I didn't meet Norman but I found him unforgettable. His death was so unexpected. Or it felt that way because it seemed like he was getting a handle on his addiction. He was so honest and raw. Sharing himself like that ... I know it sounds crazy but it felt like losing a friend. Maybe you know what I mean but sometimes your channel and the people you interview, they endear themselves to us viewers. Norman was one of those. 💓🙏
This video could be a public service announcement. Norman is highly intelligent, he is no fool. what a example of the strength addiction. Norman I wish the best for you sir, thank you for sharing your hardships with total honesty.
Phil Lashio If I worked in a drug rehab for many years I would be burnt out too. That’s a really tough job. I hope there is someone in your life to show you the same compassion and understanding that folks like Norman need.
@Phil Lashio That's a valid comment. I suppose it was his open honesty about his addictions and failures, something about the appeared honesty of his story i appreciated. He didn't seem delusional, said he was college educated but you're right, he may just be a good story teller. Highly intelligent may be an overstatement.
I understand the burn out and frustration. But i feel awareness is not healing it's just the start. I hope you find a profession that doesn't take limitless compassion because that's what these people need. For my children's sake i hope it's out there so they can see their dad someday. This for phil lashio.
Yes, the most powerful addiction testimony ever! I cannot imagine a more succinct, eloquent, brutally honest, and profound testimony than that. This is one that will stay with me. I don't think i will ever forget it. This should be shown in schools worldwide. Norman's testimony is so powerful, that it could save lives. Just as he remembers seeing that program on the homeless all those years ago, i believe that his testimony would stay with many children and they would never forget it. And be able to remember it when it matters the most - to not ever take that first hit! He's brilliant, obviously. And his potential is endless. I hope and pray so much that Norman makes it out! Because he would be able to truly change lives. And accomplish whatever he sets his mind to do. He would make an excellent public speaker! Donald Stratton hey Norman ! I’m so glad you did this interview . I believe you’ve opened a lot of eyes. Hang in there , I do believe you can make it out. When you do it , do it for you.
This man is well spoken. This man is intelligent. He is us. I think I love this man. Love as a word, from the other side of the world, here, isn't enough. Please use some of my donation to buy this man a real meal. I don't care if that means he may or may not have more money for crack. I want to give him energy.. on his way to the end of his road, or just perhaps, but probably not to some where else...
AFatFoe your writing evokes poetry & sensitivity & empathy. Beautiful. I love that u said “he is us”. For those whose lives are a huge contrast to some of the horror & tragedy we hear here; and therefore have difficulty relating to some experiences, Norman’s story really hits home. (Although when Americans talk about having multiple cars I never really understand how/why but that’s a complete side issue 🤔. Stay safe ppl😷🥺♥️🌺☮️👊🏻. It’s not easy, this life malarkey, but it can always get better xx
Their are a lot of intelligent people struggling with addiction the differences between me and him I like other shit way better then sucking on that glass dick “I just had enuff of everything that came with smoking crack “
@Carol Schwarz Thank you for your kind words Carol. I am a part time poet. Well spotted. I'm a 3d Special Effects Artist AND Driving Instructor. Seemingly strange combo. I do both because I love meeting people from all walks of life, it's in my nature, or perhaps it's what I have learnt. Teaching people how to drive manual transmission cars allows me hear peoples stories from all over the city and it sometimes allows me to give gentle life advice from time to time. Just meeting them all, connecting, if not for just a few months brings me joy.
UTubeuzername84 I agree. I hate when people say that. The first time I saw an individual smoking crack in my house would be the last time they smoked crack in my house.
He NEVER thought he would be in the situation that he's in, which goes to show you that you never really know what you're willing to experiment. He turned it down for 3 days but the 4th day he tried it and his life hasn't been the same since. But to each is own
No, it couldn't be anyone. I love this interview. But to do drugs is a choice. That is a lie. Don't be a drug addict. Don't promote being a drug addict And surely don't try to cover up if you are a drug addict by telling people that bull crap you just said.
Sure he does not allow himself to stay in a tent in skidrow. He rides the trains and buses all night for shelter and away from the crimes that go on downtown.
@@ladyofthecentury I said what I said sweety!! I've NEVER done drugs, not even tobacco. Who's to say I never will though!? He probably thought he could try it and not become addicted. Ppl like u never try to think beyond your own full of bull opinions.
Norman Fondren God Bless You Norman and I really meant it when I said you’re a good guy . I’ve been in recovery for 3 years after many years of active addiction. I understand how addiction controls us . I’m praying for you and believing for your miracle to happen 😊
Amazing honest interview of an intelligent articulate man who had everything, just goes to show the devastating effect rape has on a young person, I wish him to conquer his addiction and not waste all that potential
Mark, your channel changes the perspective on life itself. You rock man, if possible please keep up the channel, it’s not only up lifting but also eye opening.
This man was my coworker literally 2 months ago , He is the funniest guy I ever met and he can cook His butt off ! This brought tears to my eyes immediately
So much sadness and guilt. His talents and the advantages he had didn't cut it for him, because all he wanted was something to numb that pain. WTF makes adults want to harm children? So many lives are ruined by abuse.
It’s Interesting how someone so educated and successful chose this life over the one he had. I admire his honesty about his addiction. I wonder how his life would have turned out had he not opened his home to addicts all those years ago. Wishing him the best of luck.
He didn’t choose this life crack cocaine did . Crack heads and experience drug users if there is something called like that always tell never do it even once . One hit and you might be the unlucky one get addicted and can’t walk away from it ever again chasing that’s first high. While some people use it n can jst stop n never use it again but that few that hit it once and it’s game over .
Addiction has no face, I’m a nurse and an addict, I have been clean for only 4 weeks and I’m still in pain! I’m not going to use ever again! I lost my best friend (my husband) because I went down the rabbit hole!! Norman you are truly an amazing man, thank you for sharing your story! I wish you all the best in your journey ! Stay blessed 🙏
I’ve never been so captivated by an interview before. Mark didn’t even need to ask questions, or even be there for that matter. This guy is a master story teller.
He is the most honest person I’ve seen on here....it’s like how can you be mad at him when he’s so honest...wish him the best tho ! Hope he gets the help he needs life is much better not living in addiction
I’m sorry for what happened to this intelligent , articulate person, but he needs to be strong and make a conscious decision in his mind that “No matter what happens” he doesn’t pick up, only then will he find peace & serenity & true freedom....I believe in you Norman , you can do it, you have done it before, and you remember July 19th, don’t ever think ur too well, or you have it bruv , you have ur faith in God to fill the void , stay strong 🙏
