This is absolutely beautiful 🤍 her eyes are so full of life and feeling. And my eye was immediately drawn to that ear, i think one of the gifts that watercolour artist has is recognising when the paint does that unplanned special "thing" . Im not there yet😄
Thank you! Yes you have to let it alone and sometimes a special magic happens that is beyond your control and it takes restraint to trust and let it happen. I don't trust as much as I wish I did!
Love, love, love this!! Thinking seriously of becoming one of your Patreon. I have followed you for many years and would love to learn some of your tips and techniques. Thank you so much for sharing❤️
Fantastic work. Thanks. This is going to help me to paint a dark brown cat which is not backlit in the ref pic, but my client would like sunflowers behind. It will stop it tooling like a cardboard cut out. 👍
Hi Rachel I am having trouble finding this tutorial on Patreon. I have found other black cat tutorials, but I really like the way you captured the fur along the outside edges, as I have an image of my long hairs black cat, who looks almost the same, with the white around the edges. Thanks!
I have watched many videos and I have just discovered you. My speciality is portrait and animals , thinking of joining and learning your tips and techniques ❤️
This might sound silly. I’m brand new to watercolour or any art really. How are you painting over but the whiskers still show up? Is it a special kind of paint?
Not silly at all! I paint masking for the whiskers before I start the painting, let it dry, then paint over it until the painting is done. Then I peel off the masking and then I have perfect white (from the protected paper) whiskers. Do you know what masking is? I have a video about it here... th-cam.com/video/CR4wIeOvIhU/w-d-xo.html
Stunning.

It's a pleasure and thank you for taking the time to comment!
