BTS has more than 100 songs you can't love them all So I understand what you mean. And also not only Chris travel to Korea but the all band too. And he did a shout out to Jin during the Global Citizen concert by literally shouting Worldwide Handsome.

For me when I listened Butter for the first time it just didnt hit me but I have seen people go gaga over butter on first listen... But I really loved ptd and many people didnt like that song... So in conclusion everyone's ear and taste is not same. There are coldplay songs for me too that I dont like . Like a sky full of stars .... I cant listen to it on daily basis but its a good song for concerts. So I believe like context is also important. Anyway thank you for again being honest . Appreciate it.😊😊 I genuinely liked my universe and happy that two of faves collided😎😎

Never feel guilty for a first impression, as long as it's honest 💜 It took me a few listens with "Permission to Dance" to love it & I totally get what you mean about feeling conflicted because you love the message but aren't sold on the song. I've learned that when it comes to music, I need at least 2-3 listens before I finalize any decisions 😅

Ok here some facts BTS love for Coldplay is a real one. Suga, RM, Hobi went to see them live 6 years ago when they did their cobcert in Seoul and didn't stop gushing over them after that. Also V, 3 years ago, surprised everybody by saying out loud he wanted a collab with Coldplay during an american interview . And Jin said "fix you" had help him a lot during hard times . Now regarding Coldplay they really shine during live concert. They are really a live band. I saw them twice and it was more than great, one of the best concert experience just like King of Leon and BTS live. All different but so so good and so so much better live. And yes Coldplay discography is huge and really meaningful. I will try to send you 5 of my fav for you to listen. Ooh they also are huge philanthropists and had help so many countries and oganisations even the UN. Chris Martin sang this song with the Korean parts by himself and just with his guitar on the Kelly Clarkson show. Thank you for apologising. It just show what a great man you are. Respect

"It's very special and hopeful to me that the most popular artist in the world speaks Korean and is a group of brothers not from the west. And their songs, it's really a message of togetherness and finding being yourself, all the stuff I agree with"
“We collaborated with a band, it’s been one of the most fun things we’ve ever done. This is a song we do with BTS. This is about… love who you love.”
    -Chris Martin
PS- its totally ok to not like some songs, honestly I really appreciate and respect your honesty! Pls keep this genuine like this💜

Chris saying "Perfect" to Taehyung might seem like a very simple compliment because it's Kim Taehyung and he must be used to getting that comment but Coldplay has been one of his biggest inspirations and he loves them a lot. He once named them his dream collab and I'm so happy that this happened and he got it. Chris and Taehyung interactions were so cute. Watch the live performances of Chris singing my universe and you'll see him stopping at Tae's verse every single time, he doesn't sing it like other parts. He pays respect and smiles so huge like he's proud of this young artist and that makes me so happy. Can't imagine how happy Taehyung must have been about how this turned out. His line became the highlight for so many people because his deep heavenly vocals fits perfectly with Coldplay and their music. I love two baritones who appreciates each other a lot. Our versatile musician finally got a chance to sing something in his range and he nailed it. So so proud! 💛

Chris travelled to Korea and due to the country’s strict Covid policies he had to stay in quarantine for 2 weeks after he landed before he could get out and meet BTS in person. That is commitment! It looks like this was filmed about the same time they filmed the Butter video due to their hair color. If you listen, played Butter for him before it was released.

    • @MarinaEariel
      @MarinaEariel 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I think he didn't do the full quarantine, he did a special routine for those who were fully vaccinated and applied for an exemption. They had to get the special exemption by presenting their vaccination certificates on the South Korean Embassy or Consulate. They then needed a recent (72 hours or less) test certificate on entering the country and take a new test on arrival. Last steps were to stay in a government set-up quarantine facility until the test results were ready, and then stay on one location the rest of the trip, or at least during the full 14 days are completed (they had to use an app with a tracking element). I'm guessing he stayed the night at HYBE's HQ? He said he went back around 36 hours after he passed the last control

I definitely get what you mean by saying that the first reaction or feeling listening to the music for the first time usually ends up being very different compared to what it grows into later. When I became ARMY and started going through the whole BTS’ discography, I was exposed to genres and sounds that I have never listened to in my whole life. Being that ignorant and not knowing how to appreciate them I kind of skipped through many songs just thinking ”it’s not for me”. It took me a while, but after I got to know better BTS as people, I started appreciating their songs more naturally and actually started understanding them! Now I absolutely love their whole discography, honestly there isn’t a single song that I don’t like. This experience taught me two things - first, getting to know the artist will most likely make you like their songs a lot more, and second, coming to listen to new music without any prejudice is a key to understanding it better even from the first listen 💜

