I’ve been speaking to a friend of mine who has worked on some pretty wild guitars (he currently has a strat Hendrix played on his desk) and he provided some more insight to the radius of John’s strat: “Yeah I mean every guitar is different and unique but once you take the 7.25” peak out of the fretboard to flatten it, then if you wanted to go back, you’d have to round the edges and you’d go into the side dots and there isn’t enough rosewood to do that. It was completely unnecessary to plane it down to 9.5 (if they in fact, did!) but I guess that’s what the move of the day was but huge mistake. The better move would have been to put tall frets on and then dress the frets to a 7.25”-9.5 radius (not the wood) and it would have preserved the rosewood slab. 🤷♂️ “ Are his words, so I wanted to provide that correction and insight! 11:16
I own a ROADWORN 60 strat , 3 color sunburst faded 2 , with Tex mex pickup in Neck and Pure Vintage Toneriders in Middle and Bridge. Trough my Twin Reverb and my Blues Deluxe Tweed, very Underrated amp with Eminence The Wizard speaker, sounds INCREDIBLE, like a 70 Grand Vintage Strat, with a total cost of about 1000 US dlls, saving almost 18000, and I´´m VERY VERY HAPPY with this. UPGRADE IS THE ANSWER. Geetings from Concepcion. Buiobio Region, Chile Southamerica
If you really want a JF tribute guitar, order a 60’s style body from MJT. Send them pics of John’s guitar for reference. Then build the guitar to spec for $1000. I actually did exactly that last year. Couldn’t be happier with the outcome.
I have no issue with this selling for $20k. RIch ppl exist and this is a collectable. Ppl crying about it, you're not in that bracket. It's not for you
What’s more ridiculous is people hating on Frusciante for it. If you’re smart enough to know that what he is playing is an alder body strat with 60’s C neck and stock fender pickups, go build that guitar! And if you’re really smart and realize that half his tone comes from amps, effects, and production, go emulate that. And if you’re a genius and realize the majority of his sound comes from tremendous practice, go do that. But don’t complain
John was a lot stronger in the fingers when he was younger and played way more aggressive. After he returned to the band his style changed a lot for californication due to his arm injuries and lack of strength from abscesses and surgery so it could be that he never returned to that style of fretting very hard.
The pickups aren't specific to this guitar: AY's main output was a handwound "60's" set (ie the full signature ones, not the initialled ones) not available in anything other than masterbuilt or a costed upgrade for certain CS models. My fave guitar has them, and they are a joy.
Despite what you say. That’s still his name on the guitar. Whatever happened with the start of making this guitar his name is still on it and he’s not an idiot. He’s a rockstar who hasn’t been not rich in a long time. I am not upset about the price. I am upset of the way this guitar was made. He obviously didn’t want this didn’t really spend the time making it and there really isn’t much signature about this guitar.
Mate I love your videos. I watch them all the time. I'm subscribed, but it feels like you're trying to speculate excuses for fender, on their behalf. 😅 I think the reality is that John was not as involved in his guitar as Mike McCready was. it was mainly John's tech sent information to fender, we don't even know if the guitar was sent to fender if they came by to do some measurements or if they only got pictures and notes, we have absolutely no clue until they come up with something, a video about it or John tech gives an interview about it. Just buy an 20k Strato put some SSL pickups on it 😂😂😂😂 Ps: i'm attacking you or john just making a joke about the whole thing.. I honestly think that any good Strat with nice 60s pickups can do the Frusciante thing and there'sa lot of people out there making replicas, that will probably sound just as good as this one.
it’s definitely a cool guitar, and i’m obviously not the target audience cause if i had 20k to spend on whatever i wanted i’d buy a real vintage strat! nevertheless, i enjoy these videos !
Does anyone have an ETA on when the Mexican models will be released? Or better yet, would anyone know how long it took for the McCready MIM Signature Strata to come out after the Custom Shop models?
John got new handwound pickups in his 55 upon rejoining. wonder if he put these Ybarra pickups in his strat or had her rewind the original pickups. I do wonder if his guitar has 6105 frets.
John Frusciante is my most favorite guitar player but to expect something rational about his choices is uhhh... Just don't and just enjoy what you enjoy.
John seems to be of the mindset that you have to be rich to be his fan. For someone going on and on and on about being so esoteric this is pretty much selling out. He is esoteric all the way to the bank. Good for him i suppose.
Meanwhile JOhn: "I couldn't care less." I didn't know if they were making a guitar or not, I'm rich always have been...The last thing i think about is someone buying a guitar named after me or whatever...I don't care one way or the other.
for a 20k john strat I want the real spec pickup's otherwise it makes no sense for me ...johns 62 looked way cooler during californication era. the hum cancelling system is also something I actually don't need 😊
Im indifferent about this guitar. It’s cool for RHCP fans for the limited run of this model. Knowing the trend with signature guitars chances are Fender will release a Road Worn version of this guitar in a year or two which may get better praise.
To be honest I am not a Chili Peppers fan and I think Frusciante is way overrated. That being said 20K for a beat up stratocaster is ridiculous. This is strictly a collectors guitar and cash grab.
Why is making a guitar for guitar collectors a "cash grab"? Just FYI, these almost always increase in value. Most of these are bought by collectors of Strata, not Chili Pepper fans. They'll probably like the Chiki Peppers, or at least some of their songs but they are buying it because they collect these and can afford it, and it's an investment.
@joshpointoh Fender isn't dumb. They are well aware that based on the law of supply and demand and their well established base of collectors that they can seriously inflate the cost of these guitars hence the cash grab aspect. I am a firm believer in capitalism so I am not saying it is wrong to do this. I am just making an observation.
@stratmagic6893 I’m with you. I bought a Vintage ii ‘61 Strat from Anderton’s, £1849. No way would I spend 10 times that for this guitar even if I had the cash.
There are people who are going to buy all these John has huge following He's not underrated when he is on form he's a Hendrix punk funk player and one of the best he's also got some special weapons for the songs in his tones I agree with you about the price but you wouldn't buy it to play surely you can make your own for a couple grand tops

