I am using a wire wheel, wire brushes, and sandpaper to remove as much as possible then coming back with VHT Rust Converter to take care of the rest. I got the body color paint from Automotive Touchup (www.automotivetouchup.com/touch-up-paint/)
@@DriveBreakFixRepeat70 Hard to say since mine is original paint with 50+ years of fading. It appears like it would match up to the original factory color and seems to compare well to what is on the underside of the trunk and hood.
Guess the easy answer is that was how it was done at the factory. Honestly, i had not thought of using adhesive. I wonder how that would hold up with the up and down movement of the window over time.
@67Stang I'm with you on trying to stay factory. But you got to remember, they didnt have all the technologies we have today to make life easier. And, I would think it would hold up fine. Figure that's what holds your deck lid, and door weather stripping on. And they get used a lot. Worth a shot anyway. May make your life easier.
@@hughphillips67Mustang If I ever work on a different car I might try that. Already got these installed on the 67 stang using the staples. Thanks for watching.
Just started putting glass in my 68 and this video was a great tip. Thanks!
Glad you found it helpful.
Looks like a bigger project then you would expect for weatherstripping!
It was but not too bad once you know what is going on.
CJ Pony parts has plenty of videos. I just watched it
What are you using to treat the rust? Where did you get the body color paint?

@@67Stang I’ve used them before for other cars. Was their Springtime Yellow pretty close?

Why not just use weather strip adhesive than those staples?
