    Hey Stan hope all is well, just watched your tutorial on step and walling, you can actually get away with losing the last line of blocks on every step, it won't be detrimental to the lasting strength of structure but will save you materials. Basically make a pyramid at the back. I trust just about evert hinges you say, but trust me on this one. Still e joy watching your vids, great guy. Keep up sharing the knowledge dude.

    Up here in Canada it's also referred to as 3/4 crush stone and I did a walk way path using 1/4 crush lime stone with 18" x 18" patio blocks 12 years ago or more and it's held up great

    • @landonlandon5533
      @landonlandon5533 ปีที่แล้ว

      I mistakenly used crushed lime. It's never supposed to be used with pavers or flag stone. It holds water like a sponge. I am a hardscaper showed me why not too.

Once again I appreciate all the information I wish I could talk a little more common with you. Knowing you're busy man but I have random questions at random moments. But your videos are huge help I'm kind of blessed I have TH-cam for my business sounds funny. 5 in the morning I'm watching bricklaying I need to get a life lol....

    I have used Anchor Diamond Split Face for many walls, not as many square feet as you but I am planning a wall right now that I am going to do Versa-Lock Standard - Weathered. The one thing I like to do that it seems you can't with Versa-Lok is curve the wall into my stairs rather than square. It lets me start at the bottom say 112" and loose a 1/2 or full block per a step to finish my last step at 42"-48" for a walkway.
    fantastic video

    Also if they key in the back inside block from column into wall by cutting the back off the last block before the column you can put half of the rear block inside to tie in, and it will still keep the pattern on the column.

    Coming from a concrete guys standpoint,,, I always pour a rebar reinforced conc. "Rat case" which is just a primative concrete stepped footing to fit finished blocks on top of...way strong (can also pour it on top of sonotube piers down to virgin ground if need be.) -not only much cheaper but with the quickness as well. I also love to useing versa-Lok blocks...i believe thier the industry leaders so, as far as saving some money on extra expensive blocks i mix up some mud and rough it all in-most of the time ill also pour a 4" thickX16"wide footing with two continuous 3/8 or 1/2" overlapped rebars the entire length of the wall runs.(*especially of your material is wet or compromised in any way this will bridge soft spots...this will have an-almost structurally geo grid-ick type of effect on the walls lengths bridging and, supporting the blocks to the left or, right next to such suspect spots), Its way quicker for me and I don't have to fuss with setting each individual block.(like Stan said this usually takes more time than the rest of your builds and,, he is right!) This gives me the opportunity to come in in the morning nice and fresh and amped up to just run them out the next day...
    One more 'Quick Tip..after your concrete is all floated off nice and neat like you can spend the latter part of the day moving full blocks walking the footings so thier within arms reach to set them down right into place. Can also make up some corner and known needed course cuts that you will need to fly thru your project with ease nd smoothness! Happy building guys! And thanks for the vids D.M & Versa-Lok!

    one thing I am not sure of is if it is necessary (or even possible) to pin the pyramid of steps as you build up? Are they aligned to pin or does this alignment of the step prevent pin installation. Great video, very thorough.

    Stan, is there ever a situation where a concrete footer is poured for a retaining wall of steps etc?

    Dead blows transfer all the energy of the swing. Where the rubber mallet uses some of the starting energy to fly backwards. So you do more work.
