    This method is brilliant! I can’t believe after 8 years this is the only video I’ve found that uses paper towels for grout. It is so much easier than dealing with real gout or plaster. After my sample piece which turned out so realistic I’ll use his method for the whole fireplace.

    I just received a 25 pack of cup holders for this. I'm going to go around the frame of a mirror and give it to my husband for Father's day. I think it's going to look great in his man cave. I'll probably have to hot glue them down, then go over it with mod podge to get it to stay down on the curved edges. Thank you for the idea!💗

    You can wet the cut tray and press it flat until it drys into a flat sheet. Also you can add water to the glue and use tissue paper in layers and press a large area into stone shape.

    I made the stone floor right inside the mushroom house I built. I love it, but not sure why some of the “stones” seem to be popping up and how I can fix it. Love this channel! I really love minis and it has given me much needed inspiration with the holidays being over.

    The effect is fantastic, very realistic. But I think it would be easier to use a brush to cover the surface with glue then laying down the cardboard pieces rather than gluing each individually.

    Hint: Use cheap eye make-up (Dollar Store) with a brush to
    color the stones... I make Fairy Houses and have resorted to
    the makeup... saves you fingers ;)

    Great tutorial, I bought a lovely big dolls house a few days ago from our local on line buy and sell. As a project. It was cheap. £12 because the front door is missing and theres water damage to the floor on the ground. Easily fixed. I 'll try this floor thanks. It could be a wall too

    Brilliant ideas. I'm going to try this but is it possible to use mod podge instead of the glue for sticking the kitchen towel on the masking tape and then again using it for the "stone" pieces? Thanks for all your great ideas

      Lol it rocks! And yes, can be made any size. If you look at my more recent videos I do a stone pathway using peat pots and I paint those ones. There’s many different ways these can be used and coloured, they could be made into tiny bricks as well.

    Thumps up because I did enjoy watching! It turned out great and looks so much like real stones. I love the idea of coloring them with chalk too. Now I just need to figure out where to get some of those cup holders. Have you just saved yours from getting drinks or did you order them? I am going to tell my friends to start saving them for me.

      You can use all sorts of different clays I'm sure. I don't think it really matters what kind of clay, as long as you can carve in the lines for bark and it keeps those lines while it dries.

    What brand acrylic sealer did you use? How thick did you apply it? At 8:02, it looks like you applied a pretty liberal amount. Did that disrupt or subdue the chalk coloring at all?

      I've done different grout colours using a thin paint brush and regular craft paint

      I would paint the paper towel after it dries whatever color I want the grout. Hadn’t thought about it but I will try it. I am interested to see how it turns out😀

    Do you wait for the paper towel to dry before you start laying the "stone" or does it matter cause its all glue?

      I always let it dry to the touch then continue, just makes it easier for adding the stones, less slippery. Since this video I found a dot of hot glue to set them in place is much faster and then spread the pva glue over top once they are all down

    After the paper is dried and painted can it be considered water proof or would I need to do another step to make it compatible with being an outdoor decoration?

      yes, it would have to be sealed with an exterior sealer

      I think they are called “chalk pastels”. You can also use paint, like acrylic and watercolour, anything that will add a bit of colour or you can leave them plain too. Have fun!