  • @nalani2553
    @nalani2553 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Here’s the thing - you weren’t wrong in not being fond of it at first; some songs have to grow on you like all kind of art, and it either does or it doesn’t. I actually didn’t like Dynamite at first *awaits my cancellation* because I thought it was just fluff. It wasn’t until I saw the B-Side MV, saw how much they were enjoying themselves, and saw that their only goal was to make us happy that I started to like the song.
Knowing something about Coldplay and Chris Martin’s philosophies also helped mold my preconceived love of the song. There’s no “leader” in Coldplay - they each have a voice. When they have a disagreement they talk as a group. They all get equal pay and don’t put their egos ahead of the group. They’re very “one love” and although their methods and genres may differ, the two bands are very similar in their passion, philanthropy, and group dynamic.
    I knew you’d come around 😉😂

You don’t need to apologize for not liking a song / band or whatever. I hate when people leave negative comments to bully you into sharing the same tastes as them. You are an individual , you can have a differing opinion even if it goes against the majority. People need to stop forcing reactors to just agree with them and say only nice things - as long as you aren’t rude or disrespectful, continue to be authentic and sharing honest reactions.
I’m new here , the first reaction I watched was your my universe reaction and you deciding you don’t like the song, made me intrigued about your channel. It makes me trust you’ll be genuine. All the best 💜

Chris Martin actually is also a philanthropist and has donated to a few causes. He is also outspoken about unfair trade practices and other social issues. He was married to Gwyneth Paltrow for about 13 yrs and had 2 children (now grown up) before they decided to amicably divorced or what they called it as "conscious uncoupling", first time I ever heard of such a term exists...lol

😂not every song can be our favorite. That's what's so special about something being someone's favorite. Even though I love BTS, there are obviously many songs that I like more than others and I think that's absolutely fine. Almost all of their stuff have some purpose behind them that go beyond them just being for entertainment. Those songs have a special place in my heart, even if I like some of their other stuff more. They are not going to be the songs that I'd say are my favorites but they'll definitely hold my fondness and gratitude. When you said the thing about feeling "guilty" for maybe not vibing with a song and then finding out the message and feeling like "...oh well..😶", it's understandable😂. But I don't think it should make you feel guilty for not liking it as much. Everyone has different preferences, and that's all there is to it. There are multiple ways in which we can relate and support a cause or message without feeling obliged to absolutely love the medium. I have been a Coldplay fan and a BTS fan for a while now and I really like this song, but I can still understand what you were trying to say. I'm sorry but your whole dilemma made me laugh.😂
The thing that I liked the most in both the videos is your honesty. Music is a journey, and you're definitely right about that.

Sometimes one needs context to really make a song sink in. I personally was so so on Permission to Dance. It had the musical signature of Ed Sheeran and the demasking in the mv, as it was filmed well before the impacts of Delta, ultimately felt like fantasy in the midst of suffering. But then BTS performed at the UN, and in the context of the UN's many humanitarian missions, the song started hitting for me. So for you to actually see this documentary and start evolving your opinions is a positive. It shows you can absorb additional information and integrate it adjusting your opinion wherever the new information carries you.

So thoroughly enjoyed your two videos. It was a long epic journey. I'm so glad to finally hear what you had to say about this project. Well, we first got two short teasers from BTS and Coldplay and then a short concept art of the lyric video. We got so excited to see each members handwriting of Korean lyrics and ARMYs quickly pieced together who is going to sing which part by looking at the handwriting...then they dropped the epic lyric video and we finally had a chance to hear the full song with hobi and suga's rap parts. Then supersonic and acoustic versions got released right after soon to be followed by this documentary. The epic starwars+guardians of galaxy+avengers mv was the last addition to this saga so yeah...it has been a journey...Oh yeah there was another piece to this long and epic saga. Back in the days Jin hinted in one of his vlive videos that he had met someone he admired for so long and did something that he couldn't share with us. Then he showed us a polaroid picture hidden on the back of his phone case. ARMYs realized that this was the famous picture of Chris and Jin with a guitar that Chris gave to Jin as a present with, "world wide handsome" signed on it. So glad that I finally got your reaction. Thanks man.

