How do you record your jams? I’m looking for something now so I can start sharing songs I’ve been making!

Great question! In general I arrange and compose everything on the gear you see here with the deluge as my main sequencer and arranger. I’m running everything into a tascam model 12 which I primarily use as live mixer and interface/input for my DAW (I use logic.) you could even record live/mix/master right into the tascam especially if you’re content with the mix coming out of the deluge.
I tend to record what I play into my DAW to capture the live performance on the analog stuff and have it come in as separate tracks with the deluge stuff coming in as a stereo track. Because I arrange everything on the Deluge, I then go back and individually track all those elements in as separate tracks as well. Then we do final mix/master in Logic Pro (or whatever DAW you use)
But like I said, with the tascam model 12, you could do it all onboard and completely DAW-less as well.

@@oaklandghosts0510 thank you for that detailed response! I actually was looking at smaller tascam models as I like the idea of doing everything outside the computer, but seems like there are some benefits to doing things on a DAW with ableton or something along those lines. What would you recommend for my first go at things?

@@oaklandghosts0510 was also looking at the zoom r12 as well!

@@devinwells9399I really like working DAWless when I’m writing and arranging too. I do everything DAWless on my end except finaling. The benefit of going into my DAW at the end stage is 1: having way better plugins but 2: as a band all my band mates are DAW based so getting it into logic and our cloud server for everyone else to be synced and able to add is huge.
The main thing that drew me to the tascam line was its ability to pull double duty there. I could use it for me as a live mixer/recorder but also as an interface/input for my DAW.
The one thing I’d suggest is definitely get a mixer with more inputs than you need to future proof. When I got the model 12, I was only using the Sound Studio and the Deluge (so one stereo input/2 tracks and 3 mono tracks) I thought I was input wealthy with 12 inputs then, but as I’ve added more gear I’m already getting close to capacity.
If you use something like pedals for external effects, definitely look for something with dedicated aux sends (and preferably aux returns) the model 12 has sends, which it great, but no return.. so if I need to use one of my normal tracks for mono return and 2 for a stereo return. I use the empress zoia as my main fx on the analog gear so I have to dedicate two of my tracks as a return which is kind of a bummer.
All in all I’m really happy with the model 12. Very versatile, had the most amount of DAW inputs at that price point, looks great, and totally suits my needs (and *mostly future proofed if I can quit buying more gear lol)