This interview really hit my heart and soul. Not that I don’t feel for all of the others Mark interviews, that are sick and struggling, but this man is equipped with the mental tools and immense intelligence to truly do something positive for himself. He is not at all interested in sugar coating or lying about his addiction which is a very rare occurrence when it comes to the addicted mind. Norman, you are an amazing man. Addiction will not win with you. I feel it in my heart. You have a powerful message and the intelligence to back it up. Bless you, better days are coming. 💙
Man, I have never cried watching one of these stories until now....I am sorry your life took this turn, brother. May God have mercy on you, and lift you out of it.
He is my favorite interview so far and I have seen all of your videos. His truth is so raw and real and I hope he can get help of this horrible disease we suffer from.
This man needs a case study. I think he should volunteer himself to any new research for addiction and recovery, because the other 50 something have failed. He's clearly smart, he clearly has a switch that says "go back to the rock"; self-destruct. It's easy to blame the sexual abuse, or death of his mother, etc...but we really just dont know. How many successful, well-off people, who've had the same things happen and go on to lead normal, healthy lives...how many of those people do we hear about? We don't. Someone in addiction research needs to find this man and find out how to ELIMINATE THE DESIRE, not just continually live life by suppressing that desire. Norman, please do yourself a favor, and get help from in a research institute who is interested in your case. I'm sure you could do something for the world since you're so articulate, you could greatly benefit researchers and scientists who need accurate feedback from experimental treatments. #CASESTUDYNORMAN
You can't eliminate the desire. That's why they say when you're ready. You'll know. You have to have the desire and still say no. Ask any ex user now and they'll still tell you. It was amazing. They still know how good it feels.
Mesmerised by this interview . I think out of all the interviews I’ve watched with the addicts you have spoken to this one really helped me understand addiction .
Wow one of the best interviews you've done. He is open, honest and raw about his situation. Nobody is immune. I have faith he will pull himself out of this.
Best interview ever Mark ! I will keep Norman in my prayers, may he break this cycle of self destruction. I pray he is sober in his next interview , I know he has the power inside himself to do it!
I often watch these videos with a sense of relief , that my life does not have much in common with alot of the addicts interviewed. Norman's story is such a clear picture of what can happen, the destruction of past unhealed trauma regardless of achievements. Norman, I wish you healing and health.
I lost my son a few months ago. This story really gets to me. He told me a year before he died he was raped by a uncle age 7. He became a coke user 5 years ago. He’s now gone. I tried everything I even took pics after an overdose to show him. He said I don’t lion that bad ! He did
OMG right off the bat this man is beautifully articulate. He may have fallen out of life but it’s never too late to shut the door, head up and never turn back again.
I've seen so many interviews on this channel but this one is a wake up slap in the face. Maaan...if this interview doesn't show what the effects of trauma and abuse does, nothing will. His issue isn't the crack, it is his unresolved trauma and abuse that makes the crack look so appealing. It helps him 'forget' about what has happened to him. I mean, of course crack is his issue but I mean his 'why' is more important. Damnn..to hear about all the things he lost. A smart educated man with all the things people want to have in life, just broken and on skid row. I look forward to watching his other videos. I can't wait to see updates and hope that goodness is coming his way.
Norman, I hope you go back and watch this and really listen to yourself. I think you are ripe and ready for real, lasting change but you must know and believe that. Best wishes to you on getting out of your own way and allowing in healing.
This man said something that hit home with me, It was what his grandma told him , "if you get with those people you will be like those people, and the only way is down." That statement I needed to hear. Thank you for doing this interview I hope people learn from this and I hope you find yourself and heal. God loves you call on him my friend. You will be in my prayers.
Outstanding interview. He deserves so much better. I hope he sees the support on this video and understands that we are rooting for him. God bless him.
I met Norman back in 2007-2010 in Los Angeles at the Midnight Mission and let me tell you that this brother is an absolute fuc$&*ing genius when it comes to computers and electronics, I'm not exaggerating. He's extremely intelligent!!! Peace to Norman, come back brother. Leonard M.
I just celebrated ten years of sobriety. The farther I walk on this journey the more humbled I am. This disease is spiritual in nature and it doesn’t rest until we and everything around us is destroyed. I send you love, Norman. Love and prayers. Trauma. The fucking gift that keeps on giving...
I definetly understand how baffling and powerful addiction is!!! Too powerful to explain yet a choice that we make until we're tired. Prayers to you❤❤❤
Wow. One of the best interviews on the channel. Brutal raw honesty....smh. Fight Norman!!!! You have to fight!!! You deserve so much better. I wish you all the best.
That's the thing about addiction: you think your mind controls you and is stronger than you. But yet, it is *your* mind. After awhile, you think you are weak against your thoughts and your thoughts are more powerful than you. Take the control back. You can do it when you want to. You have in the past. You just don't want to now. Just know that you do have the power when you want to use it.
I just watched the follow up video. I also almost immediately watched a cover for the sound of silence. Between this interview and that song, I’m a mess. Addiction can be so silent among those struggling and those on the outskirts looking into. I’m so moved by your soul and willpower. Keep going hun. You deserve to live life and share your wealth of knowledge and soul.
He said " when the disease says go, i go." I felt that but I can see him turning himself around. He will be a success. I can see running a rehab center.
I had to watch this twice in a row. There is something so special about this man. The amount of good he could bring to this world is unimaginable. I'm rooting for you Norman.
I enjoyed Norman, please have him back. I am sincerely rooting for him! He is VERY intellectual and deserves a platform. I wish him all of the best moving forward because he can do it. He HAS done it! Norman, I love you, keep your head high! You just made my night. Mind you, it’s 1 am on the East coast & I’m taking a break from life to smoke tobacco outside, by myself. You were quite the acquaintance for the night. Thank you.
So intelligent with so much to offer! As a person that struggled with addiction for almost 25yrs, primarily with heroin/fentanyl & crack cocaine, I know personally recovery is possible! It takes alot of motivation, hard work & dedication.....all of which are so hard especially in early recovery. The first year is probably the hardest personal battle any individual can go through & support is necessary.
Thank you for your honesty and being transparent about your addiction. I have a loved one who struggles with addiction and by watching this interview made me understand more about the struggles my family and I experience because of your perspective. If I’ve ever judged this interview humbled me to the core because no one is exempt from the woes of life