I’m stoked they released this but I was really hoping for his Tele!
I built a strat based on his Californication era specs and LOVE it.
let's hurry up and get the "more affordable" (Probably still gonna be around $2k) version already!
Probably same price range/quality as the mexican made mike mccready strat

I think if the 3 big albums and that era were Seymours than most of what the price covers is the relicing.
I have no issue with this selling for $20k. RIch ppl exist and this is a collectable. Ppl crying about it, you're not in that bracket. It's not for you
That’s it, they offer plenty of options for those who don’t have a lot of money to spend on a guitar but still want a 60s style strat

He seems to dig in pretty hard in “Can’t stop” though
No, you cannot redo radius to 7.5”, esp. on non-slab fingerboard that was re-radiused before

For 20k, I'll buy 5 and hold for 5 yrs. when they retire and sell it for 350k-600k each But I don't even know how/where to buy it? Do you?

So you're here too :'D
I want to know the neck shape and size.
it’s definitely a cool guitar, and i’m obviously not the target audience cause if i had 20k to spend on whatever i wanted i’d buy a real vintage strat! nevertheless, i enjoy these videos !
If I won the lottery I’d buy it 😊
$20,000?! Holy God, that cost more than my damn car!!! Damnit, I don’t want to take out a second mortgage for a guitar. The hell!
It would be cool if it was "Paul Wall" version and just made the whole thing solid gold.
Does anyone have an ETA on when the Mexican models will be released?

mate how do you think you can undo flattening a fretboard radius?

Can't wait for the John Frusciante Signature Jaguar for 40K :'D
netting $2M USD for ~$75,000 worth of parts and labor is an insane finesse by Fender.
for a 20k john strat I want the real spec pickup's otherwise it makes no sense for me ...johns 62 looked way cooler during californication era. the hum cancelling system is also something I actually don't need 😊
Any demos on this thing released yet i know jhon uses oje of these replica's on stage sometimes

Does he just use 2000’s American standard pickups…?
Celebrity worship is honestly pretty hilarious, rich people will buy anything if you tell them what they wanna hear.
crazy money or im poor af idk
Cosplaying for 20k usd + tax. Guitar players :(
2 000 000$ for 100 pieces of signature wood, nice move Fender
E-Bar-Uh is how you pronounce her name
😂😂😂I bought my fender custom shop 66 stratocaster for 2587 in 2008
Abigail “E- barra”.
I would rather buy a masterbuilt JM strat 😂
the relicing on the production run looks like shit lmao, the mcreedy strat relicing looks immeasurably better for some reason
Then you don’t like the look of John’s strat because they replicated it identically.
i can afford this guitar. step aside peasants!

Sorry but it's just capalist bollox. People consume the shiny thing that has no value.@@joshpointoh

it's pronounced YA-BAR-AH
I would've thought it would be "EE-BAR-AH" but I speak Spanish like Peggy Hill, so my opinion holds no weight.
