That's premium public course which is equal to semi private golf course quality. Try film him with the average public course which is got a lot of unrepaired pitch marks😅
I feel like most pros play on courses that most of us play once if we are lucky, most of us play bumpy not well maintained greens , longer grass in fairways no second cuts on fairways or around the greens and no run up to greens .
“10 mile an hour wind, adjusts to 120 but it’s 53 degrees, so we’ll bring it back to 117, but the slope is 9 degrees, so let’s bump it back to 123 yards” 😳😳. Cmon.
Right lol. Too many factors to account for meaningfully. Yardage and wind is all that really needs to be accounted for. Maybe temp in extreme situations.
@@TheDoozie43 not really. in a tournament setting a caddie takes care of most of these but they definitely matter. at the tour pro level, every single advantage you can get means something. Hitting it 2 feet closer from even 150 yards over the course of a season means slowly gaining strokes compared to other players on average. These small advantages accumlate in rounds to be a shot or two on average, which sometimes is the entire difference between decent pro and a solid one.
Watching vids like this just confirms what I’ve been saying for decades… That public courses are actually more difficult than perfectly manicured & kept pro courses. Every time I’ve e played with pros on public courses, they have difficult times like this. But on their home courses or tour courses, they smash it with relative ease. I’m no pro, but I was taught by my dad (a pro) and have played with the big names, I have been playing for 40+ years, and when I play tour courses I shoot the best scores of my life and play consistently. And yet there’s a 6600yd public mountain course (and a few other publics) which just torture us.
Yeah I’m not to sure about that, years ago I played a tournament at our local muni. The college kid that won it shot 61 on the first day and several shots under par the next two days but yet he couldn’t even make it on the mini tours.
@@Matthew-yj1nd you saw one anecdotal example of some kid, and that means every single other pro on the planet could destroy a muni course? FFS... you were homeschooled weren't ya.
@@Matthew-yj1nd Wow, you have a few anecdotal examples (whyich literally means nothing)... and you STILL genuinely believe that actually means anything in real-time. Yeah, that's more than enough reason to CORRECT & EDUCATE YOU... or as you call it, "be a jack a**". FFS man, do you just love illustrating just how disconnected from reality you are? Or is it something you're just genetically programmed to do?
Fascinating to see the thought process that goes into each shot. The course looks great. It looks like the greens may have been aerated recently so that would explain the bumpiness.
The difference between a pro and an average golfer can be summed up at the teebox on #2. If you don't use an app that makes all those calculations for you, you're just shooting the flag and hitting and blaming a swing flaw or something else. There are a ton of shots in a round that are up for grabs if you can learn to make good assessments of the situation (and commit like he said he failed to do even though the numbers were spot on).
Great content! Amazing to watch a Pro’s process. Shows the difference in their mindsets. I’ve never rooted so much for Pro golfer to shoot under par on country club course. 😂
Great video, great golfer with a perfect attitude towards the game. Not everybody can swing like him but being a little more positive is possible for all of us. Thanks for shooting the video, it was a great watch
I went to school with a kid who ended up on the Hogan Tour (Korn Ferry) in the late eighties. We would play Prado golf course in Chino Ca. He would shoot 65 66.
Come play Cainhoewood in Bedfordshire in the UK on a windy wet November day where the light rough is up to your knees and a drive into the wind is at least 100 yards shorter than it is in mid Summer and the bunkers are concrete and rocks... and we will judge from there
Amazing vid boys! Always love your stuff. I'll be checking out more now that the weather is decent up here in NY and I've got the itch to play again. Keep up the great quality content, as always 🙌🏼
Lol treating the game like it's supposed to be easier than someway. The course looked at least 3 stars 🌟 pretty nice. Good to hear your approach analysis
That's a very nice public course, and plays tough too.. Even though he knows he would and should normally shoot 5 plus under the wind was making it play tougher.. He probably actually shot around what the slope rating is that course looks really hard for a public
Right? For us our biggest Takeaway is how he goes about approaching his game. The guy plays on tour we all know he’s very good but yes, he did struggle that day and it’s great to see why.
James is thinking about lie, wind and shot shape and I'm thinking about my swing mechanics. That's the difference. My best round was just me playing the course with no swing thoughts.
This is a well above average difficulty course with some wind. A 135 slope (average is supposed to be 113) indicates a fair amount of trouble that would intimidate and cause trouble for most golfers. Add in some significant wind and this was no pushover test. I would call this is a B- performance for a tour pro considering no course knowledge to start with. He took it all very well in stride. Cheers.
You should show the scorecard and the slope and rating for the course before starting. This course for anyone else wondering is a 70.0/133 par 71 from the Blue tees.
heres the thing about golf...doesnt matter wat course u are on..yes some are easier than others but u still gotta make the shots..doesnt matter what course ur on if ur not hitting the ball well then ur not gonna score
People who never shoot in the 60’s don’t realize how difficult it actually is. It looks easy on TV when you see the best guys in the world playing their best golf. When I do shoot 60’s whether 69 or 65 I am quite satisfied. To come on here and expect to do it would have been very difficult for this guy.
Damn my dude even knows the yardage calculation for temperature difference. I mean, I've thought about how the ball goes further in warm weather but damn. That's what makes a pro a pro. The attention to detail and consistency is on point.
At some point after discovering he did not bring sharp ball striking to the round, I thought he would begin to play the course instead of playing to numbers. Obviously not a binary choice, simply a change in focus. In this round he was both caddy and player. Too much intellectual activity to respond athletically to conditions like the stud he clearly is given his success in Tour events. He was gracious to share his caddy’s process but limited his score from the start. He has earned a new fan!
More with James Please!! First off, he has a great golf attitude. This is great content to see what elite players think around a course. Thanks for posting this.
James was great in this video. The way he was talking through the shots and process was fun. Shots didn’t drop/roll like he wanted, but that’s golf! Looking forward to the next one!
The Bryson video was awesome! I already follow him. When I was alerted to the video drop I went right to it. I could not believe that President Trump could play so well! He hits the ball and putts so pure. It's a great video to watch! I was hoping they would hit 49! I'm so glad that President Trump was able to take time out of his busy schedule to do this. Definitely a first for TH-cam golf!
I keep waiting for a pro to come along and say, "Hey, I'm going to try the old Nicklaus/Snead/Watson style heel lift." Today's pro are all so totally foot planted.
For the last upmpteen years we have had a 'Pro-Am' at our municipal golf course in Taunton, Somerset, and although the 'Pro's' are not Tour Pro's, the majority of PGA Professionals who all play off scratch regularly fail to master the course.... go figure.
This may be a "public course" but it isn't in the price range of the average golfer. Would love to see this dude (that I've never heard of) play a round at MY public course in Wendell, NC. It's only about $25 a round w/ cart. Courses of this caliber are at the very least $75 a round, and most likely closer to $100 or more.
On hole 10 the difference between him and 90% of "regular" golfers. Half of us decide to try the miracle shot and end up OB. Then, of the 50% that do lay up, 30% of us chuck the ball and end up in the rough still.🤣
Harrison Meadows is “public” in the sense that anyone who has the money can join the club. You can’t just book a tee time there whenever you feel like it. It’s about $5000 a year for residents of Harrison and 10k for non residents… I really wish you went to any of the true Westchester muni courses though like Maple Moore or Saxon Woods… You could’ve even settled for Hudson Hills which is the most “difficult” muni course we offer in the county. Cool video regardless though.
Who should we film this with next? 👇🏻

Scottie Scheffler . Tour pro lol