Don't think he's a rare case, just one who's willing to talk about it
Exactly I was waiting on someone to say this
Absolutely.
This is more common then Rare tbh
Everyone is rare that's why God made everyone individually this is Norman himself
Donald Stratton hey Norman ! I’m so glad you did this interview . I believe you’ve opened a lot of eyes. Hang in there , I do believe you can make it out. When you do it , do it for you.
Addiction is an equal opportunity employer.
Amen!! No DEI there...😮
This man is well spoken.
What i especially love about this particular channel is the fact so many good, compassionate souls. It gives me a small sliver of hope for humanity ♡♡
So much potential...I hope he finds the strength to beat his addiction...one of the best interviews!
The 2nd time he says “never told anybody” i felt his pain
Goodness me what a starkly brutal depiction of the downward spiral of addiction.
This goes to show that this could be anyone.. Very well spoken man, and I honestly feel like he doesn't want this lifestyle. Praying for you Norman!
Another honest and great interview. Norman you’re a good guy with a horrible addiction.
Norman Fondren God Bless You Norman and I really meant it when I said you’re a good guy . I’ve been in recovery for 3 years after many years of active addiction. I understand how addiction controls us . I’m praying for you and believing for your miracle to happen 😊
Norman I really appreciated your story 💙. Take care brother ✊🏾
Amazing honest interview of an intelligent articulate man who had everything, just goes to show the devastating effect rape has on a young person, I wish him to conquer his addiction and not waste all that potential
Such a powerful, raw and truthful testimonial.
Thank you Mark.
All the best to Norman
My son struggles with the same thing, every payday
@@carynmartin6053 sending love. I hope he finds his way. ♡♡

