👍👏 Thank You for showing that sailing/boating is a combination of 'The GOOD, the BAD & the UGLY'. 🤙 LOVE 🥰 how you show the BIG waves along with rope/lines & knots, too.
From the beginning I can relate. Decisions, Decisions. What if? What an experience! We have been watching the route doing ABC'S to Cartegena but the stories rounding the cape gave us pause. We are a small boat. We are a slow boat. We have listened to many sailors. Your music set the mood with the waves and motion, the sky and boat. Yes, autopilots are paramount. We are on autopilot ourselves sometimes to just get the next thing done. I can imagine the water in and removal and cleaning and the boat moving forward? With everything you had crudites and lovely meals. You have a world class cruiser and live on 2/3 of the planet. It's great to cruise and visit countries and cultures. Cartegena brings to mind Romancing the Stone.😍 You are doing things most people dream about!! 🐙 Exciting to follow!!
Thanks Judith! The sailing around the corner after the ABC islands where just a bit more harsh than normal because of the big swell caused by the hurricane in the north. There are bigger waves there as normal. But with looking for a decent weather this trip should be very ok with your boat. We decided not to stop at the ABCs because we needed to be in Colombia for Tali’s pass port renewal and we didnot want to bother with all this covid regulations on entry. Just reefed more than normal, and go
Don’t know the actual situation, when we where there all was easy for everyone, just fill in your form on the computer, pay 5 euro, that was it. No questions, no quarantine
what a nasty trip. But you made it. Columbia sounds great to me, with a breeze of big sailing. By the way. I was always so pleased with this cpt autopilot too. But the new one I bought 3 years ago, is a pain in the neck. After trying and trying hard, to find the problem, I replaced the command unit. The new unit worked for a while nicely. But then it failed again. Now sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn´t. But the support by the company was fabulous. Still, it doesn´t help, when I need a working autopilot. Now I will re-calibrate it, as I got the impression after doing so it tends to work for an extended period until it refuses to stay on course again. Enjoy Columbia!
Well done, nice report about your trip and the care you take technical wise and of course Tali, she feeds the captain with olives, "Essiggurkerl" and the home made Tsatsiki . Mentioning the essential equipment you need, and the forgetable rest of "yacht electronic toys". Having a fast boat where you can sail safe. (slender hulls, light weight, bridgedeck clearance...) Imagine that wave breaks into a too low mounted dinghy at the davits (seen on so many of the slow "Condomarans"), suddenly a ton of water more on hanging in the davits..... Missing more of you on Facebook, too many useless yacht promotors are taking over you great idea to present the fast cruising catamarans. Go ahead and give us the chance to watch you and your style of cruising. "Nur das Beste" from Greece.
Wow, what an adventure! you made this difficult journey so masterfully! hats off! Great documentary film! Thank you for sharing your experience and interesting life! I wish you together all the best! ❤️❤️
so good to see you are Ok.....i guess there is a first time, for some things. and as we get older it may be a bit more striking to our sensibilities...i am happy to see your attitude, and i hope the best for my neighbors in their catamaran life...catch you later in the next one....alviederzein.....dosvodonya - Peace😁🖐
Great filming and editing as usual! This is one of the first videos I have seen about someone running from a hurricane/TS and what they experienced. I have little doubt the nasty wave(s) you experienced were created by the strong winds from the hurricane/TS. How did the boats that stayed in Martinique manage? This is a good comparison of an early season hurricane and what to do when faced with such a tough decision. I have to say having the flexibility from a performance cat's speed is definitely a plus!
In the end it was only a tropical storm traversing much more south than predicted. In Martinique winds where only 45 knots because of the more southern path. But: the problem is, you are frightened, it’s a very tense atmosphere looking every hour to absolutely different forecasts and you have actually no idea what will come. It’s stress, stress, stress... And if the storm decides to pass a bit more northerly you are in it’s center, and then in Martinique it would be a Desaster, 1000 boats there, you can imagine what happens
@@UmadumSailing I'm familiar with this! When Gonzalo came last year we were onboard a yacht and that was a small storm. It's good to hear it missed Martinique. With 1000 boats wow... It would've been a frightening mess!
Aye m8’s! What a voyage! You are certainly doing well and I’m impressed you had energy to film during the passage. Maybe a separate episode about that wave entering from aft into your saloon and hulls? Going more into details? On the other hand I guess you didn’t have time to capture that 😉
A quick cat makes you stay longer, more decision time. But seeing your speed is really something. I would like to know about the "flu treatment / rules" you receive in harbours. I do not imagine that free people like you fell for the vaxx. I must have 3 pcr - for leaving and returning from Southam to EU. In Europe pcr is needed almost everywhere. So no holiday in Poland, nor Spain, nor Austria... Benelux and Hungary are brainsane exceptions. Freedom is on the water only, but how is it in harbours???
Entering Martinique was without any test, no quarantine. Colombia same. Panama reduces your need to quarantine for 3 days less, if you are fully vaccinated (!). In the pacific most of the small states, where we are interested to go to, are closed. So no Pacific Ocean for us this year. It’s very hard to decide, where to go, because things change so fast, that you may leave for a certain country just to find out, it’s closed till you arrive there, a messy situation for cruisers

