@@mikejames04it’s because they have a mentorship culture.
When people boys and girls go to the park of all ages they all teach each other and celebrate for each other.
It’s not like in the west in my experience where everyone does their own thing.
In the west if you don’t have a dad whose a pro or are best friends with someone who is insanely skilled you just do your own thing.
The “cool kids” who are advanced or often focused on showing their skills but they don’t come and teach you.
They let you sit back in awe and feel awkward and intimidated to use the park.
You end up sitting there watching and not wanting to “take up space” only sometimes did I have rare sessions where there was someone cool that came and. Tried to mentor me tell me what I should try.
In Japan it’s like every skatepark is a skate college.
      They’re all tutoring each other.
I swear to god even the women are ripping because they’re not treated any different m, they get taught the basics and pushed to do technical street stuff and shown how it’s done.
You got momiji doing nose slide 270 heel out on her Instagram. You got Yumeka doing blunts, kickflip feeble. Funa FS crook big rails, nose blunt slide.
They all hang together and learn together. Even the male skaters like Dora cheer for them and help them.
Even outside of contest skaters I’ve seen teenage Japanese girls unknown on small social media pages just ripping, doing lined with full cab flips, tech grinds, switch flips, backside 360 kickflip in a line.
It’s mental. They just have a way better skate culture that’s more open and non judgemental.
