Justin and Gerry decide to settle their dispute over who the best Bake Off presenters are with a game of Bolt Action from Warlord Games.
Gerry defends the honour of Sandi and Noel through the Soviet forces whilst Justin represents the glory of Mel and Sue with the American army. The objective for each player is to reach their opponent's command centre at the other side of the board and blow it up. The question is who can manoeuvre their force to the other side without getting pinned down?
What unit on the board do you think would make the best cake?

They might need to brush up on the rules the next time they play though.
You need to be playing a rule set at least twice a month to be completely familiar with it. I enjoyed the video anyway.

One suggestion for you when you film games. Try doing a worm's eye view of the board to get us a idea of seeing what you're seeing when you get low. Doesn't Warren have cam for that?

The random turn mechanic by drawing dice out of a bag is insane lol. I kind of like that mechanic...does flames of war use a similar mechanic?
No, Flames of war has the I do my stuff then you do your stuff. More of a standard affair really

Americans have the fire & maneuver rule meaning many weapons don’t suffer the -1 for an Advance when shooting. Also, the Americans are only allowed one Jeep with an MG because when armed, jeeps are in the Armored Car slot and its only 1 armored car per platoon.
Blipvertus That rule is only for armoured jeeps. You can put as many unarmoured jeeps with MG’s as you want in your transport slots, but they loose their transport ability.
@@pbeccas Blipvertus is actually right, any transports that loses its transport/tow capabilities from being upgunned is then considered an armored car in the force organization chart. I can't remember if it's in the Rulebook or in a FAQ but I am 300% sure that's how it works. Feel free to research it
Americans don't have penalties for moving and shooting on BAR's and rifles.

About to play our first game this coming weekend so very novice on the rules but why were no morale checks performed when the sniper and other small teams lost 50%?, I thought once you reached half a morale check had to be made to stay on the table or is that wrong? I notice the kenny rogers looking guy didnt do any for his groups?
Bit late of a reaction and you've probably figured it out yourselves by now, but they are classified as team based weapons, meaning that if 1 of then dies, they all die

"like thats gunna happen" ahem, in syria theres a clip of some faction or another sneaking up on a T72 and lobbing a grenade down the barrel after it fired resulting in it touching off the magazine
Im an ex tanky, that sounds very dubious. To start there is a flash extractor half way down the barrel on a T72 and secondly the magazine is not directly connected to the barrel to prevent anything rolling out of the barrel into it. And lastly, have you ever tried throwing anything down a 14ft pipe, its not going to happen. Quite probably some silly propaganda video made by the towly ban.

Why did the Sherman MMG only fire 4 dice per MMG and the T 34 5 dice per MMG ?.
Both should have been 5 dice.
At 1:06:10 why did the mortar get a +2 to kill? (2 and up) should it not have been the standard value for regular troops? (4 and up)

Are infantry Tank Assaults 1 & done? Couldn't the Soviets of had 2 more attempts to take down the Sherman with some lucky dice draws from the bag on the next turn after the one you ended on? Or am I forgetting a specific detail of the mission?

I don’t know about Jerry being robbed, but Justin did a good job of robbing himself. The Sherman can potentially have 10 shots, 5 from the hull mounted MMG and 5 from the co-ax. MMG get 5 shots in second edition. US troops armed with rifle and BAR do not take a penalty for moving and firing. So for most of the time you would have scored many more hits Justin. Love the game however, and would like to see more Bolt Action.

What a nice batrep! But please please please stop repeating myths from Enemy at the gates.
I had heard about that "myth" years before "enemy at the gates" came out so I guess it predates the film by a good 15years at least. I'm sure I read about it in a book about Stalingrad so either which mentioned NKVD shooting Soviet troops if they tried to retreat so I'm guessing that's where the film got the idea from.
For the Americans first shots of the game you would of killed the sniper team. US troops don’t suffer the movement penalty unless it’s a LMG.
When wounding on 6’s you reroll then to see if you get exceptional damage and the medics can’t roll to save on exceptional damage. But you guys at least caught that right after.
On moral checks you don’t run away if you fail one. The whole squad is disbanded and is taken off the table and is counted as a kill for the other team. But you seemed to catch that one too as I continue to watch. Ha.
When hitting vehicles only indirect open top vehicles get the +1 on the damage chart. This was direct fire so that does not apply here.
Not sure where you get 4 shots for the American from. Unless it’s an LMG on the Jeep.
On the air strike you kind of messed that up. You forgot to place what direction the aircraft will come in at. That matters, check the rules.
When the tank shot at the sniper it was supposed to be 5 shots for an MMG. That rule has been messed up a couple times now.
You do draw a dice from the bag for defensive fire.
When shooting that Jeep, especially at the end I have no idea what you guys were doing!
The Zis gun should of shot HE instead of AP at infantry, I’m not sure why you would do that. And when 2 of the crew died fro that mortar a moral check was needed.

Enjoy the game but one problem is that this could only happen after the Germans surrendered in which the soviets would use IS-3s and a few T-44s also the infantry would be consisted of veterans and trained units. But no matter love the show and good day

A friend of mine ha been trying to get me interested in playing BA. After watching this game all I have to say is NOPE. What a boring game, no maneuvering no tactics, no tension and no excitement. I'll stick with what I've been playing.
jdg - Can only agree with you. Played games like this when I was aged 12: directionless, plodding and very unsatisfying: put me off WW2 for several decades. BA seems to bear little resemblance to twentieth-century warfare: might work though for Crimean War, American Civil War or earlier.
And what have you been playing?
BA is imo one of the most tactical and interesting systems out there (at least among the more popular mainstream games) perhaps it was this matchup/scenario/players that you didnt fancy.
@@-Markus- I have no interest in getting into an internet furball over wargame rules just expressing my opinion. I'm glad you've found rules that you like and find interesting, I don't find them to be either. The game I play is a constant attempt to try and overcome the friction both the fiction of war as well as your opponent. I've watched several games of BA and none of them have appealed to me. And the game that I play is one of the most popular surprisingly popular considering that it doesn't have a major figure producing company behind it.
