The rivalry between Mercedes and BMW has been going on for a 100 years and this battle continued today with this tuned cls 550 and the bmw 650xi grand coupe. This CLs was tuned to an astonishing 578 and 550 ft lbs which made this car effortlessly fast out of the corners. Its adjustable air ride suspensions did a marvelous job of keeping you isolated from the inperfections in the road but did gave the car a unsecure feel in the corners. When is came to the BMW is wasn't sure win neither. The 20 inch wheels with its very hard runflat tires make it slide in the corners as well. the grand coupe did not have the trust of the mercedes but it was very tied down and you felt more connection with the car. the bmw Grand coupe also had more stimulating sound which made foe a more enjoyable experience.
I don’t think either car is better than the other. It’s personal preference

Preference may differ and does have alot to do with personal taste but when stacked against each other for specific task, you will see the difference. Enjoyed watching the comparo vid again! I picked up a 2014 CLS 550! The same 4.7L V8 twin-turbo as in the video but mine is the 4Matic (AWD). Had the car lowered as well as some intake work and a full ECU tune + exhaust too. The ECU tune has been tested at just slightly over 600hp and about 715 lbs/tq!!! In Sport mode, the car is blazingly quick off the line and insanely fast to keep up with! Best part is, put it in Comfort mode for when the fam gets in, it slightly detunes the motor and softens the suspension! Super comfort for Sunday and a sleeper beast Mon-Sat 😊

@@NicoleSuggs - Hey Nicole! I have had my CLS for 2yrs now. It has been very reliable but I also did make sure I bought a pre-certified extended warranty as I wanted to have some peace-of-mind in case something did go wrong. I love the car, get a lot of compliments all the time!
Cls550 is amazing, I own a 14 with a renntech tune, exhaust, blacked out!! It's the 4 matic so it takes off and pulls hard, I love the inside of the Bmw and that big screen compared to the 7" screen in the cls, benz always my fav

Adams, how do you like the Renntech tune? How long have you had it and have you had it any issues? Have you ever had to get the ECU re-flashed? You located in the USA or Canada? Dude it's the LUXURY SEDAN MODEL .. GO GET THE AMG IF you want to race it and hug the corners. Did you really say that car feels like it's built to go straight?? Holy s*** dont You own one of these?? New driving the four-door luxury Sedan. That's exactly what it's made for is to go straight fast In luxury. These really aren't 2 cars that you want to test for traction/lateral Gs and compare. If you're going to break out the 650i M sport you should be using the AMG. YOU'RE BETTER COMPARISON WOULD BE THE BMW SEDAN 750I AND THE CLS SEDAN. MORE COMPARABLE WHEN TRYING LATERAL SKID TEST. AND ANOTHER THING TORQUE IS WAY MORE IMPORTANT and MEANS A HELL OF A LOT MORE THAN HP.

Keep in mind the bmw will have oil leaks and cooling system issues

@@letsrollout7307 I still love BMW's. I have a 1999 540i 6 speed and an 05 S600. The BMW is my choice for twisty roads or if I want to be "really" driving the car. For highways or pure thrust, nothing compares to a twin turbo 12. The S600 is a the best highway car I've ever driven.

coolant issues and oil leaks are only from a certain year, due to rubber valves in the 2012 engines and it was recalled and fixed, but the cls from what i read in the reviews is more dependable.

@Smooch Boone yes with each oil change you have to reset the system but it's usually an easy process you can find simple videos online that shows you the process for brakes every car has sensors to measure the thickness of the pads this is how the car knows to tell you that you need brakes. Both are simple tasks so go buy your Benz or BMW and not to worry ok Smooch. Hope this helps. Thanks for the question. 😊😊👍👍👏👏👏

I am 6 feet tall. When I tried the CLS, before i bought the BMW, I had to shake my head a little, so it's not hit the ceiling, and my shoulder was always touching the B-pillar. Irritating.
The innside is tighter - smaller in the CLS

Owned cls and have bmw 650i now. Cls is just a regular fast car, nothing special. It can’t be considered sport car by any means. It is nothing to compare to 650. Compare them in handling and cornering. Same turn 30mp/h on cls it almost throws you out of the side window. And you have a feeling like a little bit more and cars ass will start sliding. Same turn 650 45mp/h it feels like the car is going straight. Merc is not a car for the driver. If you drive a mercedes you should have a driver.

I do believe the BMW is designed to be a driver's car from its soul. MB for getting to church quick, BMW for fun! (Both do need a more proper tuned aftermarket exhaust though)

I am considering either a CLS63 AMG, BMW M6 Gran Coupe, or an Audi RS7.. I’m so torn between all of them. Realistically the Audi would be the best reliably and everyday but.. the others are just gorgeous
I would love to hear your reasons behind why Audi is most reliable Marc???? You have to ask your self a few questions Marc. How will this vehicle be used ? All year round or summers . That depends on where u live . Whats the must have features that you like and the deciding factor is how they drive to you. Beauty is relative and only you can determine which looks best. Go drive them all and you'll know for sure which one stirs your pot 😂😂😂😂.

What was missing from the Mercedes is the $12,000 engine-out service to stop it from smoking.
The 4matic would have been an apples to apples comparison. My 4matic has a button for comfort or sport suspension which may have changed your mind. I can agree merc could have made the muffler note deeper.

American models are not good , European especially UK specs are the best, mercedes is good BMW a better car better interior, more responsive ,better fuel economy the best in is class, apple android car play better touch screen etc.

