  • What's up, folks! I'm back with another Big Country reaction (and as I explain at the end, the last until I can get access to more Big Country), and this time we listen to the "12" Mix" for "Look Away," the first track on their 1986 album The Seer. So join me for a dynamic, chance-taking, and experimental mid '80s 12" Mix of an already-great Big Country song. Cheers!
Also I run a Patreon featuring extra content of different types, so anyone interested in supporting what we do here on TH-cam and getting early-access to video-watchalongs and reactions blocked on TH-cam, as well as behind-the-scenes videos, video-reactions, and blooper-reels from my videos, can go here: / shnootz
And those who'd like to support the channel with a one-time donation can do so via PayPal, at billshattner@yahoo.com. Thanks!

2:50 Hi Matt , thank you for doing this deep dive 👍just like to say that on the Seer expanded album there are 3 tracks which are all fantastic Restless natives, song of the south and Home came the angels all epic to Big country fans . Have you got these in the file? Many thanks Charlie 👍

No, unfortunately this was the last track I have access to. But if anyone else can help me access more Big Country, email me at shnootz117@gmail.com and we can figure it out. Cheers, and thanks for being part of this journey up until now!

Great song, but not the 12". Feel like it ruins the flow/melody/ lyrics. However, do like to hear some of the deconstructed elements. Thanks as always. 💙

I think that this is one of those 12" mixes that goes on with itself too much and doesn't really add anything.

I agree. The only BC 12" mixes I like are from Steeltown since they seem to clean up the sound.

I like the Teacher ‘mystery mix’. Cool guitar

Hi Matt, what a way to utterly ruin a magnificent song eh? Millar, the producer tried to be a smart ass here but failed at every single turn. I absolutely hate this mix. I know you are far more of a techno man than me but surely you can hear how awful and out of both time and tune that was? Sounds like it was mixed with a wooden spoon. I wish this wasn't the last track you were doing, there is so much great stuff still to hear.

Hey there. Ha, yeah, it does sound dated in terms of what they did with the rhythmic break/syncopated sections, though that tends to be the case with many experimental mixes/12" mixes from this time (meaning, I don't think this one was notably worse in that regard than other 12" remixes I've heard). And yeah, the person supplying Big Country doesn't have any more material. If people can share additional tracks/albums with me, I'd love to go through more BC.

I will see what I can do. I have just about everything BC put out. Next two albums were Record Label efforts to get them on radio which in my mind water downed their sound. The B-sides seemed to be left alone and I found more interesting.
