  • This is a video showing the problems i have connecting my Teckin Smart Switches after an update from the Smart Life App... They used to work perfectly before but after an update of Smart Life, I could not load my Smart Switches anymore?! I made a new user on the Smart Life App, Deleted my old user and reset all the switches to make sure they were not connecting to my network.

Not sure if this will work for you but it worked for me with a Wi-Fi switch: try holding on the reset button until the light blinks slowly. Then, the device will ask you to connect to it own Wi-Fi name like SL-07 or something. Once you connect to this with your phone, the device then connects to the 2.4ghz Wi-Fi of your choosing. I had the same endless connectivity issue and this solved it for me.

Perfect!!! Always try the 'blink slowly' option followed by reconnecting to normal wifi after about 20 seconds when the blinking stops

Most annoying thing I have ever owned. Constantly resetting, setting and resetting - all my 24 Wi-Fi devices. They stop working without warning. It became a full time job. Kinda wonder, why in 2023 the set up is not fully automatic. Super frustrating ...

This app is garbage. All my devices can't be found, this app uses a cloud registration. When their servers are down you can't do anything. Makes zero sense

This was driving me insane. But i solved it for me. I have a new mesh network, i plugged in to an outlet closest to the main router to configure and add to smart life. Worked immediately. After setup i moved it to it's permanent location (near a mesh satellite) and is stable.

If you have a newer xfinity router and need to connect to the 2.4 gHz for the smart devices to work: I logged into the xfinity app and, after some time, found where I could give the 2.4 and 5 gHz networks different names. [Select "View network details" then the edit pencil on the top right]. I changed the name of the 5gHz network (not the password), setup the smart plugs using the in app instructions and then changed the name of the 5gHz back to the original name. I was really struggling with setup and was considering replacing all of our smart plugs so I hope this helps someone.

      This seems shady.

    • @jakris20071

@clydejones5130 Unsure why you'd think that, but do whatever you've figured out works best for you and your situation or consult a professional. It's merely editing the name that you initially created ... then changing the name back to what it was before so that all other devices on your network don't have to be updated to the new name. I.e. if you set it as "mynetwork" during initial setup, change it to "mynetwork2" so that you can add smart devices that require the 2.4 network, then change it back to "mynetwork". The router and devices then toggle between the necessary gHz as needed without further intervention. (My minor was in computer engineering so that may be part of why I don't see this as anything to worry about.)

    INFO:
All smart (wifi) devices need a 2.4 GHz wifi network because the range is bigger then the 5 GHz wifi network. The 5 GHz is more stabil but got a shorter range.
    THE PROBLEM :
Your modem is sending 2 signals; 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz. But you need to setup your smart device with a 2.4 GHz wifi network. That is what your Smart Life app is asking.. But the 5 GHz is disturbing the whole setup.
    THE SOLUTION :
    1. Go to your modem settings on the internet page of your provider. Look for network settings. Turn off 1 wifi network to separate the 2.4 GHz and the 5 GHz. You need to give both a new network-name. Just take the same one but one you'll end with '2.4' and the other one with '5'. Save it and restart your modem. When the modem is back online, start your configuration again and click on your network that ends with 2.4. You should find your device.
After that put your wifi settings back.
    2. You could setup your smart device by walking away from your modem. Why? Like I said; the 5GHz is more stabil so it's stronger then the 2.4 but the range is shorter. Look at your wifi connection on your mobile while walking away till you see the 5 is jumping towards the 2.4 GHz. Start your configuration.
But in some cases people could stand in the backyard or on the street and can't setup their smart device.
    3. Buy a router. A router is not a modem. A router separates the desired network for each device that is needed. Search on TH-cam; Router vs Modem.

Have the same problem with one of my conect led strips. Have tried everything, like another router, deleted app, other phone, manual installation of device, and concluded this is a crappy product. The devices are in contact with the network as blinking turns into solid light during the connection process, but for some reason the smart life server does not recognice the device, or data sent by device to the server is corrupted.

Anybody ever solved this issue? Like OP I have tried both the fast blink way and slow blink, same thing happens it seems to link to WiFi with the light turning solid after around 7 seconds but then never actually links with the app. I've reset router several times, deactivated 5ghz WiFi so literally only 2.4GHZ is left available and still no change. Turned off the routers firewall temporarily whilst trying, no luck, uninstalled my antivirus software and checked there were no adblockers and still the same result. Frustrating as they were all working fine until a power outtage and then in the midst of trying to reconnect them I deleted them from the smart life app and then the pain began of not being able to reconnect them 🙈

Many times try with 2,5Mhz and not working and on the end with 5MHz was sucessful connected. Manual is clear to be used 2,5Mhz but not working. Fianlly with 5MHz is adjusted well. Slowly blinking for connection!

As 2.4GHz signal is required for set-up only you need to ensure that you are connected to the Wi-Fi at this frequency. One quick way of doing this is to click on the Wi-fi's properties on your device and observe the frequency. The method I used to get 2.4GHz was to go a distance away from the router. I learnt that you must do this directly from the Router and not via a Signal/Ranger Booster. Hope this helps - once I got it figured it took approx. 1 min per plug.

My plugs all went down and tried everything to get them to reconnect... first delete all the plugs from the app and start again...The fix for me was after pressing to get the fast blinking (12 sec press of button) press again until it changes to the slow blinking. Then obviously tap the slow blinking prompt in the smartlife app ... never connected at all on the fast blink !!

After unit is blinking. Push WPS button on router if you have one. Put your phone close to your router and let it run.

I've just added 27 x light switches and they all loaded fine. Maybe a faulty switch? I do have a problem with the app , unrelated , Its super slow to access the switch when on the same WiFi , works fine if I use GSM network... It's a really poorly maintained app in my opinion. But the other app options are all crap . I'm super surprised how behind the software apps are with integrations

This is my second TH-cam and i made this video to send to support… i have 10 switches and all of then does the same.. i can’t get them to appear in the app and because of that, that can’t be used with my Alexa or Google Home… I hope they find a solution soon! This all happened after an update of the Smart Life app… I never had problems before..

its because it reads 2.4Ghz frequency (slower wi-fi) and not 5Ghz frequency (faster wi-fi)

I have just spent 2 days (about 16 hours in total) trying everything to add a single plug to an existing (three) plug/sockets configuration. The app 'sees' the new plug, tries to initialise, then turns off after a minute or so and reports 'Timeout, failed to install'. All the other plugs and switches are working perfectly. but this, and one other I got as a Christmas present both fail due to a 'Timeout' message.
I shall try some of the other bits of advice here and see if I can get the new plug to work and report back

I had the same problem. the only way that works is to login into the router control panel, change the 2.4g band wifi channel name to my wifi and add -2.4G at the end of the name if you don't had one before. maybe the device need to look for the "2.4G" numbers and letter only then it will work
