The Invincible: Is It A Must-Play Sci-Fi Game? Our Brutally Honest Review

  • The Invincible is an interesting, albeit short, story-driven science fiction game. You take control of Yasna, a young biologist who's tasked with saving her missing crew and uncovering the secrets of a strange and alien planet. Starward Industries creates some genuinely intriguing moments throughout the game, but I don't think The Invincible will be for everyone. Codiak shares his brutally honest review and what players can expect when they play the game.

    I still read the occasional 1950s & 1960s hard sci-fi and I really love the ‘atompunk’ retro futurism aesthetic.
    I’m working my way through three games at the moment, but this title will be on my PC by 2024, I’m sure.

    Walking simulator was a derogatory name given to story driven narratives, personally I prefer the term 'relax-em-up'. My favourite to date has been 'everybody's gone to the rapture', which is basically a stroll around a beautiful deserted English village, exploring inside the deserted homes and pubs while the story of what happened there unfolds accompanied by some beautiful calming music, the album of which went straight to the top of the classical album charts and made the snobs change the rules so game music couldn't do that again.

    • @aserta
      @aserta 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It was a derogatory name for the first few months of use, and honestly only one or two reviews who really were in over their head when the first few games came around. The writers were absolutely clueless as to the notion that maybe games aren't supposed to be 100% choice driven and that there's more than one way to skin a cat. As is, this game has plenty of choice. You can really screw up the pooch here. The studio is NOT afraid to let you do it either.

    I grew up reading Lem's work. For me, even as derivative content, it's an amazing little insight into the world of SciFi. I wish they'd do Solaris as well. Solaris has always been railed over by bad films and it's a shame, because it's an amazing pocket story.

    Thanks, as a wanna be unreal/blender developer designer. I always wondered if there was a market for games you can just walk around, explore, without to much game element. A VR Meditation type stroll throgh new bizare worlds you can simply walk around and interact with for fun. I think the market for more non gamers will become more prevelant as VR becomes more common.

      So and what you were expecting from this type of the game and scenario? Driving a racing car or a massive war with grey aliens? It's a nice made if not beautiful one for it's own game. Graphically and some planet details are just perfectly fitted there.
