As Moiseiwitsch was friend and colleague of Medtner ,there couldn't have been another pianist of stature except Rachmaninoff, who understood Medtner's wishes and idiom more than he. Nice to see their collaboration ,"Russian Round Dance' on You tube.Has everyone heard Schwarzkopf singing Medtner songs with the composer playing? M a r v e l o u s !!....Too bad Horowitz didn't record more than the one gem we have; he was toying with the plan to play a Medtner recital....The performance of the Opus 22 here is the most beautiful I have ever heard, what is the year of the recording?.....My teacher Earl Wild sent Medtner support! Rachmaninoff thought Medtner was the greatest of his Russian contemporary composers....

Wunderschöne Interpretation dieser perfekt komponierten und technisch anspruchsvollen Klaviersonate im relativ schnellen Tempo mit klar artikuliertem Anschlag und völlig effektiver Dynamik. Echt genialer Virtuose!

Amazing how different his recording is from that of Gilels's. How is it that nowadays we encounter so much "sameness" amongst pianists?

because nowadays competitions ask us to play with a perfect respect of the score. So all basic pianists just play the same. Before was a much better era for the piano... Now only some rare geniuses like Pogorelich and Sultanov shows that there is still hope, and that the score isnt a cage but the base of the masterwork !

Nowadays musical individuality is dying, unfortunately...

He is closest to how Rachmaninoff would have played this piece of beautiful music
