I nearly piddled in my pants when I saw A Little Life. A wonderful story. Regarding 18th Century novels, I’ve read The Monk by Matthew Lewis which was... peculiar 😂 A lot was going on in those pages! My MA was on Romanticism (a focus on Shelley & Byron), did you study any poetry around that time?
You have made me very interested in Parallel Lives! I'm also intrigued by the cover change of Pachinko - I am much more drawn to the original version, as I find it more artistic (and also very similar to the acclaimed Do Not Say We Have Nothing). I had to buy that edition before it could go out of print.
That edition of Wuthering Heights is so so beautiful!!! That book is really great, I am thinking in read it again :) I am very intrigued about George Eliot's book. Since I read A Room of One's Own I want to know more about that author. Maybe it is going to be the next in my reading list.
I also have black and British and really must get to it! I need to really kick myself into gear and get into more history. I have been enjoying learning more about black history and I enjoyed learning history at school, but yeah, bringing them together is a great motivation for me to get more involved, and unbury my head from the fantasy I read! The folio editions look beautiful and that blooper was so funny
I have been looking for a bookish person I've felt connected to, that is into classics and hauls them. I would love to know more about 1800 erotica, I would love recommendations and, your views in regards to that category within literature.
A Litte Life is a really marmite book as far as I can tell, everyone I know who has read it either loved it or hated it, I haven't met anyone that fell somewhere in between (I've met a lot of people who dnf-ed it, too). I personally will never read it because there are some trigger warnings that affect me deeply. I can handle a depressing book but not in the particular way that A Little Life is depressing.
That Folio edition of Wuthuring Heights! 😍Ooh I've seen a few people reading Natives recently and I've heard nothing but praise, definitely one I need to pick up soon!
Thanks for enlightening me on folio editions I didn’t even know that was a thing! Do you have any advice for how to adjust to the old style prose and language in these 18th century novels? P.s. I love your videos, so intelligent. Just really great content.
"All the books I bought in lockdown" and there's only three in the thumbnail? I don't believe you HAHAHA
The first thing I thought when you held up Roxanna was Emma Angeline. It's going to be great to hear your opinion as well!
I was looking for a channel like yours for a long time! :)
Great haul, I’ll look forward to the videos that will be spawned by these books ☺️

I feel like Gone With The Wind is staring at me from the background!

I'm reading Black and British at the moment and you're so right, it's so good!!!
I know it doesn't have anything to do with the video, but I love your hair and makeup! 😍
And the color of the shirt fits her so well! :)
18th century erotica sounds so fascinating!!! 😂 fab haul Claire!
Very keen to see the video suggestions you talked about. More people need to talk about 18th century lit
Yep! I agree with you.
Classics need to be discussed.

Woolf wrote a nice essay on de Montaigne in The Common Reader :) I really want to read it. I loved Mill on the Floss :)
Wow love all the new books. And your new video ideas. So exciting.
I loved Parallel Lives. It was fascinating to see the contrasts between the marriages she explores.

For me, I read classics slower than I would contemporary. If you get stuck, do not hesitate to read chapter summaries on sparknotes to help! 🙂
Glenda Bourne thank you, I read then very slowly so glad I’m not the only one. Will check those out!
Nooooo!! Not A Little Life pleasee. Sad is one thing and torture porn is quite another. A Little Life is the latter. Don't ruin your mental health.
