Just saying when the game shows the purse it’s the total purse of the race not not winners purse and this goes for every series in this game and the winner gets 1/5 of the total purse so that might help on how much money you will get if you win a race Edit: I said this last video but 2 seconds later this video came out so I posted it here
Recently began a play through of this, never played it before. Definitely a great game. Btw aero and suspension seem to help more. I finished 7th in points with just those upgrades and no engine stuff
Just a tip that I find helps me is not using the analog for braking, use square instead because the ps2 buttons are pressure sensitive and I tend to be smoother with it
Light damage is probably the way to go, at least while you're in an underpowered car. You also have to continue to race and dominate the dirt series to make money unless you want to languish and struggle for five seasons in the mods. Have to do the same with mods when you move to trucks etc. The game is designed assuming you will.

I wonder if the reason it broke so easy in that last race is because you totaled it in the rsce prior. Like, basically, you fixed it up, but, it didn't fully recover because it's the only engine you've got
Make the track bar number smaller to loosen it up, plus wedge makes it tighter, minus makes it loose. Smaller final gear ratio means higher top speed but worse acceleration and higher means lower top speed higher acceleration. Lower the wing angle for higher top speeds at the expense of making the car looser. I hope this helps you out some!
