Richard's spontaneity absolutely made this show. Just so random that mid-game he plays a pinball machine. And yet it just feels so right that he does. Fantastic host
He wrote one of the most spontaneous and eccentric stageshow/film in history and yet made it seem normal, I agree 100% he makes weird things seem natural so talented
Let’s not forget the infamous harmonica……
Such a shame he didn't want to be associated with the show anymore because he didn't want to be known as "That Crystal Maze Guy" for the rest of his life
The guy who took over was nowhere near as good. This was Richard O'Brien show
Richard O'Brien was the BEST host for Crystal Maze. don't get me wrong but everyone should agree with this.
This is my all-time favourite game show. It was an integral part of my childhood, simply loved it. The puzzles were fantastic and the host with his eccentricity and quirky mannerisms - simply the best.
Loved the game too. Binge watching during lockdown
Richard o brien is the best. So iconic and achieved so much, rocky horror, shock treatment and this of course are just a few things
It was totally epic. Love it to this very day and still watch them! Never get bored of this wonderful show! Richard is pure class!
Aacha..
I love being a 90s kid! In terms of tv and music, was the best decade to be a kid!
As a young American kid who moved to the UK in the early 90s, Crystal Maze and Whose Line is it Anyway were my TV addiction. Ingenious puzzles, and Richard O'Brien's unmatched stage theatrics. I miss it plenty.
I love the fact that the show had very ordinary prize...just to show that contestants are there to have fun and not running for some prize
I always thought in that sense that it was pretty selfish when they just leave their team mates locked in for half a show and therefore miss out. Just buy them out straight away and let them enjoy the day with you, it’s not like the prize is life changing
I wouldn't of bought her out til Zone 4@@NateDynasty
They absolutely were playing it for a bigger prize than just the commemerative crystal though. Thats just the consolation prize, whereas its something else if they win in the dome
dont you miss the days when show contestants were actual people having some other real occupation in their life and not serial reality show contestants
And the rest of the team are actually engaged and not glued to tik toc or taking selfies in each zome and room
They were all civil servants
@timewyrmrevelations7700 Only in season 1 did contestants have any real say in what games were played.
Yep and no tiresome backstory or sentimental BS or crying.
@@Knappa22 You can blame Mark Burnett and Andy Cohen.
Absolutely loved The Crystal Maze. I would watch it everyday after school on challenge. It also introduced me to The Rocky Horror Show.
Indeed
Same , I used watch it way back in the 90s after school
me too
@@coyr2383
Love watching these. The madness of Richard is what makes it great.
Richard O'Brain was the crystal maze
Without him, it just wasn't the same
He enchanted these realms with his personality
When he gets impatient at them being slow my god it's funny lol
Lockdown entertainment for the win
Ed Tudor Pole didn’t do so bad though Richard was defo my favourite host though.
@@vampire7144 his eccentricity worked as much as o Brian
I do love that he kinda created a little story to it also it’s seen more in series 3 and 4 with mumsey being absent and getting back after falling in love with Dwayne who may or may not be the best fit for her as she does lose her clairvoyance a bit and was stood up at her own birthday party by him
Pure nostalgia! Mummy's puzzles were quality too. Excellent show all round 😊
This was such a big part of my childhood. I always wanted to compete in it, and I remember spending a lot of time with my childhood friends at the park playing on the climbing frames, the balance beams, the seesaws, pretending we were playing the Crystal Maze. I adored Richard O'Brien and Edward Tudor Pole as the maze masters, both brought their own unique feeling and spin to the series. It was such a shame when it was cancelled. While Fort Boyard was enjoyable in its own right, it never really held a candle to the Crystal Maze, for me. Sadly, I didn't find the new presenters for the revival quite as enjoyable as the original two maze masters, through to no real fault of their own - they simply had impossible boots to fill, and did very admirably under those circumstances.
Yes it was very good also park of my childhood Many moons ago I'm 40 now I feel very old lol 😆
Love the classic episodes. They haven’t seemed to age !!! 💎💎
The original is the best
Phil Newton-England Made all the better being hosted by the original & still the best, incomparable Reckless Richard O'Brien.
Richard O'Brien is what made the Crystal Maze The new guy in the remake tries to be like ROB, but lacks his flare.
It is true that old seasons are better than new. I was watching it on Saudi Arabia’s Al-Thana TV, following the program from Saudi Arabia
They showed the Crystal Maze in Saudi Arabia? That’s amazing, I never knew that 😁
12:12 The team captain was histerical... 😂😂😂
Richard the epitome of perfection to host a game show. Used to love this on a Thursday night on Channel 4 as I remember. Some games were hard to solve, others easy. Loved the show, sadly missed. Thanks for the uploads, rekindling my youth.
Wasn't looking for this, but during this Coronavirus lockdown...perfect time to binge some nostalgia!
TheAlmightyShroom 😂
TheAlmightyShroom wat me a kid 🥺
I am doing the same. I use to watch this show 5 in the morning with my brother. Brings back lots of memories
Shut the fuck up about the kung flu.
The detailing in every room/game is extraordinary!
