    The chatting is some of the best part! You mix it well. Or just do twice as much and split it into info and visiting blogs. But, I bet, most like the integration between the farming community people and the livestock/produce information. Seeing the different levels of stock compared to the big show coming up, the children enjoying their family's production and being proud, is quite enjoyable.

    The Blue Texel sheep breed was first recognized and recorded as a distinct breed during the early 1970s in the Netherlands. Natural colored “blue” Texel sheep were accidentally born to a purebred Texel dam and sire. The unique coloration was of immediate interest to breeders who made deliberate matings to encourage the recessive gene expression. By 1983, there were 11 flocks of Blue Texels in Holland, numbering 213 total “blue” colored Texels.

    Great start to the year - it's amazing just how much you miss the " show " of the animals, but also the social side of a show. Farming is and can be so isolating for someone, so even if you are not exhibiting or participating in the actual show, meeting and speaking to someone you might only see in person once a year can only be good for a person's mental health. Think you got the balance just right Cammy - or edited just right👍🏻😂!

    I loved seeing the hand spinner, too. I've been spinning for almost 50 years, and it's wonderful when younger folks are interested in carrying the art forward. We used to have sheep to shawl competitions years ago at a sheep festival here in Missouri. Teams would spin raw fleece into yarn and weave a shawl on a loom all in one day. Fun!

    • @patpierce4854
      @patpierce4854 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Nope. The long-eared sheep - with the ears that stick up like a rabbit, and always have a surprised expression on their faces, are Border Leicesters. Yes, they are related to the Blue Faced Leicesters that are used so often for breeding various Mule sheep.

    I personally enjoy the fast paced videos as well as the slow ones. They really give a taste of what farming is actually like. And I love hearing your interviews with people. I was thinking Cammy, watching you're other videos as well as this one, and I think it would be cool to see you shear a Navajo Churro sheep. It's a native breed to the USA and Mexico, so it may not be easy or possible, but it would be interesting. Anyway, great video, loved it, keep it up!

    Really enjoyed the vlog as usual. I can almost feel those fleeces. When you have some time(!) after shearing your own, how about inviting your local spinners' group to have a pick and explain the process? You could always follow a fleece from sheep to finished item. I'd be knocking on your door if i were in Scotland. Cheviot's pretty good spinning fleece and the (discarded) Valais X Jacobs looked lovely.

    • @ragnkja
      @ragnkja 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      And for outerwear it’s actually a good thing that the fleece is a bit hairier than the pure wool that’s all the rage for all clothes these days. The hair makes it better at shedding water, especially if the fibres on the surface of the garment have been brushed to lie smoothly the right way.

    Maggie is my kinda lady. I’m also a fleece spinner and a crazy chicken lady for sure. Would love to meet her.

    Superb again Cammy, always a pleasure to watch.
    Just watched the Landward from last night there too, and those young lads were superb. Still a shame that the branding was blurred out, but hey ho

    "Blue" when referring to a domestic animal usually refers to a grey shade of color, usually caused by a combination of white and black hairs (wool in the case of those sheep). An example of a "blue" domestic animal is the Archangel Blue cat which is a slate grey. The Blue Texels there look as if they just don't have much white mixed in the black.

      I was going to say, if sheep were anything like dogs, "blue" just means a mixture of white and black hairs, but you beat me to it!
