    This video is a full review of the amazing free vst synth called Triple Cheese by u-he. This software synth has been around for quite a long time but has recently had significant updates that make it much more user friendly. This was my first time seriously diving into the plugin and hearing how it sounds, learning how it functions, and trying to create my own custom patch from scratch. I also applied a bunch of new video editing techniques in this video to try to improve the video production quality.
    Please let me know what you think of the video and what I can improve in future videos. I really appreciate any feedback and engagement!

    Mad how the GUI of a plugin can completely put you off or invite you in to use it. So so glad they updated it to look like an actual useable instrument instead of that mess it was before

      Very well said! There are many other plug-ins out there that look pretty but don't perform well. U-he plugins definitely have the sound quality and usability to pair well with a great looking GUI.

    Great video and cool plugin, but I kept getting distracted by the chords you use - absolutely beautiful!

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Thank you! I really appreciate that haha. I often start with simple major and minor chords and then edit the midi to add different voicings.
      Like taking a CMaj chord and adding notes to make it a CMaj7/9/13. You can get some beautiful jazz chord sounds. Admittedly I'm not much of a keyboard player so I'll draw in the notes or use a midi chord triggering program like Scaler 2 or Ripchord (which is free and awesome. Also packed with tons of chords.)
      To add movement to the tracks I'll usually have an instrument playing the block chords and then have another instrument arpeggiating the same chords to create a perfect melody on top!

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It definitely a weird synth but sounds so good haha. I went back recently and was pretty surprised by how nice the sound was. Having filters would be a nice addition to it but it still has a really nice sound to it. Maybe a little bit more of a learning curve for someone more familiar with subtractive synthesis.

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I appreciate that. I definitely feel that music should come from the soul and have convey emotions. At the same time there also needs to be a technical side of this for listenability and competitiveness. Maybe it's about a healthy balance of both.

    Hey .. I really loved the video .. Just wanted to ask how good is it with the cpu .. is this synth cpu friendly ?
    I'm on a device with 16GB ram

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you so much :) from my experience Triple Cheese isn't too hard on the CPU. I have an older computer and I had no trouble using around 10 instances of the synth on the demo projects for the song with low latency setting in my DAW.
      To my understanding your ram is going to be more impacted by how many total plug-ins you're using in your project rather than how CPU intensive the plug-in is. 16GB of ram is going to be perfect for having tons of plugins on your project. I rarely exceed using 10gb of ram on large projects.
      With that said tho using tons of instances of a high quality synth will begin to put heavy load on your CPU. U-he Diva is one of the more CPU intensive plugins I use but Triple Cheese wasn't even close to that in terms of CPU usage. Hope that helps!

      @matthewbcarter Maybe I should. But first I will test few other synths like Odin. I already found Apricot. Now I am looking for nice sounding synth for more experimental sounds. Preferably with unison and more than one oscilator and ability to draw waves and variety of filters. I know I am asking for too much. I have Massive. I want Massive but with different oscilators 🙂🙂🙂

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Odin is fantastic! If you're not already using them I'd recommend Matt Tytel Vital (Basically a Serum clone) as well as Surge XT. Surge XT can do some wild stuff if you really dive into it. @@aspirativemusicproduction2135

      @matthewbcarter I sure will. I just got to my desktop from making music with FLM and I am trying to figure out what other sounds I can make with synths other than the four synths I was using in the mobile version. I need workhorses. Already found Apricot for most common sounds. Now I am looking for the next one which can do more. I consider the synths you mentioned. My research leads me to exactly the same synths. 🙂

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nice! I wish you the best on your music production work going forward. It's probably the best time ever to be getting into desktop DAW production work.
      If you're starting off with only a few synth and need some workhorse options here's what I would recommend.
      Invader 2 ($5) - very convincing warm analog synth pads and leads. Probably best for synthwave and retro genres.
      Newfangled Pendulate (Free) - for weird textural sounds. the is definitely an odd one but very unique evolving sounds.
      Arturia Analog Lab Play (Free) - high quality presets for trap, hip hop and electronic music.
      Plogue Sforzando (Free) - This is an audio library engine more oriented for real instrument libraries like Piano, Rhodes, String, can also load soundfonts for video game music.
      Spitfire Labs (Free) - More oriented for cinematic productions but has the best free strings, pianos, guitars, atmos, pads. Theres like 25 instruments to choose from.
      Decent Sampler (Free) - library engine also more for orchestral and cinematic/film style composing and can load an absolute ton of libraries from pianobook.co.uk
      Hope this saves you a bit of time searching. I wish I had discovered many of these earlier.

    Nice update. I noticed that the vst had arp and rythm presets, yet you did not show an arpeggiator. How does that work?

    • @matthewbcarter
      @matthewbcarter  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Sorry I should have mentioned that. The vst doesn't have a built in arpeggiator.
      I was using Logic Pro's built in arpeggiator to demonstrate some of the presets that worked well arpeggiated.
      I just chose some of the shorter plucked and keys presets from different categories to show what sounds you could achieve if you arpeggiated them.