Hi Otto, am glad you are both safe in Columbia. Am interested in buying some cat plans and have been trying to contact Patrick Luscher via the email address on his looping website but no answer. I hope he is well! Any ideas on alternative ways to contact him? Thanks, Ross
I am not so sure about the piracy hotspot. In my 26 years of cruising I was in so many so called hotspots - Red Sea 1995 , east AAfrica 2004 and so on - I never saw any pirates. 1996 Colombia was a no go, Jimmy Cornell even give you far away waypoints to come not to near to Columbian waters. I met an Italian guy in Venezuela who told me, he spends half a year in Columbia and the other half in Venezuela. I was startled because Colombia was a no go at 96. He told me everything is fine, no problems, just the opposite, people welcomed him, because there was no sailing crowd. Whenever the media tell you things like this, have a look behind the screen

Be safe and good sailing 🌞⛵
Thanks for the flowers, Dwayne 😉🥂⛵️🎥❤️
Fantastic video. Very much enjoyed. ❤️💙👍
Thanks Dan, happy you enjoyed 😉🥂⛵️🎥
Thank you very much for that episode, you gave us the good, the bad and the ugly! Real sailing for seniors, more please. Rog from FerrariSailing
We are not quite geriatric 😉🥂⛵️🎥
Schön das das für Euch geklappt habt,
Muchas gracias, senior 😉
An excellent dokumentary Film - a must see for every sailor ! Congratulations
Thank you soooo much😉⛵️🥂❤️🎥
Thank you again for sharing your adventures. I love the way you describe them, and the music you choose is beautiful! I wish you well on your voyage.
Thanks Jonathan! 😉🥂⛵️🎥❤️

Спасибо!

Can American passports also enter Martinque with the ease you experienced?

Nice passage to Colombia ... ! Enjoy your stay ...
Yes, we do...😉🥂⛵️
Great show guys happy that you are safe
Thanks Ian!!!
Great video, keep them coming. Enjoy Colombia.
Yes, we do
The editing and footage is terrific. You guys make movies and I feel like I’m with you. ❤️👏
Thanks Barry! I was a film director in my “former live”, so I love making films instead of bla bla videos. Glad to hear you are with us 😉⛵️🎥
Another great passage! Btw I got in touch with Bill Robinson, thanks for the connection. Safe travels!
Fine that you reached him!

Thanks for showing the good and the tough….much appreciated

Really Good....reminds me of sailing to South Africa from Australia....great memories

Who is Otto, sounds like the nickname for an autopilot 😉

No, there was sure no time to film this, where to busy and exhausted to bring the water out and clean everything - instead of sleeping and resting
Great vid. The music stresses me out... hehehe
I hope you are not totally stressed now 😉😉😉

Wave into the cat. definitely rear, love the food. Write a cook book, "simple and tasty at sea". Supa to watch

I'd not get close to Venezuela if you can help it, dangerous waters, piracy hotspot.