I meant to say that it was a journey for many ARMYs...I know there were some strong emotions stirred up every corner... I know this song was not for everyone and even some ARMYs were let down by the the distribution of lyrics. I loved this project but got to appreciate it so much more after watching this documentary just like you said. Besides their professionalism, sheer talents, and humbleness, I could really feel how much they enjoyed the process and appreciated the outcome. Like you put it there is magic in seeing things from the boys perspective. It always makes things 1000 times more enjoyable and you always end up appreciating their art so much more deeply! 💜💜💜💜

Coldplay has a vast back catalogue of amazing songs. They can do anything. Try 'Amsterdam' and anything off the 'rush of blood to the head' album, 'Arabesque" 'Politik' "midnight' 'coloratura' and 'trouble in town'. There's nearly 25 years of quality and variety. They are so popular and so underated at the same time. As a lyricist and musician Chris is super special. Coldplay already stand the test of time.

Chris Martin on working with BTS:
“We really don’t believe in any boundaries or separation of anything, so My Universe is about someone being told they can’t love a certain person, or can’t be with this race - whatever it might be."
"And we thought, it would be good to sing this with BTS because maybe we're not supposed to be together. And it turned out to be one of the most fun things ever. I went to Korea to be with them, it’s been amazing.”
“This is a true love song. Not only is it about the person you love the most, but it’s about always fighting for love. And if possible, sing about it with BTS."

Your whole reaction to this was mine. I'm not a fan of Coldplay and it's because, yes they are a band but to ME they arent a rock or metal band. That's what I listen to. I think of them as pop rock which isn't my favorite and I know BTS like them but that doesn't mean I have to.
However, watching this made me like the song more because I didn't like it initially. Personal taste, but watching this made give the song another chance and they freaking got me.

I completely understand. It can take me several listens before I love a song- often hearing different things each time and learning to appreciate it more bit-by-bit. Also, I often like a song much better after watching the live performance (Dionysus for me - some of the siren gives me a headache, so it's a skip in the car but the performance is real cool) or learning the message behind it. No shame if the song doesn't meet your taste, especially when it is purely from an auditory standpoint. When we say BTS has something for everyone, we should also accept that also means not every song will be a 10/10 hit for the same people.

I understand everything you mean by first impressions and guilt and not disagreeing with the message, etc etc. I dig my heels in when I get hate for speaking my opinion, too. PTD was like that. I mean, even Dionysus was like that for me. Then I saw their live stages and understood the songs were meant to be live, not studio, and liked them more. I always have to leave room for a live BTS stage improving on my first impression of it isn't too great. (Which literally has only happened 3% of their discography, so I'm perfectly happy with that. Lol)

From the first moment I love My Universe. I don't understand why some fans of both bands have rated it without trying to understand the great message it carries and the love that both bands put into this project.
On the part of Army, there are those like you who made reference to the lines of Jimin and Jin (some noticed that for example RM who participated in the writing, has a small phrase that he shares, leaving him as 2 word only). I think that if the boys are happy with the collaboration since they are admirers of Coldplay (that was mentioned a few years ago), with the fact that even with the restrictions that existed due to the pandemic Chris Martin has traveled to Korea to record with them when he could do it remotely, with the lyrics and enjoyed the recording process, we should all enjoy the song they offer us. In addition, in the documentary Jin expresses his excitement for the collaboration and we see Jimin jumping with pleasure when going to record after Chris Martin tells them that their voices will join in that part of the song; they are not one to bother with the number of lines, they know that it depends on the type of song and which voices it suits them best.
I love that it wasn't Coldplay feat. BTS giving him a couple of BTS lines, it really is Coldplay X BTS, everyone participating. Let's not forget that it is part of the Coldplay album, but even so I consider that it was 50% -50%, only that BTS has 7 singers and Coldplay only 1. Also, the detail of including the sound of the whale Whalien 52 is appreciated, ssince it has a lot of meaning for BTS and Army.
I don't know many Coldplay songs either, but after the cover and the collaboration was requested, I began to read about the band, finding that it was referenced that their songs were positive, that Chris Martin was distinguished by his simplicity, charisma and by your participation in charitable projects. For example, in April that he met and recorded them, Chris Martin gave them some buttons with the word Love that are part of an international humanitarian campaign promoting love of oneself and others, of which he has been a part for years. I think precisely the participation of Chris Martin in that campaign and the BTS campaign with Unicef unites them completely, both bands seek the same thing and use their music to get their message across.
With My Universe the message is very clear when it points out "And they said we can't be together, because we come from different sides", which in the MV itself we see when we unite them in holograms, making it possible for them to be together despite generation differences, musical genre, language, continent, restrictions due to the pandemic, etc., giving a message of love to everyone.
And from my perspective with this collaboration and that the song is in both languages, Chris Martin recognizes the talent and worth as artists that the boys of BTS have, and encourages everyone to put aside the prejudices of the language barrier, age of the boys and even the type of music we usually listen to to give a chance to quality songs and with a great message for life.

