I was the THIRD generation in my family that your father treated for diabetes. Good to see you presenting this informative video. Thanks very much. Some observations of mine on this subject. I agree with what you have said. But from real life experience, please look at the availability and the exorbitant prices of rolled oats and steel cut oats in India. I think whole oats (groats) are a very good cereal especially for diabetics. It is not even easily available in India, and the few brands that may be available are exorbitantly priced, much higher than quick cooking oats. I thought that the more processing involved the higher the prices should be
It is the other way around. Maybe, very knowledgeable specialists like you can highlight this to the people concerned and help reduce the cost of groats, rolled oats, etc. Once again, thanks for the post.

Nice to know the differences between the two types of oats. Steel cut oats and the other one. The one with the bran has more nutritious and doesn’t increase the glycemic index, hence it is a good item for breakfast.
Thank you Dr. VM for clarifying the differences between the two and its benefits to a diabetic patient as a person who has BP too. Even Colon Cancer can also be avoided, constipation……Some diabetologists also recommend not to eat oatmeal due to the high glycemic index of the other type and it is an eye 👁️ opener for me too since l am a diabetic person for about 12 years. It’s a very educative video

In the morning(or overnight), before breakfast, our blood sugar is always higher than usual. So, to measure blood sugar related to oatmeal, it's probably best to do so 2 hours after oatmeal is consumed. More importantly, it is the sugar spike we should try to avoid. Study has indicated that the order in which we eat the food in each meal makes a big difference in avoiding sugar spike.

Youre highly wrong about white rice and brown rice. Both the rice have the same amount of carbs and even the fiber difference is minimal so both of them will have a similar blood sugar spike. If you pair your rice with fiber rich foods like vegetables, protein and fats it will automatically reduce the spike irrespective of wheather you eat with brown or white rice

I am now wearing the continuous monitor and confirm that what you say is true for me. So sorry to hear it is so costly in India. Here in Bermuda, a lot of things are also exorbitant BUT oats only cost about $4.00 a pound for organic, and $5.95 when prepackaged . Tomorrow I will try the Buckwheat groats after soaking.

But I don't know where to get rolled or steel cut oats? And which brand? Mostly they sell Quaker oats only.

A quarter cup of steel cut oats prepared as directed raises my blood glucose level from about 100 to almost 200. I have tried this several times. I don’t see how that is ok.
