    Can't thank you enough Chris for your wonderful videos. I've shot 78 twice in the last month. Didn't realise how crucial the set-up is. The last time I broke 80 was 20 years ago.

    There comes a time,I think in a golfers life when he's lucky enough to stumble upon a suggestion, a video etc. that helps him to know exactly what he's doing wrong and this was it for me, you'll probably never see this response but I had to tell you what a tremendous difference this video did for me.THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU

    This is a good video to explain the logic behind fixing a swing. It proves without a doubt that the golf pro or your friend who tells you that you are 'over thinking' is not correct. You can only over think something you understand. People who use the phrase 'overthinking' know the golf swing from a child or are bad players who dont care to improve. We can understand from this video that golf swing faults are a chain reaction of compensations resulting from a flawed technique. You have to trace the flaw back to the root of the technique disconnect. Difficult if an action is counter intuitive.

    • @JohnnyLREACTS
      @JohnnyLREACTS 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed 100% excellent comment. When a golf pro tells you you are overthinking something well no shit trying to remember to do 5 different crucial things all in one motion that you are trying to 'learn'. He, or she, has already learned it.

    I vividly remember a swing yesterday which struck me as “hanging back”. Your explanation has clarified it. Thanks. I’m about ready to start working on early season uneven lies which are challenging wrt path and shift for me.

    This is an EXCELLENT video. I've taught myself golf (started 26 hcp and now a 16 in a year) from youtube and watched countless instructors (I have a short list of good videos that are actually useful) - I've video taped my swings to no end and experimented for hours on the range with the camera, but despite ALL my efforts I couldn't shift my weight (I'm fairly athletic and played college table tennis). I know I have a slight over the top, but I had delayed working on that until I shifted my weight FIRST, which was completely the opposite thing to do based on the video above. I caused countless problems with my swing because of that. The mechanics in this video made all the sense in the world... swing path changes the bottom point of the arc and therefore changes the way your body compensates for it. Over the top = no weight shift (if you do try to shift weight with an over the top like I tried, you'll top the ball regularly and make incorrect compensations). You HAVE to change to an inside out path and that bottoms out the arc sooner and your body compensates by shifting weight forward, synchronizing the start of the downswing. Thanks Chris!

    Great video. Hundred percent correct about why I can’t get to my left side. Next logical question would be how to adjust my down swing to the inside, rather than over the top?

  • @muskokarinkrat
    @muskokarinkrat 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Damn, that pretty much covers most of my bad shots. When I hit a good shot, my right elbow is close to my body, and my weight shift is pretty good. I KNOW I sometimes come over the top, my shot is then a slice or fade, and my divot is out to in, matching my swing path. sometimes I top the shot.This is the clearest explanation I have seen of the mechanics around why it happens. Maybe after my broken arm heals, there will be some seasion left to fix it! Great video Chris.

    Best golf instruction on YT without doubt. Any ideas for stalling hip rotation. Seen my swing in slomo & it looks good until just before impact. My turn stalls & the hands & arms take over. Hips not open enough through impact, more square on. It kills any consistency with strike.

  • @paulbaumgartner3248
    @paulbaumgartner3248 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it, if you have the correct golf setup, where you arms are hanging straight down, and your arms in the backswing are raising as your right shoulder are turning up so your left shoulder is basically pointing toward the ball and your keeping your left arm straight and your right elbow pointing toward the ground, you can't help but turning your left knee out , when you start the downswing and turning your hips open on contact and your arms will be swinging on plane. as you keep rotating your left shoulder up. I hope I got this right, and it seems to work in my back yard, can't wait for my next round to see if it works there!! LOL. great videos chris, your the best

    You did a nice job explaining what people do wrong. Specifics regarding what to do is seriously lacking.

  • @williamreichert4798
    @williamreichert4798 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is the only instruction I have seen that understands that to shift your weight properly in the the downswing you must keep the club on plane. Coming over the top, even a little,makes it almost impossible to shift the weight.. The feeling I have is that at the start of the downswing the club head must move away from the target for an instant. If it feels like the club head is moving towards the target you have
    come over the plane and you will hang back as Chris explains.

  • @jonathanlambert7004
    @jonathanlambert7004 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Chris
    Have you ever considered a swing without any weight shift. Shifting weight during the swing increases the difficulty immensely. If you keep the weight on the left side you don't have to worry about timing, as long as you keep your spine angle. I have not seen any teachers teaching it. But I have tried it and my consistency has improved 100%

    • @ChrisRyanGolf
      @ChrisRyanGolf  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jonathan, this could be a great ‘feel’ that works for you, and if so then fantastic and definitely keep doing it. I’d suggest though that even in this swing there will be weight shift, it’s almost essential to move the club with and speed 👍👍

    • @kingshearer2
      @kingshearer2 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      +NEIL CLARKE That's what I'm hoping for. My guess is that you need to start the downswing with your lower body and this will drop the club into a more inside path rather than your upper body starting your downswing and throwing your club outside.

  • @garthdownton8645
    @garthdownton8645 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The very best struggle with this issue. Moe Norman solved this problem years ago by learning how to shift the entire body to clear the way for the chest and arms to move freely through the hitting area. EVERYTIME! Some distance may or may not be lost but the game is a lot easier when you can find the ball!! IMO the better athlete would lose no distance.

    The right foot must rotate 90 degrees counter clockwise to allow for the hips to rotate and shift the weight. If you dont do that the weight cannot move target wise. Activate the right foot.

      And that's exactly why people say, "So coach, I corrected what you told me to correct and still hit balls real bad. Maybe you're not a good coach..." lol. You fix one thing, then you start hitting another weird shot, hence you develop another fault to correct it and you lose interest in golf and give up. lol

    I like a lot of your videos- but I agree with a couple people here--- you spent the first 3/4's of the video teaching how to hit it wrong, leaning back and basically nothing on how to get on your left side at impact. Showed it at the very end but no tips on 'swing path', 'hip rotation', 'swing plane' to come from the inside , rotate and contact with the shaft in line or ahead of the ball at impact.

    Hey, if you are someone who hangs back this video will do nothing for you. I know and you know why you hang back: you're trying to PICK THE BALL UP! HOW ELSE DOES IT GET INTO THE SKY?! You've got to lift it, right? Telling a person who believes the ball gets into the air by lifting (about 90% of new golfers) to work on their weight shift is useless. Their mind blows when they shift first because they can't get behind the ball. the fix is giving them another way to power the ball.

    • @kevinhsieh5444
      @kevinhsieh5444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Pause at the top or turn a little more on back swing until your chin touches shoulder which will allow your lower body move forward automatically. Once you creat your weight shift and add hip turn on down swing, you will be able to hit from inside out. You will hit it very solid.

  • @look2jesus777
    @look2jesus777 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I am doing the opposite - ending up on my left foot but hitting behind the ball, what does that mean?

    • @kevinhsieh5444
      @kevinhsieh5444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Because your body hangs back which will cause hitting behind.

    • @kevinhsieh5444

      Solution is to pause at the top of your swing until your chin touches shoulder which will help your lower body forward and weight shift. And then use your hip turn to creat inside out path. Your contact will be very solid.
