And by fact: The only one of the Buildings higher than the Burj Khalifa which will be COMPLETELY build, not just planned or only 20 Stores made, is the J220 in China. It will be opened on Christmas 2014.

There are many techniques for mitigating lateral forces. A super tall skyscraper with an isolated base and tuned mass dampener may very well be able to withstand a massive earthquake.

I think a lot of these massive structures could be stand alone cities in them selves. Id rather we built up than out. Maybe have the land that would have been turned into sprawling cityscape be turned into forests ect.

Oh come on . it's not just the building . Can you think of the energy demand for water being pumped up ? Electrification of the building , of the elevator system , the fire system , the vent system . Skyscrapers need to be air-conditioned always .. The gas system , the heat system . 500 2 storey houses will cost way way less energy than 1000 apartments in a skyscraper. The overpopulation is what is demanding high rises otherwise low rise buildings are the most energy efficient buildings . Also with the advance in solar energy , a house can be easily electrified using the Sun as the source . Imagine doing that to a skyscrapaer
but non of those points justify not building these buildings because they use "too much" energy. To be honest, High rise buildings allow efficient use of services and amenities because you can fit more people closer to train stations etc.
Sure they use a lot of energy but I think they will be increasingly more important as time goes on. I'm sure there will be better environmental design and more efficient buildings as time goes on.

I know this wasn’t known when this video came out but Dubai is currently building “Dubai Creek Tower” which will be over 1.3km tall! It would be placed around 7:40 in this video

SolarWindsRider We should build a "International Spaceport", We humans need a quick access hub to space and I would like to challenge the architects of today to come up with a design to build a huge tower aka "Space-Scraper". Once we are high enough, sending humans/probes/ships to space would significantly reduce the cost; I believe this to be the next big imperative technological advancement for our species.