What a fun time of our past, we are reliving
truly one of my classic shows. I remember it. :D
It never gets old, the theme song!
Used to watch this on KTV, in Kuwait back in the mid 90s. Good nostalgia and loved all the puzzles
I used to watch this with my siblings when we were younger haha.. from the philippines
Childhood memories associated with this game show. Love to watch it before going to study.
Oooooh man it’s back me to old days where i watch this show at my old tv 🥺💔 وربي قديم ببكي 🥺💔

I never watched this when it was on tv. But, I thoroughly enjoyed this episode! Thank you.
Marylin chetwynd was my maths teacher in 2010. She was very clever and nice but it was a very rough school, felt bad for her having to deal with bad kids
هل مازالت على قيد الحياة
I hardly missed an episode with Richard O'Brien
The biggest reason I was so upset that they stopped making this show was I wanted to be on it and they stopped it before I was old enough.
At least there’s the live experience but probably not the same without richard as host
I never really warmed to Ocean Zone, just as I didn't warm to Ed when Richard left. So when Industrial re-appeared in the current version,I was happy!
What I do love about ocean is that Richard has a reason for its sudden appearance and industrial no longer there. Richard unclogged a drain to find a huge manhole where a submarine was buried in the ocean and he had to dig up industrial to retrieve it and renovate it
Remember watching this as a kid what a great show always fun to watch
Came here after seeing it on Nickelodeon! Never heard of the crystal maze until now! This looks fun!
Adam Conover did an awesome job as Maze Master. I managed to keep a lot of props from the show after filming ended.
@@philnewton-england7795 How do you know The Crystal Maze? Did it air where you come from when you were young?
@@marcusrivera908 Yeah. We had the original series (with Richard O'Brien) shown here in the U.K. back in 1990 - when I was 19 yrs old. I sent some game ideas in to the producers & they used 4 for series 6 (with Ed Tudorpole) then a small group of us were invited to the set to test the games for this new series with Richard Ayoade - the same studios as the American version.
i want to play hide and seek in ALL crystal mazes zones, play and assume like i was on a movie scene. 🤣 this kind of setting for a tv game show is like disneyland for me.
A such nostalgia 😂
34:40 the Sikh guy smashed it! Knows his electronics
Regarding the first game, in this day and age, I think Richard Ayoade would allow them to stop the clock as long as they were at the bottom of the ladder. Health and safety is paramount and if they were shown to have neglected this there would be trouble. As for the reboot, I enjoy it for the very fact that Richard Ayoade makes it as quirky as the original in his own way. We all wondered when we were watching this as kids whether a team would ever finish the game with zero crystals, and what RO'B would have done in that situation. Ayoade handled it with his own humour.
I used to have the video game version of this, made by Superior Software, which was made just as the Ocean Zone was coming in. And now they even have the Crystal Maze board game - which, having been created prior to the introduction of the Eastern Zone, was even brought out with an Eastern Zone expansion pack!
Ayoade is just dry, the cane with the hand is too much. Richard and Edward had energy, pep and the buzz a gameshow host needs especially for a kinetic show like this. Richard Ayoade seems to yawn through his episodes and it is infuriating.
@@SantomPh Sure. Nothing to do with what I said, but... sure.
@@bobomb1986 That's really interesting, yes, you wouldn't want people rushing up the ladder. Good thought!
@@fredh1720 I know the words "health and safety" are derided, but you wouldn't want someone to injure themselves unnecessarily. In my opinion, they should be allowed to tap the top of the ladder twice just as they would knock on the door if they could reach.
my favourite program...of childhood...it came on starplus Chanel....it was 1992..93...we all friends saw every day after my school in the evening.....nice memories......love u....🥳💞❤🌹👌👌👌😘😘😘😘👍👍👍😊😊😊😊
I also watch this on Star Plus in 1993 with family. Sweet memories
13:50 The sets get better every series, now with the stepping stones
If I was ever a billionaire, I will basically recreate the whole crystal maze and probably add 20 other zones, can't understand why a billionaire has not done this, yah Mr beast did it, but that was cheap
@@shazanali692 Let Elon Musk know, he might be interested.
They really should bring back this show.
They did, but it got cancelled again
I used to watch this on Star World with my late grandpa. Good times.
Who else is binge watching
Richard should have stayed for the last 2 years it would have made it the best programme ever
You can see he was getting quite bored in series 4 and most of what he does on there was complete improv and hard to create new jokes and stories. He didn’t want to just be known as the crystal maze guy so he agreed to do one more series and even made a cool little story to wrap up his time in the maze
as much as I hate Dwayne for potentially leading mumsey on and standing her up on her own birthday I think it was a good explanation for Richards departure
I think Richard didn’t say it was the finale in the outro of the last episode as he wanted to make his departure special and have it at the beginning of the Christmas special
Best game show there will ever be. Such nostalgia!
The Crystal Maze such a genius idea for a show Richard O Brien has this wit about him he really is so funny

Think of it this way: Escape rooms about two decades before esacpe rooms were cool.
Also the non violent version of Saw
Love Richard playing pinball so random so Richard!
