- Recently, I purchased an ATV. I have mixed feelings about it because I have never been an ATV owner for many reasons. What each of us needs to be comfortable and happy as a nomad is always different. I found that my greatest happiness as a nomad is being able to get into the backcountry and explore.

"Tell me if you think I'm wrong." Oh my heavens, how could anyone feel that way. I'm 86 years old, have camped a lot but never got to be a nomad due to family needs. You have allowed me to live vicariously the life I dreamed of. Thankfully, as said, I did get to do a lot of travels and camping. You have been and continue to be an inspiration. I live an hour from Yuma, AZ, on the California side, so I get to camp either in the desert, or the mountains by San Diego (2 hours away), Borrego Springs (1 hour away), or San Bernadino (3 hours away). I'm literally in the middle of it all, but I don't take advantage like I could. You will love traveling across the country! 🤗
So in love with the first quote: "You don't have to be miserable to be a nomad". All who wander are not lost; that may be their preference. That said, if I catch you spinning donuts in the back country, I'll understand and mind my own beeswax. Happy Trails, Bob!

So sad that so many of us grew up thinking we HAD to follow what society said we must do & BE ! I allowed others to discourage my dreams ! Not realizing those others would have finally gotten over being upset with me when they realized they couldn't control / manipulate me any more !! Now in my "Golden years" I'm scrambling to recapture my PEACE.

Congratulations Bob I'm very happy for you I too was an avid backpacker and also have the need to be way out In the middle of nowhere for peace and Serenity. when I when I was nearing the age of 60 I fell off a roof and broke just about everything in my hips tail bone et cetera but my recovery which took 6 months was amazing and miraculous but the one thing that I cannot do is carry a heavy backpack I remember when I bought my 1st snowmobile And my friends were quite astonished because I had hated them for so long Because of the noise and some human behaviors which were intolerable to me but it gave me so much freedom and joy to get out into the wilderness in the Winter time And that freedom and that need to be one with nature without the human element is such a need I think we both have. I now live and travel out of Arizona so no need for a snowmobile anymore smile My Van is all wheel drive and I do get out as far as I can too a much needed happy place. I'm glad you are continuing to grow and finding your happy place best wishes!

I'm doing the same I bought an old beater dirt bike fixer upper so I can get to the those spots also, getting older 😅 can see my self hiking 10mi. each way much any more, but I can still get thier and enjoy nature... glad I'm doing the same & you don't have to apologize anything ! Peace ☮
Looking forward to seeing those new videos of places we most likely won't be seeing in person. Since you don't boondock on public streets, etc the trailer with the ATV works perfectly with the lifestyle you are living. We all have the right to live life the way we want (as long as it doesn't negatively effect others.) Enjoy your new toy and be safe. (Get one of those satellite radios incase of an emergency in the remote wilderness.)

For one, I think it's important that as we get older we do what we have to do to keep enjoying our lives. I went from a tent to a van/ teardrop. Second, it's your life, your time on this earth, do what you want as long as it doesn't harm others. Be kind. And yeah, don't be an asshole.😅 As for what others think.... really who cares, that's their problem not yours. Enjoy your life in your way❣️

That’s an incredible story Bob. I live in Central Maine but have a camp in northern Maine. I love to UTV. My best friend and I go camping with ours as much as possible. There are all kinds of free camping places along lakes and ponds in our area. It is such an awesome time I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I am one of the respectful UTVers.

Bob you’re a national treasure. Do what you need to do. To have the ability to use a machine like this to get you where you need to be. How wonderful. What a time to be alive. I had to ‘graduate’ from an ATV to a UTV with a steering wheel due to a shoulder injury. Do what you need for you.
I absolutely agree with what you are wanting to do. I reluctantly purchased a UTV a few years ago and after I added a few accessories to enhance the experience, it has become a very pleasurable hobby. Hopefully I still have at least 10 years remaining, maybe not, but yes, we do deserve to enjoy what time remains. Drive safe!
I love this video, Bob. I appreciate your candidness. I am 50 yrs old and finally taking a leap of faith and doing what I've always wanted to do. That is living an unconventional life while traveling. Gig to work a seasonal job at Lake Powell, AZ this summer. I realize that trying to start my life in my 60s after retiring (if I could even afford to retire) is ridiculous. I already have less energy now than I did in my 30s or 40s. Then I have a couple of friends in their 40s with medical issues (one is likely terminal). I don't want to wait any longer. And you have reassured me that the time is now when you state that at 66, you are ready to do less. Thank you for the inspiration.

I don't see how anyone can say you are "in it for the money" Bob. Someone like you who makes a great deal of money but still lives in a frugal way is the real deal in my opinion. Hi Bob. I've been viewing your vlogs for the past year, seeing what a wonderful life you are living, and helping others to achieve a similar lifestyle.
I have been living on my Narrowboat for past 4 years on the English inland waterways (mostly canals). The first 2 years marina based, then as a Continuous Cruiser, and loving the lifestyle, the freedom, the choice to move on whenever I please. This was my retirement plan, and researched the lifestyle over a six year period before signing the contract for my own boat build.
Next time I visit my brother in Arizona I will seek you out.

I'm in the same boat. Used to be an avid hiker but can't do it in my old age. My old man's wheel chair is very quiet, almost like hiking. My preference is a quad over a side by side because I'm out in the open rather than inside a box looking through a windshield.

What a great story, I love it. Glad to hear you’re not going to be an asshole. It’s not the machine it’s the people. I love what you’re doing and yes I ride motorcycles three wheelers and quads, have not yet gone to a side-by-side, but as I get older, who knows.
Fabulous! I hope you plan on taking great videos of the back country for the rest of us 🙏. Your video also touched on a big concern for me and that is getting to the back country. When you have a larger Class ABC or travel trailer, you limit your access to the backcountry. Your UTV will help you get there! As for me, I upgraded my vehicle from a small car to a 4x4 truck and still plan to use a tent for the next few years, then I have the truck to tow a trailer if I want. Bob you are passionate about helping people. It seems that God has made sure you have plenty to meet your own needs. It's how He works! ❤❤
Cody will love it! When I had on the advice they gave to me was to have a spare wheel and tire along. If the front is smaller than the rear have a spare front wheel and tire because it will fit on the rear in an emergency. Have fun with your UTV you deserve it Bob.
Nah. Get a tire repair kit and a little air compressor.
@@darrellwampler3882 actually quite true. I never had the money for the recommended spare wheel. Thankfully never needed it. I did always carry a portable compressor.
If you carry spare tires don't forget a jack and wrench. Or a tire repair kit and air compressor.
Actually the opposite is true. The spare tire needs to be the size of the rear because if you put a smaller tire on the rear you can burn up the rear end Differential.Depending on the unit. I am a mechanic at UTV Dealership in Central Florida. Most of the riding is done in swamp/muddy conditions. So I'm talking from 15Years Experience. Carrying a air compressor & tire plug kit is essential. And a spare tire is the backup. Remember 1 is none. And 2 is 1 ! Redundancy systems !Good vibes 👣
