His then wife Keely Smith has an amazing voice. Louis started in the 1930’s with his swing band. He and his band did the King Louis song in “Jungle Book”, the Disney animated movie. He was known as the “King of Swing”. More reactors should be listening to him.

Harri, you are missing out. You need to catch the old black and white television videos of Louis Prima and Keely Smith and their band because back in their heyday they and the band liked to "act up", "act out", and "goof around" a bit. They had some showmanship.

It is so much fun to hear all the old greats. Thank you. His wife Keey Smith was a great singer too. You need to find a video of him and his wife singing together. They were very entertaining.

Louis Prima really is the king. He voiced King Louie, King of the Apes in the old Disney Jungle Book. I highly recommend - Banana Split for My Baby!

Louis was the Entertainer's Entertainer. When he appeared in Las Vegas, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis & the other "Rat Pack" members would go to his shows, loving his performance. Btw, the female singer on this song is Louis then-wife Keeley Smith, a very talented lady.

Once you hear this original version, it's somewhat surprising how true to the song David Lee Roth was. I have a lot of nostalgia for Dave's version, but musically this version is better.

David Lee Roth, said that he spoke with Keely Smith ( Louis' ex- wife) for permission to sing the cover the way he did.

Musically better because of Sam Butera who did all the musical arrangements for Louis Prima… Sam was a wild man on the sax 🎷 There’s a great live performance of this on TH-cam

How much fun it would have been to attend one of the Louis Prima & the Witnesses shows in Vegas! They were an absolute riot. In addition to Louis' wife Keely Smith, the band included one of the best sax players of that decade, Sam Butera. From here, you'll want to check out "Jump, Jive 'n' Wail," his late '50s hit that returned to popularity during the late '90s Swing revival. Also "Angelina/Zooma Zooma," which starts off as an Italian tarantella; then "Buona Sera," "Whistle Stop," and "Banana Split For My Baby."

"Just a Gigolo" is a popular song, adapted by Irving Caesar into English in 1929 from the Austrian tango "Schöner Gigolo, armer Gigolo", composed in 1928 in Vienna by Leonello Casucci to lyrics written in 1924 by Julius Brammer.[1][2]

I love how you've taken to our New Orleans music & our musical culture bearers. Louis Prima was a treasure! A few more of his songs I'd suggest include "When You're Smiling", "Buona Sera", "Oh Marie", "Angelina", "You Rascal You", "Sheik of Araby", "Pennies from Heaven", "Bourbon Street Blues", "That Old Black Magic", "Jump, Jive An' Wail", "Poetry In Motion", "Sing Sing Sing", "Basin Street Blues", "Che La Luna" & of course, "I Wanna Be Like You" (from the Disney movie, "The Jungle Book") & his version of "When the Saints Go Marchin' In". This doesn't even scratch the surface of his very prolific career. Enjoy!

Great reaction and choice. Louis Prima became a Las Vegas and nightclub legend with his wildly entertaining act and production during the 1950- 1964 era. Much was not recorded but some of his variety television show appearances have survived. I have always thought that Sonny and Cher stole their act from Prima and his then wife Keely Smith. My father saw them live 3 times and told me that each time they were different because of the ad libs, the obvious ways that Keely Smith would go off script and make everyone laugh and have to change their response, and how much fun the band would play and cause them just to add tunes and lyrics. My father said it was attending the perfect party you would see in a Hollywood musical.

My Pop's played trombone and drums. I grew up listening to three Louies. Louis Armstrong, Louis Jordan and Louis Prima.
The album this is off of was a standard play for my Dad and I to listen to. Now that you have reacted to the album cut check out their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show.

Love the innocence you bring to this with your description of an unwanted entertainer cast aside, as opposed to the slightly more euphemistically worldly take that it is a "male escort" punting for business, lol.

Haha - You mistook Him - Louis for Her - Keely. Anyway You must react to Keely Smith's solo Stuff. Start with "Be My Love" its a wonderful song and shows Her "Velvet Voiced Seduction of Heart and Soul", (My own Line, haha ..) Actually I think Keely Smith had The Absolute Best Female Voice in This Music Category. PS Dont Forget Louis Prima's Giant Hit "Buona Sera! Signorita Buona Sera!"
