A tattoo is far simpler and less damaging of a decision; are we now going to let kids get tattoos? Have sex?? No. Absolutely not. They can make those decisions when they're adults.

I’m a liberal Californian and pray the same passes in my state. A child has no business choosing life-altering surgical procedures just because it’s trending. Todays depressed children are exposed to things that are harmful and dangerous to their psychology. Instead of focusing on therapy and bettering themselves, they are told a quick surgical fix would help them. The neo trans people can preach whatever they want to their kids, but our children need/deserve our protection.

I'm in LA, always leaned pretty left (although now more towards the center) and seeing the deliberate psychological manipulation over and over and over again from them has made it embarrassing to associate myself with the left of today. It's nothing close to how it was 10+ years ago, and it's getting crazier every month.

@Oy Blech I agree. 18 years is simply too late for some individuals. I know people that developed all the secondary sex characteristics around 14-15 years of age. If such person happened to be trans, they have to live with the bodies that they don't feel comfortable with for their ENTIRE LIVES. Once development is complete, it's really difficult to revert those characteristics.

And gender affirming care is just a nice way of saying "life changing surgery and treatments that no amount of later regret can fix." These are children, and they are going to take hints about their gender from friends and family before their sense of identity is even firmly established. Such treatment should wait until they are adults and have agency to make that choice for themselves rather than having it made for them by others.
We don't led children smoke, drink alcohol, drive cars, get tattoos or have cosmetic surgery, yet this is ok? Unless studies come out showing that the efficacy of such treatment is beyond reproach, the rational thing to do in this situation is to be conservative and not allow for such drastic measures until the science is fully out. And as of right now, it seems like there are more than a few people who get this sort of treatment and regret it later.

This isn't anti anyone. It protects minors from being poisoned and/or mutilated while they are too young to make their own decisions. It protects teachers from being forced to play along with someone else's emotional problem. It saves children from being exposed to emotionally damaged people in the bathroom.

Does this bill protect kids from parents who wish them to have plastic surgery against their will? No it does not, it targets one group. Does it improve the teachers lives or the students? No really pronouns are just words one can say in connection to a person. As for bathrooms it has not really saved anyone as most children are not perverts or rapists. Nor is it likely the average trans student would they have the strength to overpower the majority of children their age given that puberty would only just be begining by the end elementry school. This bill is a waste of time targeted at a small group of people with no gain for the people.

Most parents love their children and have incentive to see them thrive. I think it does improve lives of the majority of students and teachers who are not emotionally disturbed. Bathrooms in schools are frequented by children with disparities of age, size and strength. I had kids in my own grade who were 5 years older than me. And in my first school some were 11 years older. This bill is long overdue and the majority of students, parents and children can breathe a sigh of relief.
I love that being referred to with the pronouns matching their sex and having to use the bathroom matching their sex is "going to kill kids", but being told that there is something fundamentally wrong with their body and they need to be mutiliated in order to live happily will not...
