Jan de Haan was born in Holland exactly two months before I was born in U.S.A. (in 1951). His 1995 work is about Banja Luka, the second-largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. It was deeply involved in the Yugoslav war, and we can hear and feel many sounds and emotions of war in this work. For several years, the Serbs kept many Croatians and Bosnians in a concentration camp near Banja Luka.
We've (Stadtmusik Burgdorf) played it today in Bueren (Switzerland) in case of the music competition in Berne, which happens all 5 years. It's an absolutely great composition!
the only problem i have with with their preformance is that they don't play the cresendo (when the army is supposed to be marching in) as full as it should be ecspeacially the percusion the dynamics could have increased a lot more. but other than that i really loved it! and i cant wait to preform it at my band concert!

A very great composition. We've (Soli Deo Gloria Ommen, NL) played it several years ago, but in my understanding the sirene has to stop at 4:23..