If you are going to react to live concerts, please choose something in Brazil. This one of Coldplay shown in the video was in Brazil, and BTS in Brazil in 2019 was insane. In fact, all the BTS concerts in Brazil were reeeeeeally good, even the first and smallest ones.

You totally named how I feel about Dynamite. I appreciate how sincerely they just wanted to put out a fun song to lift people’s spirits, but I don’t love it. It grew on me with some of the performances, hearing the bass line more during Tiny Desk for instance, or when I started focusing more on some of JK’s ad libs. But yeah, it was their first BB#1 and all that so I almost feel guilty for not loving it!
Also, my reaction to 98% of songs on first listen is “meh”. Even with BTS, I have to let the sound become a little familiar before I can even start to like it! So yeah, I could never have a reaction channel and I greatly admire you for having such a good one!! 💜💜

People are allowed to change their minds and it's admirable when people are willing to admit they changed their opinion after getting more information. I'm a Coldplayer but I started to really like BTS thanks to this collab!
From Coldplay's upcoming album highly recommend Coloratura I don't think you would expect that song from them but at the same time it is very much Coldplay. Also Trouble in Town, and Arabesque from their previous album are really great. I liked your reaction to this video so I would be curious to see what you think of the coldplay songs I suggested. 😊

Same.... I know at the back of my head that Coldplay is big but I dont know much of their songs and it goes to other big western artist since I stopped listening to them for some personal reasons until Bangtan came into my life in 2015. From their debut album to this latest song, I dont just know all of it but also connected to each of their songs. I remember when Coldplay had their concert here in Singapore in 2017 and some of my friends were getting crazy to get tix which I dont understand..... well, look at me, even frustrated that I cant get that purple whale at weverse in all their 3x times of pre-order 😅

Don't feel bad about changing your mind. It is hard to feel the same way about a song all the time and as reactors you listen to the music and try to tell what they were going for while listening to the first listen. Many times we don't understand what it is about or how it was produced things that might change the perspective of the way we listen to a song. Also not knowing what the songwriters had in mind may also come into play, I also wonder whether they used instruments, synths or a bit of both, not that any is wrong it just changes where the song is coming from for me. So I totally understand and last it must be hard to document your first listen when we all know in the life of a song our choices change but you put your neck out there time an time again to react to the first listen of a song. Much respect. Now eat that crow.🤣💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

I was watching some interviews done by Chris about this collab and Chris kinda low key admitted that he had those preconceptions of kpop and had the usual prejudices but once he explored BTS' music and decided to do the collab he said it was an amazing experience. I appreciated that he got himself off of that box and made MUSIC unite people.

Chris Martin is the sweetest man. I'm really glad about this collaboration because no one has treated our boys with as much kindness.
Regarding Coldplay music if you want to give them a shot I'd recommend Violet Hill, Politik, Arabesque, God put a smile upon your face and Coloratura to start off. I think the same thing yoongi said for BTS would apply to coldplay "listen to our music without prejudice and you'll find that you like it" 😊

My reaction is that it is an excellent song, but BTS is in a very dark exenario for our liking since they also shine like our light, and I would have liked more dance from them, otherwise the video is very good, already that RM, who is my favorite, sings very beautiful as never in his small part; cool how they are in everything and coldplay, hug

As I commented on your other MU reaction, I neither like or dislike Coldplay-they just don’t register with me. But I’ve been listening to them a lot since I’ve been streaming MU on different playlists, many of them posted by Coldplayers, so I’ve heard more of their music in the past week than I have in the past 20 or so years that they’ve been on the scene. I can’t say my opinion about their music has changed much-I find it to be pleasant but forgettable background music-but one song that really caught my attention and that I’ve been listening to on my own is Paradise. Something about it hits just right. So if you’re looking for recs from a fellow non-fan, I’d say check it out.