Yes! I agree he does! I really hope he turns it around too.
@kevin p I meant the way he talks,he kinda sounds like him
Leash C Yes, that's what I thought. His speech pattern and voice is very much like him!
@Leash C-- he passed away last week of a heart attack.
Mark updated it on Norman's very last video 💔
Mark, your channel changes the perspective on life itself. You rock man, if possible please keep up the channel, it’s not only up lifting but also eye opening.
Well said.
He’s very intelligent and articulate, I hope he can get sober one day
Damn! 😞
Raw , in depth , blames no one!
Smart, oratorical, holding on to sadness, anger, plus the addiction.
Hope you find your way back Norman.
This man was my coworker literally 2 months ago , He is the funniest guy I ever met and he can cook
His butt off ! This brought tears to my eyes immediately
@Norman Fondren I think I remember you 2........Did you use to sell candy on the bus
@Norman Fondren ok Thanks for replying
So much sadness and guilt. His talents and the advantages he had didn't cut it for him, because all he wanted was something to numb that pain. WTF makes adults want to harm children? So many lives are ruined by abuse.
I hope we has been said is all true

"I've been to Park Avenue, now I'm on a Park bench" powerful.
Someone should get this guy to do talks in schools.
I really hope he’s able to get clean. It’s be interesting to here his children’s perspective on his addiction. He’s been on drugs their whole lives 😢
‘I’ll never end up like that’ - These are words spoken by many. Thank you for your honesty brother sending you love from Canada ❤️

