Great demonstration, Jeff! As it happens, I also have a Reed scion in the fridge that I got a couple of months ago, but didn’t get time to graft it. I might have a go while we have some warm weather 👍. I hope yours takes, can’t wait to see how it does.
You’ve done quite a few videos on grafting to root stock. It would be nice to see a new video on top working an avocado or other tree. Have you ever tried growing Duke avocado? Given its lineage, it should be a great fit for our hot summers. I’m waiting for Duke to come back into stock at Planting Justice. I’m considering getting the Uvalde Texas varieties, too.
Now all the rubber bands in the house have a real purpose. Hey Jeff have you tried using saran wrap to graft with? I would think just cut like an inch off the end of the roll and you’d have lots of tape to do your grafting.
I really enjoy your videos. I live in NY and have a potted Gem avocado plant. I was thinking of grafting a Fuerte scion on it so that I will have an A and B on the same plant. Is it worth it with Gem? I don't have space for another avocado plant.
Great videos! I planted a Jim Bacon tree earlier this year, it's 2 1/2 feet tall and hanging in there from all the 110 degree days . What is the best variety to graft on my tree for best pollination and fruit production? I also live in Central California (Livingston Ca).
Does the budwood have to come from a specific place? I just bought a grafted fuerte tree that is in a 5 gallon container. Can I cut off a piece and use that to graft onto a new seed?
If this graft turns out to be successful, I’d be doing a follow up video, so make sure to subscribe to get my latest updates!
Have a wonderful Day!
very profesional there mate but watch the rubber they rot in the heat . all the best terry .👍
Yea I know they rot, by then the graft should have taken
Great share thank you and your Camera Lady
👍😎
I’ll have to try the rubber band tip. Thanks Jeff
Thanks Jeff always appreciate your demonstrations for complete beginners like me, I'm delighted I had even one graft succeed for me 🎉
Easy peasy!
Thanks Jeff. I live in San Jose and have a small avocado grove. I’m ready to start grafting!
Excellent! Keep us informed on how that goes!
Thanks Jeff. Very useful information.
You are welcome!
Another informative video! And right in time, too. I was just thinking of taking a cutting from a friend's avocado tree.
👍🌴😎🌴
Thanks for sharing Jeff!
Welcome Greg!

🤞
Fascinating! I may try some grafting in the future.
Happy growing 😎
Darn. I would have been happy to bring you more budwood.
No worries.
I wanted to see how long budwood would do in storage.

I would see how well the parent plant does indoors b4 grafting

Yes
Great video! Jeff I’m just starting out with grafting and your videos are really helpful! Do you have any extra budwoods? Keep the videos coming!
Soon
Can’t wait - would love to get some for grafting! 😊
how long does the parafilm stay on ? lower part ? upper part ?
It eventually falls off by itself
When you said you would know in about 9 or 14 days at the graft would take, what are you looking for exactly?
Buds pushing through the grafting tape
so basically the avocado type that you will get would the one you kept in the refrigerator. Is that correct?
I don’t understand the question
when the avocado start bearing fruit, what type of avocado will produce? the one from seed or crafted the top part that you added
Hello my male is Art and wanted to know if I could buy or trade a few cuttings of avocado and mango. I stay in Visalia ca .
Sorry but I don’t sell stuff
6 months!? Is that going to work? Fresh is best right?
Yup
Thats some old scions jeff , its a shame no one has fresh Reeds close by.
I wanted to see how well old budwood would graft.
I think it’s a 50/50 that it will take
@@TropicalGardenGuy ya I would say 50/50 that's still a good chance , if not heavy bacteria in plant tissue it has a chance.
If it does take after fridge for 6 months you'll set the world's record
