First time touring properly since the 'dark times'. Dave is healthy again and his voice is great but I think he's rebuilding his stage confidence. I saw DM on that tour at Wembley a couple of months prior to this performance, and they were great. I was so happy they were back. Dave went from strength to strenghth confidence wise after.
Love how they borrowed bits from the 1993/1994 live version. Dave's voice is pretty spot on here. I guess performing only one song on a stage for TV means you can sing better than when you're jumping around and dancing at the audience for over an album's worth of songs on multiple nights. Dave's voice sounds most controlled in the 90s. It was also alright in the Delta Machine tour but I'm not sure what happened in the most recent DM tour. In Your Room has consistently been one of Dave's best performed songs though in my opinion.
IN your Room “We would usually reach a consensus to form a short-list of potential singles,” Alan explained. “For example, Higher Love was on this list for the SOFAD singles but never made it and there were differences of opinion about in which order they should appear. Dave felt very strongly that Condemnation should have been the first single but he was outvoted. I wanted Walking in My Shoes as a second single and got my way but I really wanted the original version of In Your Room [instead of the Zephyr Mix.] This is all a good example of the problems of democracy - somebody usually ends up disappointed.”
Absolutely true I remember seeing them touring in 2001 in support for exciter and it (his voice) was night n day. I always loved this record and wondered why it never really got the credit it deserved. Seems that has changed over the years. Black Celebration thru exciter was a their peak and a amazingly strong 6 album arc over 16years. Exciter came out 21 years ago yesterday. I'm 57yo and a dm lifer.
This song still amazing in 2020 and even this live version from 98 is terrific although nothing beats the devotional live version for this track......I liked all the versions since singles/Exciter/PTA tour/SOTU/Delta and Spirit but nothing beats In your Room 1993 Devotional tour. In fact 1993-2005 the best Depeche EVER!!!! The 90's are underrated for DM Violator/SOFAD and Ultra are 3 of their Top 5 Records. The other 2 being Music for the masses and Playing the Angel which is #1 of all time.
Gracias.
God damn, thank you thank you thank you so much Mr Gore. for your music, it means so much to me. lol I think you wrote walking in my shoes for me. in my room is like one of my favorite songs ever and I actually cry when I hear, home. thank you for touching my life
In your room Where time stands still Or moves at your will Will you let the morning come soon Or will you leave me lying here In your favourite darkness Your favourite half-light Your favourite consciousness Your favourite slave In your room Where souls disappear Only you exist here Will you lead me to your armchair Or leave me lying here Your favourite innocence Your favourite prize Your favourite smile Your favourite slave Im hanging on your words Living on your breath Feeling with your skin Will I always be here In your room Your burning eyes Cause flames to arise Will you let the fire die down soon Or will I always be here Your favourite passion Your favourite game Your favourite mirror Your favourite slave Im hanging on your words Living on your breath Feeling with your skin Will I always be here
That makes sense except for the living on your words, hanging on your breath, feeling with your skin. Will I always be here? I figured it was about sex. More specifically sex with someone and not being able to commit except for that little bit while having sex. Just my interpretation
Kostas Krideras I will respectfully disagree with you my friend, although he does still have a very good singing voice nowadays,he's been past his peak for for quite some time now.Look at a concert live from delta machine in 2015 then compare it to a live concert from songs of faith and devotion from 1993 and you'll see what I'm talking about.
My opinion is: his voice started to be mature during Ultra. He has grown mentally and physically since addiction and it's normal people aging. So his voice is too mature to sing that high pitch when he was in his 20s-30s. And don't blame him he took drugs. It doesn't metter at all. I like his deep voice and I admire him he can handle touring :)
Me no likey this easy listening version - the epicness of this masterpiece is completely lost, sounds like elevator music:(. Dave did clean up nicely though and seemed so careful and mellow in this performance, like a child who's just had a bad fall off his bike and is holding on to dear life as he gets up and tries again. What a difference that certain someone makes, not naming any names but the initials are A and W. And funny hearing someone sir ing Dave.
Since this is from "The Singles 86-98", this is the single version, which was actually released while a certain someone with initials A.W. was still in the band. But yeah, the more they continued on without him, the more it's clear what a difference he made.
Is that so? I kinda stopped following them in the nineties. Why on earth would one bust one's but to record such an epic song (on the album) then release a watered down version as a single? Was it supposed to be more radio friendly? Ah such is music business politics.
I stopped following them really closely after Ultra, only because I went and served as a Mormon missionary for two years in Brazil, and when I got back, the internet made it possible for me to experience all sorts of worldwide music, so I really wasn't following any one band that closely anymore. But I've kept track of what they were doing. It's good, but it was better when Alan was still in the band.
To compare it to another famous band: listening to Depeche Mode with Alan Wilder is like listening to Genesis. Listening to Depeche Mode after Alan Wilder is like listening to Phil Collins solo.
For me, it's more due to growing up and life getting more complicated. I stopped following all my favorite bands: DM,U2, New Order, Echo and TBM...then again could also be because I lost interest as by then, most of these bands, to me, were finished - they were no longer interesting. Now that the dust have settled and I have more time to enjoy music, thanks to the internet, I'm able to continue where I left off with all my favorite bands. And I gotta say, 80's music truely rocked, now when I turn on the radio, I just go Ugh, and turn on my iPod instead. As for Genesis, sorry I don't quite grasp the analogy because as you can see, I'm more of a new wave person, lol.
Why do you people blame on Exciter so much?I think,in terms of production and sounding its way better than Hillier's PTA/SOTU/DM.It's not so overdestortionised and rhytmless as last 3 albums are.Mark Bell did a good job.
Let's just take a moment to absorb the depth of those vocals
Dave finally cut his hair and actually has that 1986 look just 10 years older here.
He looks and sounds excellent. Best IYR performance since Exotic in '94.
First time touring properly since the 'dark times'. Dave is healthy again and his voice is great but I think he's rebuilding his stage confidence. His voice sounds great here
He looks so good here. He was at his prime here IMO
Absolutely a MASTERPIECE of quality music. I ❤️D🌹M!!!!!!
I love them, too. Truly incredible voices and music.
Masterpiece ❤
Go shit with your Satanic fucked up music and their stupid lyrics! bitches
an interesting live version. dave's voice still pretty smooth.
My all time favourite Depeche Mode Track
I totally agree, always gives me goosebumps
live 1993 unbeatable... best DM song and masterpiece