I’ve Been On Park Avenue, Now Im On a Park Bench, I’ve Had Riches Now I Have Rags - Norman 🧠
This is one of the few interviews I didn’t fast forward. One of the best interviews I’ve seen on here.
His honesty is unmatched! I’m rooting for you Norman!! He knows he needs to do better he just hasn’t hit “rock bottom.” I truly hope he gets help!!
Man, I have never cried watching one of these stories until now....I am sorry your life took this turn, brother. May God have mercy on you, and lift you out of it.
Tell him I understand, a lot of us do. We wouldn’t watch these videos if there wasn’t a part of us that totally understands his heartache.
Right? I sincerely hope and pray this can be the means of their pathway to freedom.
He is my favorite interview so far and I have seen all of your videos. His truth is so raw and real and I hope he can get help of this horrible disease we suffer from.
This is as real as it gets, hang in there dude
I think Norman would be a great candidate for Aura therapy with Lima?
people deal with trauma differently
Mesmerised by this interview . I think out of all the interviews I’ve watched with the addicts you have spoken to this one really helped me understand addiction .
Wow one of the best interviews you've done. He is open, honest and raw about his situation. Nobody is immune. I have faith he will pull himself out of this.
God give him strength to fight this demon. I lost my daughter last year to a drug overdose. 😭😢 She was a beautiful young woman.

This should be shown in each and every high school..
Hands down, one of the best interviews I’ve seen.
Wow Norman you have so much potential, the honesty you showed here, I would start with giving you a big hug.
I lost my son a few months ago. This story really gets to me. He told me a year before he died he was raped by a uncle age 7. He became a coke user 5 years ago. He’s now gone. I tried everything I even took pics after an overdose to show him. He said I don’t lion that bad ! He did
I’m so sorry for your loss of your son.

I am so sorry for your loss
I’m sorry for your loss
I'm praying for you Norman. Its so good to hear you got 7 days. Keep fighting. I appreciate your honesty and how you understand the disease.
What a powerful interview. Hit every spot in my soul!
I would love to see a follow up video on Norman! I appreciate his whole hearted honesty- this is the realest yet!! 💯
Outstanding interview. He deserves so much better. I hope he sees the support on this video and understands that we are rooting for him. God bless him.
Just saw an older photo of him on Facebook. Very handsome. My prayers are with him.
Leonard M.
I knew him also from the Midnight and the Union Rescue. He is well respected. He is highly intelligent.

I looked him up on Facebook and google very very smart and educated man
Can only hope he sees the comments and it motivates him to get clean

I definetly understand how baffling and powerful addiction is!!! Too powerful to explain yet a choice that we make until we're tired. Prayers to you❤❤❤
That kind of abuse happens way too often. It's a domino effect that really can't be broken. It's the saddest thing ever.
The most powerful and honest interview on this channel 💯❤
THIS! I’ve always said, you need to be in control of your mind vs it being in control of you.
Have u ever been addicted to hard drugs? Yea didn't think so
I just watched the follow up video.

What a CANDID interview! Wow Norman, you are one of a kind. Praying for Norman's deliverance from this addiction.
If I’ve ever judged this interview humbled me to the core because no one is exempt from the woes of life
I’ve watched this 3 times. It’s so haunting.
Intelligent and honest man. I hope he can overcome his addiction someday.
