Kitzingen ist eine Stadt im nordbayerischen Regierungsbezirk Unterfranken.
Mit 23.377 Einwohnern ist sie die viertgrößte Stadt in Unterfranken.
Die Stadt liegt im fränkischen Schichtstufenland auf Muschelkalkböden.
Die Geschichte der Stadt Kitzingen beginnt um etwa 745 mit der Gründung eines Frauenklosters durch Hadeloga, nach der Sage eine Tochter des fränkischen Hausmeiers Karl Martell.
1040 wurde erstmals eine Siedlung um das Kloster erwähnt. Vom 11. bis zum 15. Jahrhundert entwickelte sich Kitzingen nach und nach zur Stadt.

Kitzingen is a city in the northern Bavarian administrative district of Lower Franconia.
With 23,377 inhabitants, it is the fourth largest city in Lower Franconia.
The city is located in the Franconian stratified area on shell limestone soils.
The history of the city of Kitzingen begins around 745 with the founding of a women's monastery by Hadeloga, according to legend a daughter of the Franconian mayor of the palace, Charles Martel.
In 1040, a settlement around the monastery was first mentioned. From the 11th to the 15th century, Kitzingen gradually developed into a city.
