Jack is a young boy who is often isolated and alone. He struggles in the wake of his mother's death. He also is bullied by his sister, who subjects him to twisted games of surprisingly menace.
He struggles with the emptiness, tension and cruelty of his world, often taking refuge in the woods near his home and nursing the memories of his deceased mother. But after one game too many, eventually Jack asserts himself against his sister, leveling the same coiled threat against her that was used against him.
Writer-director Joy Webster's taut, suspenseful family drama traces the arc of an isolated, troubled young boy, as he attempts to grapple with his grief and find a sense of control and power in his often lonely world.
The pared-down shooting style and dialogue emphasizes the paucity of guidance, warmth and nurturing in this family, emphasizing the emptiness and neglect of the world around Jack. But despite the seeming minimalism of the craft, the almost offhand, unobtrusive visual approach is actually quite meticulous, especially in capturing the undercurrents of emotions in the young boy.
The one adult figure of the narrative is often rendered as a visually marginal element, with his head cropped out of frame or a mere figure filling in a wider shot. Yet the absent dad's presence speaks volumes, especially since he takes his daughter shooting, and she learns to associate guns with pleasure, power, dominance and control -- and finds ways to play with them when she and Jack are left on their own.
With such an intimate focus on the experience of the brother and sister, the performances of the young actors at the center become key. Both actor Jack Fulton as the oppressed little brother and actress Ava Preston as the often malevolent sister offer subtle yet explosive performances of remarkable and affecting precision.
Like the filmmaking itself, their characterizations are on the understated side, but both are allowed moments of dimensionality, where viewers can glimpse the resentment seething in Jack, especially when he is pushed by his sister's bullying to retaliate in a dark, foreboding way. Her own vulnerable, fearful reaction to the turning of the tables emphasizes that she's not just an antagonist -- she, too, is also just a child in this background of sadness and neglect, making the tragedy of this family all the more achingly devastating.
GAME is a finely honed and crafted drama, whose quietness in tone, approach and performance belies its powerful impact. Through an almost forensic sense of emotional intelligence and an intimate, compassionate focus on character and feeling, it offers keen insight into how the roots of violence plant themselves in emotionally barren or psychologically toxic families and individuals -- and how they take hold and explode in ways that are distressing, and portend darkly for the future. - ภาพยนตร์และแอนิเมชัน

This some really good acting for kids. Usually when kids act in movies it never looks this good even if the movie is professionally produced for cinemas
not completely disagreeing...but there was not really much to substantiate on. If there was a significant amount of dialogue, then I would reconsider.

I relate so much to this short to the point that its hard to watch. My dad died when I was 7 and my mom became preoccupied with keeping us with a roof over our heads she didn't see that my sister was abusing me verbally and physically

OMG. As a fine artist, I can understand how a whole range of emotions can be felt by just looking at a piece of art.. but when a short film is done like this with such perfection, it is mind-blowing. This was so well done. so exquisitely painful to watch. Why have more people not seen this? Please don't ever stop showing these beautiful short films.
The daughter was misguided by the violence of her own father.. and I think she was hurting too. She didn't intentionally kill that bird. She was wreck less with the box but I think once she realized it represented her own momma then it hit her what she had done. She had tears before she even saw that gun. It's sad how violence manifests in childhood. It even got to the sweet empathetic little boy. He just couldn't take it anymore. Neither of them could. I felt very sad for them both. What a near perfectly acted short film. 🌹♥
The bird was already death when the boy first picked it up. You can, by the way, clearly see it's a stuffed one. Bird that suffer from window blow, are loose, not stif. Their heads hang down. It was clearly not alive.
The bird you see alive at 10.15 is a sparrow. The bird the boy picks up at the beginning is a trush. But nice movie though.

He is far from the right mind state due to the loss of his mother and all he has been putting with. The rage bleeding from his face...you bet he was going to pull that trigger if she didn't give that box back and apologize.
She realized how cruel she'd been, how much she'd pushed him over the edge. It literally took him going crazy like that for her to realize it. Would he have pulled that trigger? I doubt it. He showed us earlier that he was unwilling to act out violent fantasies. Holding that heavy stick, he wanted to beat that older boy but overcame that impulse and just swallowed his rage.

Yeah I think when he first put it in there, it was just stunned/knocked out, then she found it alive and up again, but when they were chasing each other over it, it might’ve died from stress or being weak :(

Well I would never have rode off in my bike leaving my younger brother alone moreover when my so called friends would try to bully him, it would be the very last day they would ever think of something like this. The compassion in the face of the young girl to try to help but that confusion in her head of what to do and that fear that if she stands up she will be proved less stronger than her mates is the real thing I actually felt being a elder sister to my brother.
