In my career I was laid off 3 times,1st time after 18 years with the company, even tho I got a good severance package ,it was still tough being retrenched for the very 1st time. I got another job within a month n after 2 years , laid off again. got another job in 3 weeks as an IT manager n laid off after 12 years ,received a very good severance package n then I went on contract for 4 years n decided not to renew the yearly contract n quit working in 2016. My advice, make sure u hv friends that u can network with, they r the people who knows your skill sets n work ethics n will recommend u once they know any company that is hiring,that’s why I got my jobs rather quickly n I helped a friend who was laid off got a job too,he is still working in the company. Networking n keep your skill relevant.
I expect nothing from companies. I expect myself to be dispensible. I expect myself to manage my family life and work life because no one will do it for me.
Best solution is a reasonable compensation for worker to tackle retrenchment period for him to settle and find ways for them ....nobody will complain if a compensation is given
When one got the news or being layed off .. mind will be worried n stressed already..loans n debts need to be tackle ...how to relax and have time to upgrade offer from company? By the time you taking course company already got a cheaper worker ..hahaha
Just as how tech such as Uber and Grab has impacted the transport industry in Singapore, I am looking forward to how AI and self-autonomous vehicles will drive the bus and taxi drivers out of jobs soon in the near future. It is ridiculous of the government to incentivize companies to do so when they come out with the Progressive Wage Model that increases a company’s labour costs to pay fair wages for low skilled jobs that is not in line with its market value. On the other hand, self-autonomous vehicles can help to complement the lack of manpower due to an aging population and the government’s refusal to rely on foreign manpower.
Since the opposition party members keep bitching about the past reserves, the govt can consider giving each one of them a million dollars so that they can live like kings and queens.😂😂
