Spot on about Django. Been a fan forever, but only discovered his last recording "The Last Studio Sessions" 6 years ago and had my mind blown. The electric playing and bebop lines he's playing stand the test of time. Such a pity that he didn't live to further explore what he was doing on this lp.
Oh absolutely!.. he was clearly heading in a much more "modern" direction at the end there, much more angular in his playing and exploring those more bebop sounds. Lot's of 13b9 and 7#11 tonalities being sprinkled around in his playing at that point.
Great tune, Alex! The chords in that first V-I match those I use for an arrangement of Stompin' at the Savoy ("Saaa---Voy"). They are indeed very sweet.
And, as usual, not only a great tune, but a great lesson filled with tricks, tips, and references. (I especially appreciate the reference to George Harrison's perferred voicing of the 6-9 chords which I have long wondered about and never knew, and to the many obscure Django tunes that I've missed out on). Like Louis' wanderings, the learning never ends...
@@AlexFarranGuitar The George Harrison 6/9 chord can be played without the thumb by substituting the first finger for the thumb and using the pinky ont he B and high E strings. Neither position is very comfortable, but I'd rather have a sore pinky than a sore thumb. Here's to fake caviar and pretty good whisky!
@@AlexFarranGuitar ive been playing it (well kinda) non stop all afternoon - its lovely - everywhere i go - everyone I interact wth - i hear a tune I never heard before and it staggers me - every day - I find musical gold - makes you keep looking - Thnak you Alex - always a pleasure
This is amazing can’t wait to get it under my fingers. As always it is played so tastefully and accompanied with intelligent and enlightening narrative. Thanks.
A valuable lesson from Louis there to stop and smell the flowers occasionally 😊 A musical accompaniment to his escapades might be fun. Perhaps a jazz guitar arrangement of ‘Everybody Wants to be a Cat’ 🐈 🤣
yes, and I just changed it again I’m trying to find a handle that doesn’t lead off in into the bushes somewhere. I’m afraid I failed again. my latest attempt: jeremyversusjazz
@@AlexFarranGuitar Sorry I missed the live prem... awesome though man! Can't wait to start playing around with it. Getting so many composition ideas from all I have learnt from you so far. xx
