I have a property in Portland which I will be visiting soon and I would like to see the progress on the road please. The last update I saw didn’t look too good.
I would like to have seen streetlamps on those posts, especially if they are equipped to use sunlight as the source. It can still be added by incorporating some of those miniature solar panels.
The highway looks to be on schedule for the August opening. It seems as if most of the remaining road work will be completed within the next 2-3 months. However, maybe the toll booth will take a little longer than that.🤷
That barrier is not finished. There will or should be two curved barrier running along the whole length . The metal post are just what they will bolt the barrier to.
The next leg gonna be a more costly one though cuz it's more hilly mountainous terrain to cover and I think it's a long stretch of that to counter before reaching into St Elizabeth. So I quess before this toll is finally connected back to Mobay it's gonna take 3 to 4 more legs to reach there which may take up to 20 to 30 years from now the max to do so. I'm excited about this road project and it's future benefits
Yea I think I heard funding is in the making for at least to ST. ELIZABETH and with modernize equipment don't think it will take 30 years most 10 years
not really liking to be a critic but there was no oversight in the design of this section the hill is steep so one lane will be clogged with heavy loaden traffic and the slow moving traffic will take up the next lane, there will be no space for regular traffic the entrance to the yam park is too sudden plus it will serve only east bound traffic. the original design of the yam park was flawed now this make it worst its as if someone from Kingston or another country design the layout without any regards for residents of Manchester and the adjoining parishes
Not in agreement with your statement. I live in Mandeville and that was not the case with the previous Melrose bypass. This is actually a little straighter and ever so slightly less steep alignment

Now the highway can't do the same as there will be 2 lanes now and also the east bound entrance to the park is too sudden for a highway and will cause accident, there was no dispute about the straightness of the highway, the exit ramp to Pourus is too steep and sudden especially for heavy laden vehicle going into a one lane, which is going to cause a bottle neck the entrance ramp from Pourus is another problem as it will enter on the right side of the west bound lane which is the fast lane in other word they are looking 5 years down the road and not farther in the future and that is why they now have to redo the north coast highway over
Jamaica has been using metrics since 1975 ? When I was going to KTHS in the late 70's the building technology and land surveying books were in metric ? And doing technical drawings in metric is much easier than SAE. All the Universities in Jamaica and the English speaking Caribbean used metric. The average Jamaican knows how one mile looks 😂 1mile = 1.609 kilometers. Although Stanley Consultant is from the United States all the drawings, surveying, Planning and highway alignment is done in metric.
I doubt that, seeing that most of the road work has been done already, more than 90%. Maybe the toll booths could go beyond the expected completion date. However, they still have 4 four months to complete both toll booths.

I think they should make a Rest Stop on the left hand side , maybe an extension to the Yam Park for traffic going up the Melrose Hill
