BMW E30 333i identical replica build and restore…
This was an idea and thought that became a reality…
It all started off as a shell that was paint stripped and the colour of choice was Aero Silver.
Engine and drivetrain:
After sourcing the period correct engine block, we opted for new pistons that had to be 92mm (M30B35). We had the clearance and gapping between cylinders check and had enough space between them for the 92mm pistons. The crankshaft and Conrad’s were left standard from the M30B32. The compression height had been checked and cleared for the combination. The cylinder head used is from the M3035. The headers/ exhaust branch and exhaust were custom made by Sanjeev at Powerflow Randburg.
We used the correct flywheel with the correct crankshaft positioning points for the sensors. The original dogleg gearbox was mated to the engine as well.
A custom Propshaft mated to the period correct ratio diff installed as well.
Braking system:
We sourced original rotors and calliper’s from the 333i’s for the front and maintained the 323i setup at the rear end.
All the correct Alpina branded components were used in this build.
Interior:
With the exterior colour being Aero Silver, we chose to use a cream leather for the seats.
We also chose a sunroof with powersteering and ABS as for this build as those would’ve been one of the two options back then.
This car feels, sounds, looks and drives like an original 333i, I think we’ve achieved our goal. I will do a follow up video of the entire build and drive of the car soon.
