy to understand, and even easier to be drawn into the video. It's like we were in a room together, just casually talking about ancient history. I also really like when you pull out maps and images to show us and make sure we know exactly what/where you're referencing. Just, your videos are so cool and interesting and I'm so happy they exist. 7-year-old me is so jealous of current me for having resources like this. Thanks a million
Thanks for the information. I think your home is beautiful. I was enthralled by Egyptian History after seeing the Tutankhamun Exhibition and reading both Dr Hawass and Howard Carter books. Also Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody Mysteries.
Thank you so much for sharing and teaching us in such a pleasing to watch and interesting way. Can't wait for more. I also love the interaction and obvious respect shown between you both. Nobody talks over the other and each is given equal space to share their knowledge.
Full of my conceit, I thought, "I do not need another introduction to the VofK. What can they possibly say that hasn't been said a thousand times. But, I like them, so, I'll listen." Then you began to explain what I had never comprehended clearly - though I thought I had - and finish with Tut in a soup bowl! Again, you are amazing and this was delightful.
Found this channel today, I truly admire your knowledge. I love everything about Egypt, and your explaining is so clear and entertaining, simply amazing. Cheers from Argentina! Looking forward to more videos.
