"Jacob's Creek Chardonnay, 1991!" 😂 The scene with Father Damo and Dougal playing Street Fighter 2, is one of my faves in the series. "Tell him that's fine, I don't care what he does! He's not the boss o' me!" 😂❤ The man berating Ted at the picnic spot with the "Fups", is Arthur Mathews, one of the two writers of the show. Love your Ted reactions, brightening up the day as usual! :)

The actual title of this episode refers to a long-running BBC music show called The Old Grey Whistle Test.
"According to presenter Bob Harris, the programme derived its name from a Tin Pan Alley phrase from years before. When they got the first pressing of a record they would play it to people they called the old greys - doormen in grey suits. Any song the doormen could remember and whistle, having heard it just once or twice, had passed the old grey whistle test." - Wikipedia.

This episode keeps you grinning from start to end
There is a show about the making of where the actors (minus ted😢) re visit the house etc and locations and go inside it’s very emotional
But also the actors who appeared as guests each week were actually all waiting for that call it was that famous by then they all wanted to do it it’s such a beautiful show and the hang round shine through it’s not fake
The bit where Jim Norton (who plays Bishop Brennan) talks about Dermot, is utterly heartbreaking. :(

My Mam was from Limerick in Ireland and she was so funny with her sayings without realising she was hilarious.... she adored Dermot and a secret crush on Dick Byrns singing at the Eurovision....I have been so lonely since she died. This year I spent my birthday on the 21st and Christmas entirely alone, I didn't even have a tree up for the first time ever. Anyway, I just wanted to wish you both a really happy 2023! I find myself laughing so much while watching these show's (via you). It's only a little bit funnier that you laugh too, but it gives me the confident to laugh, cos I know it ain't just me laughing at this dated, traditional British humour
I wouldn't call ir dated or traditional. It's fresh as a daisy and there's nothing like it. And it's Irish really. Just British money got it made.

If you don't like dark (Lucy says red) bee/ale, look at the hops and the other stuff, Irish doesn't mean good, my chef/Irish teacher didn't think Guinness was genuine unless it was drank in Ireland
It would be funny/interesting to see Brad & Lucy do a blind fold drinking beer test. Cobra from India for example is meant to work with curry. I'm half Maltese and Scottish, so drink beer with whisky

The Old Grey Whistle Test was a BBC series featuring live band that generally where not in the charts. It commissioned by David Attenborough. Yeah that guy.

Countdown was the FIRST programme EVER shown on channel 4, back in the day; presented/hosted beautifully by Richard Whitely,
Then the 8 Out Of 10 Cats team (another show) took over... …and IT IS A JOY..!!
Particularly look out for Sean Lock (Especially "Nazi Island")
Before "8 Out Of 10 Cats" took over, Richard Whitely once presented Countdown WITH HIS MICROPHONE OVER THE "O".
In original Countdown, contestants select letters by asking for "vowels" and "consonants". IT IS A GREAT SHOW.

What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine? You only have to punch the rhythm into a drum machine once! You also have more chance of getting a round of drinks from a drum machine

When the young priest is called in for tea those that don't know it's not a cup of tea there referring to it's a meal, most of northern England and Ireland don't do lunch and dinner, instead it's called dinner and tea, so the young priest was being called in for a meal
Yes, in the old days the main meal of the day, dinner, was at dinner-time 1pm, and tea was a slightly smaller meal, at tea-time, 6 or 7pm. A rural Irish politician in the 90s once declared that he spoke for "the plain people of Ireland, those who eat their dinner in the middle of the day!"

The creators of the show are understood to have thought the show is not anti Catholic, in fact I believe one of the writers has said it was just about three guys and they happened to be priests.
@@jethro1963 As I wrote, *I DO NOT* think it is anti-Catholic. It was clearly situation comedy in the tradition of the lead trying hard but losing every time. There were some mention of facts which some folks might prefer "hushed up". Christianity is partly about "revealed truth". So that is actually copacetic, 👍

Eg. "Lingerie Department", Dougal's funeral, etc, etc, even their parochial house and Mrs Doyle, don't work otherwise.

Of course a sitcom character has to be somehow relatable, and more than their job.
So what is the point you're making? Are you _really_ saying the situations and comedy of Father Ted 'works' if they are 'just guys' and not priests? Or something else?