I didn't know Christian and Peter have been playing live with DM for over 20 years
IN your Room

By the way ! Andy’’s keyboard is turned off here
Without Alan... they cannot create great music.
Great version with the backup singers!
I cannot resist. The singer at around, say, 3:39. Such a beautiful voice and such a beautiful face.
I miss those two girls on their sets, they were realy great support!
Wow, Wow...superb performance
This was the PEAK of Dave's voice imo. I don't think it's ever sounded as good since.

MASTERPIECE!!!!!!!!
Amazing performance great vocal arrangement nice organic soulful quality not over produced and polished..Thanks for sharing!
God I love them and this song
3:08 i love this version because of it... usually he doesn't sing "Will I always be here" during live but he did it this time...❤
Proof that fletch does play
Gracias.
So great back vocals
Stupenda versione live....❤️🔝
Hated them back late 80s, i was into metal hardrock( I am still)....since 10 years ago have become my second favourite band...!
Magnificient arrangement for a diffucult song to sing. Bravo to all of them❤
non è una canzone difficile da cantare.
Love how you can see fletch actually playing
I love this amazing short Version, what a final. Depeche Mode am Zenit!!

Que solida presentación de DM 💪🎸👏🎤
Why don´t they use their background singers anymore? They gave so much to Depeche! Any how - The best band in the world! :)
Because martin is good enough :) just saying
it's better when it's just them, I don't like it when bands add backup singers they don't need.
Money I guess
@@pelgervampireduck Devotional was great with them! They gave that Gospel-vibe & darkness even more.
@@samilamppu104 Devotional is good, I agree, but I wish it was just them.

MAGNIFIQUE !!!
So good

Brilliant! And good to see Scandinavian subtitles making a comeback.

i love them to such great memories.
Well done …

👏👏👏 😍 Wonderful
one of the best versions, thanks to thei then influence from ultra
Omg his voice
best version
Electrónica rock y gospel. DM te adoramos en 🇨🇱
EXCELLENT 😅
I LOVE DM !
"where souls disappear...only you exist here"
Daves darkest and most intimate confession to being a slave to heroin
It is written by Martin Gore.
That makes sense except for the living on your words, hanging on your breath, feeling with your skin. Will I always be here?
I figured it was about sex. More specifically sex with someone and not being able to commit except for that little bit while having sex.
Just my interpretation
@@badground3534 If I'm not mistaken In your room is about when Martin had his baby daughter
Possibly. Seems like the chorus and some of the lyrics are kinda sexual though
@@badground3534 Probably both, yes. As I've read even Martin is a little confused about it.
Peak of Dave's voice is now... honestly, he's never sung better on any other album than on Delta Machine
Totally agree with you!
+Kostas Krideras (MADSilencerr)Totally disagree with you! It sounds terrible on their last albums, he is forcing his voice too much.

3:57 ...thank you Sr...
a pretty mellow and inert performance by Dave’s standards
I bet when Dave Gahan is out and hears a song he likes he starts dancing
God, he looks good. And thank God or whomever that he’s still here….
Where is third verse? "In your room Your burning eyes..."
Probably had to truncate it to perform on Letterman.
RIP Fletch
Oh... No ... PEAK of Dave's Voice was 1989 "101" this was realy Great Voice...
Josh Molot ®1974 101 was in 1988😂

Naaaah, no puede ser esta canción
It's missing the heart of Alan Wilder.
DM hasn't been the same with out him.
Alan Wilder means so much to DM fans
They were in such a poor state after Alan left. It just shines through.
That jazzy piano and the backing vocals with the bonjovi drumming is pure nonsense.....
