It was done this way round to avoid have a shunt release loco which would have been needed if using the High Level station. It made for some good filming down here though.....
Wow a trip down memory lane indeed. 37's doing the oban/Mallaig routes, a 303 (sadly the modernised one) and Queen St as she was before they changed the lighting & seating. Thanks for the upload.
Not many diesel workings use the Low Lever though, i have been on the occasional railtour that's gone that way + the loco hauled that's seen in the vids. I would imagine the odd engineers trains may pass that way when required but mostly electrics due to the fumes.
Soi Buakhao I had forgotten about the sleeper going that way. I’m pretty sure there’s a video on TH-cam somewhere of a preserved Deltic, of all things, passing light through Queen St LL. But as you say diesel hauled trains that way are pretty rare.
Deltics are hellfire! A mate of mine has managed to sign them (along with the Western & class 40s) so gets to drive them occasionally. To think he once kissed D9000 on the stops at Kings Cross in 1982, to ending up driving her is quite something!
It's really strange to see a class 37 in the Queen street tunnel, especially alongside the class 320 which is still a regular sight albeit in a different livery, does anyone have any info on what services the 37's operated via the low level?
Superb, the last time I was on low level we where waiting for the LCGB Three Lochs tour to take us back to Liverpool. We class 40 to Preston, Class 84 to Mossend Yard pair of 20's took the tour to Crianlarich and returned via low level to Mossend Yard
Great to see this nostalgic video 😊. I’ve noticed that the cutting at the western end of the low level platforms seemed to be covered up; do you have any info on that?
The Low Level line is actually in tunnel from High Street to west of Charing Cross. There are odd uncovered places where the smoke would escape from, bearing in mind this was seam worked until the Glasgow Blue Train electrics started running around 1960 time.
@@SoiBuakhaoRoutemasterbus Ah right. Today's scene at the low level is much different compared to that of the old days; the 320s are still working on the route along with the 318s and 334s. However the scene was much interesting between March and August 2016 when the closure of Queen Street Tunnel resulted in the Edinburgh via Falkirk High, Stirling, Alloa and Dunblane services being diverted to the low level platforms and the sight of 156s, 158s and 170s there was quite extraordinary!
This is gold. I've never seen the Oban train from the low level before. Thanks for sharing this😃

I bet the English Electric 12CSVT diesel prime mover sounded awesome in the tunnels!

Something a bit different, a loco hauled train on the low level!...
Soi Buakhao this is very true & it would be very loud down there lol, wonder why they didn't go up the usual way that day (east field & Westerton)
Great video as usual. Very interesting seeing the 37s thrashing away in the relatively tight confines of the low level platforms. 👍🏻
Ross 30453 the sleeper calls at the low level platforms

Glasgow central low level is rather for diesel s and is fully enclosed

Another great video.
Thank you.....still plenty more to come.....

It was a summer dated service from Oban to Queen St Low Level, Up in the morning and back Down road in the early afternoon.
3:04 side engine room door open. wonder if there's an alarm in the cab to notify the driver?
Nope! It may well have been left open to let a bit more aie into the engine room..... or just a cock-up which is more likely!
Simply amazing
Probably not much seen of the Low Level at either Queen Street or Central.
Nice Scottish Highland name on the loco!🙂
Great Video
Thanks.

Superb footage of chunkies again, do you have out from Manchester Peak Forest back then chief?
Sadly, no. I never got to Peak Forest. I do have 37s thrashing in & around Manchester and Derby (amongst other traction) but never got to PF.
Soi Buakhao ah I see 😪 Manchester and Derby sounds good are they on yet chief?
I'll see if i can put some Derby shots up before i'm away in early Nevember. They were taken back in 1992 so there's some good stuff on there!
