  • Big thanks to the friendly reception guy for allowing me to film this wicked "old gem"! Just say that you want to photograph the elevator and he will let you ride it.
Let's commemorate this channel's 11th anniversary with this wonderful original old gated OTIS elevator! Featuring very rare white buttons which were more commonly seen in Hong Kong. Although the design looks like from the 1960s, the elevator itself actually dates back from the mid 1970s. This is perhaps the last known old "white buttons" OTIS elevator still working in Singapore after the one at Singapore Woodcraft have been replaced. It is also one of the last original relay controlled OTIS elevators in the country. Another similar old gated OTIS elevator in Singapore can be found at Hotel Victoria, but that one has already been modernized by OTIS.
It's still in excellent shape despite being almost 50 years old. The interior and fixtures (saved for the burnt out numbers) are still in good shape without any serious damages. The scissor gates were initually hand operated before they were automated. Also featuring the old OTIS "Pira" landing doors which are extremely rare in Asia.
There is also a single sliding door OTIS elevator at the front but I didn't even bother to film it as it has been modernized.

Seems like this place has earned many recognitions from elevator enthusiasts, that's why the reception staff was kind to those filming the elevators. And yes, these kind of OTIS are starting to get very, very rare - I think the same applies to all gated elevators.

      Lmao thanks 😂
It's indeed amazing to see an elevator of this kind still surviving in Singapore where many old elevators get replaced/modernized every year. I really hope it won't get modernized.

After discussing with other lift enthusiasts and I came down to measure velocity and acceleration data, I’m quite sure that this lift isn’t completely original. The controller was very likely replaced or at the very least modified, as the levelling is very smooth and relatively quick. It’s definitely not a single speed lift as the stop would be much harsher and much quicker. The lift isn’t 2 speed also, and it travels at 0.82m/s (if it were original, it almost certainly would’ve been a 2 speed lift). The deceleration felt very controlled, so I’m very certain the controller for this lift was modernised at the very least, with a VF drive fit in.

By the time I rode this lift I was already aware that the controller has been replaced due to its leveling behavior. If not then the lift would've had a harsh leveling.