Amazing game ......
i thank my national TV to aired this. simply amazing show.
It was also aired in Zimbabwe
bring this back please
Once Richard O'Brien left the show it just wasn't the same & the rating's declined which ultimately lead to it's cancellation in 1995
He was the show, without him it was boring
I love this show soooooo much ❤
Omg this takes me right bk to my childhood
In my childhood it's my favourite show
Good luck😘👍
I used to watch crystal maze when i was a little kid... And love it. But now, i can see most of the players are so clumsy on skill and physical games...😅
I love how most of these people are around my age yet they just look so much older because 90s 😂
انت كم عمرك ؟
من أجمل البرامج المفضلة لدي كانت في مرحلة الطفولة👌
@22:22 "Debbie! I've come to buy you! .... out" HAHA
That intro hits home haha
For the electrical circuit game, he could have isolated the negative pole first before placing the connections, then there would be no danger of a short circuit.
Fantastic
Sold my best of crystal maze vhs tape the other day am missing it now.
One of the best show in 90s in india.
I wish this man would do a one last show
If each zone is a different period in history, I'm surprised that Richard never at any point proclaimed: 'Let’s do the Time Warp again!'
He did say time is fleeting in series 3 a few times so intentional or accidental reference perhaps
0:12 Which Episode Is This From?
I love Richard O Brian to host again
The best show i can tell
I miss this
The Crystal Maze was never the same without Richard O'Brien.

if debbie was kept locked in, it would've been fun.
Wish they had the month and year aired :D
You can find out on IMDb.
Mouth
@@Comical_LLama Thanks mom D
1993 is definitely the year this episode was aired, but it very difficult to determine which month it was
I hate that game with the leaf blower ! I can’t think if anyone ever beat it.
Only in the kids edition where Richard accepted only one color
I always thought Richard was gay. He's not, he's married with a family.
I didn't know that.
@@ramblingrob4693 Well he was married, divorced now I think.
He's trans.
He’s bisexual I believe
He has always been queer as in today’s standards he’s considered nonbinary but I don’t think he uses any label other than transgender at times. (He has a very outdated mindset as he believes trans people are a third gender) Richard just identifies as Richard
He does kinda flirt with some of the male players he calls everyone baby and dear and kisses one of the guy players on the cheek (even if it does just mean endearment in some places) so do with that what you will
i 1st saw it up my nans house then watched it all the time from then on
funny when this show has its little moments that predates modern health & safety so well, the bamboo floor traps are cut at an angle and the safety hooks are without latches... no way you would get away with this now
I worked in production, albeit not of this show, but I guarantee you there’s no one on this planet more concerned with safety than a film or a television production team. If a safety measure isn’t visible to you it’s because part of our job is disguising it! But trust me, and this goes double for a well-financed production: when you’re beneath lights which could crush you, surrounded by cables which could electrocute you, you make everybody’s safety your top concern.
The “bamboo” is undoubtedly rubber tubing, in other words, and perfectly safe … but painted to look like bamboo.
In fact, after closer inspection, I can now guarantee they’re rubber: you can see one “bamboo spike” clearly bend when the contestant accidentally presses it with her foot!
The bamboo sticks were indeed rubber & the wooden spikes from the Medieval crossover area were polystyrene. I was lucky enough to keep a few props after working on the show.
I bet you're fun at parties
I was hoping this program would not return again
The old season is much better
from Saudi Arabia
23:28 This game is soooo scary and this moment when she unhook herself had she fallen it would be the end of her
Jeez... why did they bring Dippy Debbie along?! 😂
Why they dont play this game now, this is very atrractive & enjoy to watch
Guys Help,, What epiosde of THE CRYSTAL MAZE that has a task almost similar to the SQARE MAZE challenge of TAKESHI'S CASTLE
That theme tune dang.
I hope the crystal maze this game show will be reboot in Taiwan , will to be extra crystal dome
Those were the time when video games were played in real. And watched by us on tv 😅
Like this program ❤️❤️

In this channel? Amazing!
Did you jump, ABOUT 34:21
20:53 the real-world danger in this room is off the chart. Can't believe this, even if the bamboo things might be rubber.
35:10 Camera crew on the other end!!!
3:16 The best graphic by MILES
Saya sd nonton acara ini tiap sore tvri
Daljit shoulda been an electrician xD
Has anyone realized the Martin Lewis the Martin Lewis was a contestant on this show
How are you
Haha omg this cheeky ass dude
the host of the show feels like he has been involved in making the games and the entire show structure. doesn't feel like just some actor hired to be anchor and handed down lines by behind-camera people.
He really does. I love that he kinda created a little story and made the maze feel alive and that he did actually live there. Even with him gone people can still build up that story and make up all sorts of stuff with Richard and Mumsey in the maze
16:38 he would’ve run out of balls.
I love he drags people and runs, you couldn't do that nowadays
Also couldn’t hug and kiss them on the cheek either. A later episode in series 4 he spanks a guy kinda which would’ve been a no no today
What made Richard loveable was his natural charm and him flirting kinda with the players