What brand of DB do you have? I'm thinking of adding DB to by 2014 cls. I have the Wiestec tune on it right now. Quite good, no issues at all.
Chris Estevez hey Chris! I have MBH DPs, the “off road” versions! put the pipes on and have Wiestec retune that bad bitch and get a bit more HP and TQ out of it!

On the corners comment on the bmw. They come standard with dunlop sports max tires which are terrible. Once upgraded to either Goodyear f1 or Michelin or even pirrelli tires the results are tremendously impressive
I really wish BMW would move away from the runflat idea. It does kill th ride quality of thier cars.

Great review, love your enthusiasm and energy. I’m contemplating both cars but leaning towards the CLS because I prefer the softer ride. Can you share the type of tuning that went into the CLS? Was it an ECU tune or something more? I’m contemplating the Renntech ECU tune as it pumps out 700+ft/lbs and 540hp. Where was the CLS tuned? I living in Toronto, Ontario.
Michael Sherwood the cls did an ecu upgrade and a few other mods. The mercedes is alot softer and better suited for cruising. If you love cruising. This is your ride. The bmw is more bumpy and the runflat tires is extremely expensive to replace.

I own a 2016 650 GC and can say it really is the Ultimate Driving Machine.
No other car offers its amazing design, unique interior, amazing power, superb handling, luxury features, comfort for four passengers, decent trunk space and that amazing sports car sound and feel.

Nice video man, but I get the feeling your a BMW owner. I have owned Mercedes for the past 20 years. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE THE LOOK of some BMW's and that is why I always test drive them. IF your looking for a run track day car, I agree, BMW is for you. IF your looking for a daily driver, that is fun to drive, well built, solid sounding doors and materials, then I would go with the CLS550. The BMW , yes you can hear exhaust more, but you can also hear road noise more and it sounds like your door is made out of aluminum. Full disclaimer, I do own a CLS 550 AWD with a Renntech tune making about 560hp and 700ft/lbs tq.
+veryfitblondeguy. You nailed it perfectly. Benz are better cruisers and day to day drivers. What i can tell you though. The CLS was very close on the twisties. Its an amazing all around car. IN short, both make a great quality car, just depends on what your looking for!!!! One day I will get a video up for you of the Satin Dark grey CLS550 sitting on Forgestar F14 black wheels with the Renntech Tune. I might have to convert you to the Mercedes team :)
@@veryfitblondeguy don't get me wrong. I do love the CLS but for the back roads. The BMW beats it by a small margin. If this was a show about which car is the best for day to day, the mercedes would have won this hands down.

As a previous cls500 owner you’re right and also the interior space is tight so id have to pick the BMW on this one. I own a cl550 coupe now and super satisfied with space especially but also ride comfort and power too

I knew they were expensive to fix before I got it and what to look out for but I do most of the repairs myself as I’ve owned several Mercedes and have a lot of the specialty tools. I did my own airbags on my CLS with no problems by switching to Arnott’s brand.

It's not a step down from the Mercedes. Keep in mind that BMW is a 110% independent car company. Actually along with VW, it's the only truly independent German company. In contrast to VW however, who has earnt this due to selling cheap folks' cars, BMW has achieved this while still being a high-end automobile maker. BMW has come a long way. Whatever people like you say about BMW, a BMW is a BMW. And BMW has always been, and will always Mercedes' rival. Thanks to BMW, cars like E63 AMG, C63 AMG, AUDI RS6 or, RS5 exist.
I love the Gran Coupe its the best looking and driving car in this segment and it never ages. The CLS is a bit dated now

This ain't a honest review, I can tell by what you were saying about the Mercedes, then when you switched to the BMW you suddenly say it has everything the Mercedes doesn't have and say nothing bad about it and straight laugh and try to hate, just by that I can tell this is no review, Mercedes is 100 times better.. And if it was a amg, you would take all that back lol it's like he already knew what to say about the benz and bmw before the review lol or just really hating. Suspension and amg sound would have you crying of joy lol

If you did you would have realize that both cars weren't perfect in the corners. Both cars moved around. The comparison was neck n neck to the end and what made the difference was the BMW lower seating position and better sound track. We also featured the CLS 63 AMG which made the 7 best cars for 2017 and the BMW gran coupe didn't. I understand you may like benz and thank you so much for sharing your thoughts with us. Now this video is a drive comparison . 2 different aspects being covered . Appreciate you for taking the time to ask . Here's my opinion . Would I buy the 650xi again ?? Yes . The sound is ridiculous. The exclamation is great . The style only comes second to the M6 in my opinion. Hope this helps

I love that my CLS 550 doesn’t sound like a testosterone filled teenager’s muscle car. I am happy to drive a sleek car that is not too flashy trying to show off to everyone with its loud muffler. I don’t find that sexy. I find it annoying. Loud doesn’t equal better. Trump has proved that to be true over and over. The most noise doesn’t win!

BMWs always had the drive and sport feeling packed down, that's just what they've been about four the past 100 years... My parents have owned 3 BMWs so far and that loved them, my Aunt owned a Benz... But Benz does have the sexy interiors... Only if they can make a supercar together and put that rivalry aside for a second😂😂

No way in hell you can possibly say any bmw is more reliable or better quality. Mercedes v8s have always been the best sounding by far and havent been called “bulletproof” for no reason.

For it to be a fair comparison you would need a cls amg or 4matic Mercedes because the 650 Xi is awd with the sports package.

I anm really confused between these two....I like exterior of both cars...i like engine sound of bmw more....
