The way Eugene tried to “cauterize” his tongue with a knife wasn’t the best way to do it. Heating up the underside of the convex side of a stainless steel, smaller spoon with a butane torch to the point where you can smell the metal starting to burn but not nearly to the point where it gets red hot. The pain shouldn’t be too bad at all. You can put a lit cigarette out on your tongue and you won’t feel a thing due to how moist the tongue is. A red-hot knife is overkill.
For those wondering wtf I’d know about any of this, I’ve branded my neck with an iron brand and a propane torch, so I can tell you definitively that red-hot metal will cause third-degree burns and permanent scarring. Hoping Eugene allowed the blood to cool before touching it to his tongue, otherwise he would have damaged the nerve endings.
I know this because, when I pushed the brand into my neck, it was by far the worst physical pain I ever experienced in my life, but it only lasted about 2.5 seconds before the nerve endings singed off. All I felt then was my neck skin being pulled taught and turning leathery like a catcher’s mitt, and all I could really think about was the smell of my own searing flesh. Overall, a fun experience! 😇
